I've replaced the door handles and they are broken again. This makes it sometime impossible to lock and unlock the door. The door handles need to be recalled. This is dangerous.

Fusion SEL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 148,000 miles

I was driving down the road with my son in the car and the rear passenger door flew open, luckily he was able to reach it and hold it closed. The door will not close and the handle is broken. My interior light stays on since I cannot close the door. I am frustrated that there is no recall on this since I have read numerous reports on it breaking. This could have killed someone if they were leaning on the door, or caused an accident if a car was next to me.

Fusion SE 2.2L

I had to replace the driver's door handle again, it is made of plastic. You would think as much as the car sells for it would be made better.

Fusion SES 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 96,000 miles

I put my car in park and the doors automatically unlock when this is done. As car was put in park i tried opening the door at the same time and the interior door handle snapped off. This was not a major problem except having to roll down my window to exit the vehicle until the new part arrived. New part from Ford was approx:$40 and took about 20 min to install.

Fusion SE V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,000 miles

went to open the door and the handle made a "clonk" noise. a piece of the 'chrome' shot across the interior of the car, the handle wonked sideways, and the door lock button cocked out funny. the door still opens and closes, but won't lock.

carried it by the dealership at lunch, and was told the fix would be between $200 and $250, and was also told "this happens all the time" and "we have to fix a lot of these", but was told there's not a recall or any factory recuse for customers on this issue.

seems to me if it's a known issue, Ford ought to be offering a fix. And, i think my dealership is overquoting the price, as i've found the replacement part listed online for $40.

Fairly unhappy Ford owner today.

Fusion SEL V6

mechanism inside rear door jammed or broke and dealer says it is the "door handle" not covered under my PremiumCare Ford extended warrantee. What a pain! Now can only open that door from the outside.

Fusion SE 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

The chrome covering on the handle started to crack about three months ago, then it gradually got worse until the door now is very difficult to open and lock.

Update from Jan 26, 2011: The chrome covering on the handle started cracking 3 months ago and eventually the handle broke and became difficult to open or lock the door

Fusion

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,000 miles

I parked at my apartment complex and when i tried to open the driver side door nothing happened. I used no excessive force when i attempted to open the door. The problem only exists on the inside because the door can be opened from the outside. Also the door handle that is advertised as chrome is a complete joke and is so poorly made you will question why ford fusion got such good reviews.

problem #4

Jun 012010

Fusion SE 2.3L I4

  • Manual transmission
  • 70,000 miles

This is my wife's car and she does not open the doors with excessive force. There is no reason why this should have happened to a 2006 model. I have two other vehicles both 1999 models with 200K miles on them. They are both in perfect working condition!!! This problem is obviously just a piss poor design.

I have to open the doors from the outside. The door handles broke 1 by 1 without us using any excessive force to open the doors. The doors seemed to stick shut prior to the day the door handles broke.
