This is my parents 2007 Ford Freestyle as the subject of my complaint. My Mom should consider herself lucky that your throttle body malfunctioned in the parking lot as she was leaving work and not on the highway on her way Home. Your gross neglect of your customers safety is repulsive. I have her car until I fix it, upon very minimal research into her vehicles problems I was pointed towards the throttle body as the problem. This was a very easy diagnosis to come by as you have created many cheated customers who've thankfully taken their displeasure to the internet to point people like myself in the right direction. The throttle body malfunction was confirmed when I pulled up the vehicles code today. It is not the original throttle body, my Dad thinks it was replaced due to some sort of recall about 5 years ago (he plans to confirm this work with the dealership tomarrow). What the hell is wrong with your materials that in less than 50,000 miles yet ANOTHER throttle body malfunctions. Is anybody worried about this? I had previously made up my mind that I will never drive a ford vehicle off the lot however, my parents have purchased 4 Ford vehicles in my life time. If this problem isn't handled with extreme gratitude towards MY parents, YOUR customers, I will use my good standing in our family as a keystone in the persuasion of any and all family and friends to reconsider buying a cheaply made product by FORD. If I am successful the amount of money potentially diverted from your company is very minute in your business model, but for me, my three children, and any family or friend that I do persuade will be worth my efforts if just know that none of us are funneling money to greedy, immature, unethical minds that drive your corporation. When the people finally decide that accountability in "big business" has purposely been neglected for profit I hope you all have good hiding places.

THE PROBLEMS STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AGO(GIVE OR TAKE). WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED OR CONDITION THE ENGINE SEEMED TO HESITATE(SURGE) AS IF THE CAR WAS UNPLUGGED FOR A SPLIT SECOND AND THEN PLUGGED BACK IN. THE ENGINE THEN SEEMED TO HAVE TO RESET BEFORE FINDING IT'S DRIVE MODE. THE RPM(TACT)DID NOT FLUCTUATE OR SHOW TYPICAL TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THERE ALSO SEEMED TO BE A LITTLE JERK FORWARD/BACKWARD. THE A/C OUTPUT ALSO FLUCTUATED(SURGED). THERE ARE 2 AMBER LED LIGHTS. 1 FOR IN-CAB CIRCULATION AND ONE FOR A/C. THOSE AMBER LIGHT WOULD BLINK SIMULTANEOUSLY.

Tired of not being able to drive on the highway at normal speed limits without the vehicle losing speed down to 40-45mph. I have to pull over to side of roadway and shut vehicle off, wait for 10 minutes, then car runs like nothing has ever been wrong with it for another 5-6 miles before happening again. The wrench light comes on the dash and when I looked in book on vehicle it talked about the throttle having these issues when this light comes on.
This is the only vehicle I own. I love it. Its easy to drive and roomy. I don't want to give this vehicle up its the best one that I've ever had just tired of not being able to drive on highway in town I have no trouble with it just when its going at great speed that I do. The car is in great shape and I keep it well maintained with up to date oil changes, tires rotated, belts change, etc. and, I don't run this vehicle hard at all. I'm on disability and can't afford high maintenance bills cause I don't draw that much.
I feel the Ford Company should be liable for these problems on these vehicles if they knew they would happen at a certain mileage on this vehicle its not right for the consumer to pay for their mistakes. I love Ford Products my Dad was a Ford man that's why I went to Ford myself. I like to travel but haven't been able to do any since this problem has developed with this vehicle and that's a real shame on the Ford Company for allowing this to happen to people who spend their hard earned money to buy these vehicles thinking they were getting a great vehicle.

I have taken my 2007 Ford Freestyle to two separate dealers for surging. The car will surge urge to almost 2000 rpms and then die back to around 500 rpms and struggle to run. It will repeat this until the car is shut off and restarted. In the 4 years of ownership this has happened at least a dozen times as recently as last Friday. My wife refuses to drive the vehicle as it will do this at intersections and she does not trust the car to be able to accelerate when needed. I thought I was the only one having these issues according to the dealer service department.

2007 Freestyle would surge at low rpm, When backing up, had it surge and almost hit a car, even pulling out of a parking spot it would all of a sudden surge and I almost hit a person. Drove it to the repair, Canadian Tire, and the computer would limit the rpm, so could not go past 80 kph.
They did a tune up and $1000 later, still had the issue. Turned to the internet. The consensus was that the throttle body valve was sticking. Cleaned it with throttle body cleaner and never had the problem since.

I was stopped for a traffic light when the vehicle surged forward about 1-2 feet. The "wrench" light then came on. I took the vehicle to the dealership and was told the electronic throttle control assembly module needed to be replaced at a cost of about $750. The part was ordered in late July and it is now October 15 and it has not yet arrived. I was told there is a nationwide shortage of the part. I also see that many other people are having the same problems with their Freestyles. The part is not covered under warranty, of course. The problem has not happened again. The day it happened it was very hot and the a/c was on.

Went to dealer didnt find a problem. just continues to get worst. Stop on brake release and my car lunges forward. Went back to dealer now they say they can fix for 900 dollars. I believe Ford needs to take care of this problem. Now it lunges forward and cuts off. Will it take a death for Ford to listen?

My 2007 Ford Freestyle is suging forward and stalling in traffic. This is a major safety issue it will surge forward in parking lots with pedestrians walking around. The car has surged forward and stalled in traffic with my children in the car. I am told that it will cost over $700 to fix the Throttle Body. Ford should step up and recall this error...This is a safety issue and a defective part. STEP UP FORD and replace our faith in your cars

when put in reverse - car surged backwards - about hit a child - when put in forward gear = car surged - jerked - had no rpms. at time of purchase i drilled the sales manager about the transmission and stated that I did not want the same problems as experienced with my Windstar. Was told different type of transmission, update - not gear driven - solved the problems = LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR at Fort Mill Ford in Fort Mill, SC.
FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL AND REPLACE THE THROTTLES OR ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED. THAN I WILL YELL LAWSUIT, LAWSUIT - FORD NEEDS TO GET OBAMA OUT OF THEIR REAR AND SOLVE THIS ISSUE. WHY ARE OTHER MANUFACTURES FORCED TO DO A RECALL BUT FORD/OBAMA IS NOT.

Took to the dealership who could not find anything wrong, complaint persisted for the next couple of months and then subsided

WOW! I loved my ford freestyle when we first bought it. It was spacious and not as big as most SUV's. A couple of times I had problems with the car accelerating while driving AND while I was on the brake. When I turn the car off, the lights would go off and the car seemed okay again. I am a mother of a 3 year old and I am currently 6 months pregnant with our second child. Therefore, when the incident happened again today I cannot tell you how worried I have become. Apparently Ford knows about this problem and hasn't recalled the car!!!! What if I run into another car...or worse, hit someone? I'm responsible..not Ford!!! That is complete bull!!!! Ford really needs to fix this problem!!!!!

I took my Freestyle into the dealer today to have it looked at because it was lurching and not getting enough power. It was diagnosed with guess what...BAD THROTTLE BODY...and the mechanic had the nerve to suggest that it only happens to cars that aren't maintained properly by the owners. I explained that mine is well maintained and I have records to show for it, then he gave me the wonderful news that it would only cost me $1,188.93 to fix. He acted like it was a real rarity for this to happen and that I was getting a huge deal. He even charged me $99 for the privilege of diagnosing the problem. When I refused to hand over the funds right away, he came back to me and warned me that I needed to get it done soon or "the engine could seize" if I continued driving. Unbelievable. He made sure to remind me that it's really not safe to drive, but he also said that the issue was my lack of care of the vehicle and nothing to do with Ford. I gotta say, I'm really disappointed in both my car, and the mechanic.
When I got home from the dealer, I got another call suggesting that they may be able to reduce the repair charge by maybe 10%, and then another warning not to drive it.
When I googled the word Freestyle I see that I'm not the only person in the world to have this issue. There's been a LOT of complaints about need to get a brand new throttle body with less than 50K miles on the vehicle, and YES, OBVIOUSLY this is a huge safety concern.
By the way, I'm a single woman and my car has only 47K on it. I'm feeling pretty confident that the increased cost was associated with my gender...So, what others were told would cost them about $700 or so, I was informed would be almost $1,200 - guess it's more expensive to fix the problem when a woman is the primary driver!!!
Thankfully, I have recruited a guy to help me navigate these waters, but I want to warn others. BE CAREFUL WITH FORD FREESTYLES and the be especially careful if you're a single woman who the mechanics hope to separate from your money. Ask for info, bring a friend who knows cars, etc. Hopefully the dealership will actually do the right thing tomorrow when I call them and let them know that I'm on to the ruse.
Update from Mar 30, 2015: 2015 - Finally, this is getting some attention. I have been so worried about Ford drivers, so I'm glad this is finally going to get some review, and people will be compensated for the problems. If you need to reach me, I have changed my last name to McCaffrey, and my phone number is 919 868 4310.

When I put my car in drive or reverse it revs to high RPMs and lurches forward/backwards. Getting pretty annoying, I have to constantly have my foot on the brake and wait for RPMs to drop to normal before releasing the break petal. I bought this car with intentions of having a bigger vehicle to haul my family around. Bad decision on my part.
