electronic throttle body malfunction

Driving home at 1:00 am along I-76 when, on cruise control at 70mph when the car suddenly loses the ability to accelerate. This has happened before but after tapping the gas a few times, it would rectify itself. This time, nothing. There was a semi flying up the road behind us and we had to glide across the highway to get to the shoulder and pray that we wouldn't get smashed into (that semi was coming up on us pretty fast). We were able to limp over to the shoulder and turn off the car. Waited a few minutes and everything powered back on. Got home ok but the next day, the car wouldn't go past 40mph.

Took it into the mechanic who identified the issue and replaced the malfunctioning board, for a lot of money. Tried to get support from Ford and was told that my vehicle wasn't covered under the 'customer satisfaction program' so they couldn't help me, but I was welcome to retain the receipt and if a recall was ever posted for the part and/or vehicle, I could submit that receipt for a possible refund. Frankly, I'd prefer a vehicle that wasn't trying to kill me or a company that actually cared about the product they release but hey, what can you do, right?
