I was driving out of the driveway and onto a somewhat busy street. As I attempted to accelerate, I noticed I could not go any faster than about 10 mph despite being in a zone of approximately 35 mph. After traveling less than a mile at this speed, I turned around and return the car to the driveway. I then proceeded to have it towed to a repair shop, who reported this was a transmission issue. This repair shop asked for our permission to tow the vehicle to another shop who specializes in transmission issues. We agreed then later received word that the transmission was "shot" and the cost to repair would be in the area of approximately $4,500. When I looked up the value of the car on line, it was showing it's running value of approximately the same amount. The transmission repair shop stated that they were told by a local Ford dealer that the models of 2005 through 2007 Ford Freestyle's cvt type of transmission was the cause of the problem. They were also told that Ford didn't have sufficient inventory of parts to repair the transmission, and by the way there was no recall notice out on them since parts weren't available. I am now stuck with a car that will not run, nor can I sell or trade in as it has little to no value at this time. Ford needs to step up and take responsibility for this faulty designed cvt transmission's.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. When shifting gears or depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle jolted. Additionally, the air conditioning unit would only circulate while driving. While at a stop, the air conditioning would not release cold air. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that there may have been a transmission malfunction and a defect within the air lines, which potentially caused the air conditioning to malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.

So I used to have problems with the RPM surge in my car then a customer satisfaction program (csp) came out and I had the throttle body deposits cleaned as per the csp12N03 in April of 2013. I have not had any issues until July 2014. Major issue- I was on the interstate on July 27th and my car began decelerating really quickly. The wrench light came on during this deceleration and I had to come to a stop in the V where cars are merging onto the interstate. I had to stop because my car slowed so drastically that I would have not made it to the shoulder of the road and would have gotten hit by another motorist. When I came to a stop my car was actually still running, I manually turned the car off. After I sat for a moment, I decided I would see if my car would crank. The car cranked and died and finally stayed cranked, I decided to try to move the car. The wrench light was no longer on and the car did exactly what a normal car would do. I was able to get up to speed and exit and drive the rest of the way home. I took it for diagnostics, the Ford dealership where I live say that it is the throttle body (the part that had a csp on it). I do not feel that I should have to pay 1000 dollars or more to have a faulty part replaced. Obviously something is wrong with this otherwise Ford would not have had the part cleaned. I would like for Ford to replace the part on my car and anyone else's vehicles that is having the throttle issues. Even though after some of the parts have been replaced, the issue starts again. I noticed that some of the investigations into Ford throttle issues include years 2009 and newer for that limp mode thing, however, my car is a 2007 and totally did the decelerating on the interstate. It was very frightening and I would like this issue to become a recall for a replacement. I called Ford and filed a complaint today, 9/15/2014.

Started making noise like a helicopter. Then it wouldn't change out of gear. It is showing the wrench and the engine light on. Will not shift to different gears at all. I have 4 grandchildren that live with me and that rely on me to get them to dr appts, school, and other places. I also have a pregnant daughter that has had to rely on other people to get to her drs appts. I am very disappointed in the quality of this car. I would not recommend this care to anyone else.

When the car is running during warm weather it lurches forward while driving forward or backwards when in reverse. I have to keep my foot close to the brake to keep from hitting anyone or another car. The car often stalls when this happens. Ford did a recall on my vehicle and had the throttle cleaned for free. However that did absolutely nothing and the problem continues. I called customer service and was told they would not do anything about it.

I had bought a Freestyle in 2012, the vehicle started make a noise from the transmission. Had it checked out to were I was told it needed to be flushed. After the service the trans was alright for about another month and started again while on the highway.. the trans then proceeded to make a terrible noise and then started to sound like a helicopter and lost the drive gear. This transmission is not safe to be in a vehicle, also has been said by many employees that it is unsafe. I hope this can get looked into again and be taken care of!

I was driving through a very busy intersection and heard a thump. My 2007 Ford Freestyle stopped in its tracks and would not move. I just about caused a major accident. One of the vehicles behind me ran over a sidewalk to avoid this. Luckily no one was walking. I had some people push me to the side of the road and had it towed to dealer. There they let me know my cvt transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $6500. There was no warning it was about to break, no noises or funny things happened just died.

The car is lunging when I initially put it in reverse and when put in drive, it usually happens when I have driven it for a while and mostly happens when it is hot outside. While sitting parked with the engine running for a few minutes, I put it in drive, the engine revved and it literally lunged forward about 5 ft., I pressed the brake and it died. It took a few minutes to restart it. I did take it to the dealer in 2009 and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. In may of 2010, I took it to the dealer again and they repaired a harness they said may have been chaffed and possibly grounding out at the right side of firewall but also stated that it may still have problems and they were right. Last year, the lunging started again but not a lot and now, the problem has resurfaced once again. I have researched and have found numerous other Freestyle owners with the same problems. I am concerned that I might hit another car when in a parking lot or reverse into something or someone. It is hard to believe that Ford has not put a recall on whatever is wrong with the vehicle.

Started to experience engine surge problem that is apparently pretty common. Mostly occurs when accelerating from stopped position. Also check engine light came on. Checked code at Napa store. P0109 indicating fuel rail pressure sensor. Local mechanic claimed it to be a fuel filter problem. Had mechanic change filter, problem resolved for very short time period. About month later same problem and engine code. Replaced fuel sensor myself. Problem returned 2 days later without engine code. From my research on this site and others found out about customer satisfaction program 12N03. Called local dealer to look into having vehicle checked. Was informed by service operator that my VIN does not qualify but they would let me pay $150 dollars to check out problem. I am thinking I will exercise my free will to get rid of this vehicle for a Kia or Hyundai model that I can trust.

I have had my 2007 Ford Freestyle since 2008. This car has been a money pit. I have had to get a water pump, ac compressor, and throttle body, now it needs an expensive faulty transmission replaced called cvt transmission. The car is now parked for safety and to avoid further damage. The issue that I have experienced is while my foot completely on the break, the car has darted forward with out my ability to stop it. I have had this happen with people walking in front of me in the cross walk while at the stop light and my car has darted at them. Scary!! to say the least. I would not be surprised if anyone else has hit someone due to this problem. I don't drive the car anymore because it shut off on me while in traffic, unexpectedly, gratefully the person behind me was paying attention. I have fixed the ac compressor, throttle body, and water pump, I cannot possibly replace the transmission, I have 3 children and now without a car. I would not feel safe even after it is fixed. From reading other complaints this car is made faulty, and is going to fell me in some other expensive or dangerous way. To my knowledge Ford has discontinued making the Freestyle and is now making Taurus in its place. They should have recalled every single Ford Freestyle, this car is dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!! it has been made to fail, I hope Ford can restore my trust in them. I do not want any other Ford because of this.

This has happened almost everyday, if you stop for a short time either long light or pull in some where and take off the wrench comes on and at that point I know the car will not go over 54 miles per hour and acts like it won't up shift out of second gear even though I know its a cvt, this is very frustrating and dangerous, Ford will not do anything about it, until enough people die or get severely injured, I must be lucky though mine happens all the time I know if I shut the free style off and re start it goes back to normal for a while... people need to petition Ford.... or start a mass lawsuit against what should be a massive re-call, why is the government not jumping in to force action, like they are now doing with GM..... a 35K car should be built safer, to worried about everyone wearing seatbelts, but not about vehicles that lunge forward or just can't accelerate, the transmission is junk and we pay for it.

Stopped at signal light, wrench light and engine light illuminated. When attempted to accelerate, vehicle RPM's moved erratically and vehicle would not drive above 35mph. Had vehicle towed to transmission shop and was told vehicle went into "fail safe mode" transmission is none repairable and needs to be replaced. Previously had car serviced under recall with throttle. One day prior, the car "surged/lunged" when put in reverse. Had recall done 12 months ago and just went over 12000 miles since work done.

When car is running there is noise coming from transmission, (has been verify by a Ford dealership) that it needs a transmission. It has been getting louder and our ext warranty has expired according to dealer. Cost of repairs is $6000 to $8000. This seems to be and issue with this vehicle, but Ford Motor Company said they haven't heard of this, Ford also said we shouldn't drive it, but we have no choice. Car only has 64'000 miles.
