I bought my car in 2008. The car has less than 50K miles on it. I've had trouble with the auto keyless entry since I purchased the car. I lock the car, unlock it, get in to start it and the engine won't turn over. My husband and I figured out if we keep hitting the unlock button about 10-12 times, it will finally kick off the security glich and we can drive away. I've avoided locking my car for this very reason, since I've had it. I should've had it into Ford years ago to have this looked at, but that's just a big PIA, and I hate dealing with these larger service centers. Last week, my husband used the car in the morning, it was fine... he wanted to run out later in the day, got in the car and it wouldn't start at all. Same problem, but this time, the car hadn't been locked, and nothing out of the ordinary had occured. I called the manufacturer to trouble-shoot, looked online for possible solutions, my husband had a few of his mechanic friends look at it, nothing worked. I called the service center to see if they had anything to say, and also to get an estimate. They could not tell me anything, and said I needed to bring it in, & they charge $90 an hour. I told the lady I spoke with that was absurd, as all they have to do is plug it into their computer system and should have some idea within minutes. She said that isn't the case, that they would need a specialist to look at it. Had to have the car towed into the dealership, which cost $81 just for the tow. The dealer had it all day to tell me they didn't know what was wrong with it. The next morning, they figured out the "instrument cluster" went bad, and would need to be replaced, and it would be a total of $700, and at LEAST another week. The specialist was just imaginary, I guess. Also, I told them I did not want the security system, and to just remove it and they said they cannot do that, it is all built into the car. My sister had a similar problem with her Focus years ago. Her boyfriend at the time stuck the wrong key in the ignition when he went to move her car, and it locked up the security system. The car thought it was being stolen, and she had to have it towed and pay around the same amount also. To me, this is a system/electrical glich and this should not be happening. (apparently a lot of people are having similar if not the same issue) I don't feel that I should have to pay for this, warrenty or not. This is a system failure, nothing that I did would have caused this. Also, replacing the whole instrument cluster for one wiring issues is also a total smack in the face. There should be some kind of recall. In my opinion this so called, high-tech security system, is a big scam and a way to make extra money off of people. Totally bogus, and B.S. ...I will NEVER own another Ford.
