Braking is soft. Must push brake pedal near to the floor to stop. After pumping the brakes, they tighten up. This started after I braked suddenly going over a speed bump at about 25 miles per hour. Mechanic says the problem is probably the ABS hydraulic unit. I saw several youtube videos that match my problem with my vehicle.

I was driving in the city down a residential road and had to switch into the turn lane, which had tons of cars in line. So I started to push down on my brake, which never had to be pushed down very far to activate. I had to push the pedal all the way to the floor just to get any reaction. I swerved out of that lane as I was nearing an accident with the next car in the turn lane. Luckily there were no cars in the lane I swerved back into. I thought I had lost my brakes. The next day they were still just as bad so I had to take my car in to a Ford service center to get it looked it as I wanted my brakes back. They had said it was the hydraulic converter unit and it would cost a pretty penny. Since every car needs brakes, I had to pay the price(over $1,500). The employees there had told me this car had been having these issues and may be getting a recall for this specific issue. I see there have been over 140 complaints of this exact problem so I'd like to add my instance to that total. I'm lucky I wasn't in an accident as it was very close. It would be nice if the investigation would conclude since there's so many instances with this same occurrence and people could get there money back for whatever repairs they had to pay for.

I was coming to a stop from a normal speed of about 30 miles per hour when my break pedal went straight to the floor. I had to swerve into the next lane to keep from running into the back of the car in front of me. I had to pump the breaks several times to come to a stop. I took my car to my mechanic and he replaced the break mastercylinder but that did not fix the problem. He did some research and concluded that the ABS module is faulty and needs to be taken to the dealer for further repair. I can currently stop my car while driving but my break pedal has to be pushed nearly to the floor and I have to break from a significantly further distance.

Came to a stop at a stop light and brakes feel soft and spongy. After the car stopped the car started going forward while the same amount of pressure was being applied to the brake pedal. Had to apply more pressure to get the car to stop moving. Sometimes when the brakes are applied now it feels like they are going to the floor and I have to use more than normal force to get them to stop the car in time. No leaks found and fluid levels look good.

While driving on an icy street I had an ABS event where the ABS engaged but then immediately thereafter the brake pedal felt very soft as if there was little or no brake. I pulled to the side of the road and after pumping the brakes to test them the pedal never regained its prior feel. I was able to get the car home and then tested it again the next day. At first the brakes seemed back to normal but after pressing them hard enough for the ABS to engage it again loss pedal and felt soft. No accident occurred as a result but we have not driven the car since

I bought my car in 2011 and in 2014 I started having issue with my brakes giving out when I would brake and hit bumps in the road. I would have slam the pedal to the floor to get any reaction out of my brakes or pump my brakes. I took my car in to the dealership to have the brakes looked at. The agreed that the brakes were not reacting as they should. They informed me that my calipers needed replaced. I asked how common that was and they said it was rare to have to replace calipers. I got online and read consumer reviews and realized this was common in my make/model/year of car. I spend over $1,000 to have the calipers replaced and to pay for a rental car while the work was being done. Since then I have adjusted my driving style so as not to trigger my brakes giving out. However, this winter I hit a bump while braking so as not to hit the car in front of me and my brakes gave out again. I was able to get the car stopped by pushing the pedal to the floor, but those extra seconds to get the car stopped and my panic when the car wouldn't brake was terrifying. It's weird because then after a few days it was like my brakes came back to normal, but it was about a week of being very careful with my brakes before they returned to normal. Date & information of incident given is the date & information from the first time this happened in 2014, not the date & information from this year (Jan 21, 2017) when it happened again.

The anti lock breaking system does not work correctly. When there is a snow covered road and no traction the brakes engage and you can feel the anti lock engage however they then have a soft pedal from that point forward.. the anti lock system does not go back to working correctly.

Son was driving car (it was raining) and attempted to stop -- the pedal went almost to the floor before brakes took hold. This issue did not happen again until a few weeks later. The brake pedal again went almost to the floor before vehicle stopped. Now the brake pedal has to be depressed way over half way before brakes are applied. Took it to a shop and brakes were checked out and bled -- shop indicated there was an issue with the ABS. I feel as if this is a safety defect that needs to be addressed by Ford as it appears this car is not the only one to have this issue.

Brake pedal travels too far before engaging. Gets worse after ABS has been used. This is an ongoing problem and Ford cant come up with a reasonable answer. This has happened on many occasions from sitting at a dead stop to highway speeds. If you pump the brakes a few times they stiffen up but then get spongy after ABS is forced to kick in.

For around 8 months, often while braking my brake pedal will lose pressure and go almost to the floor. It doesn't lose all pressure but makes for a difficult stop. This has caused me several times to almost rear end other cars and not be able to slow down enough while taking corners. It happens in motion highway and city. More so on bumpy roads or harder braking. My mechanic, which is at a Ford dealer checks everything out for me every oil change. He states that there are no leaks and the master cylinder if functioning properly. I believe it was the hydraulic control unit that he suggested could be the issue. There are numerous complaints online about similar year cars having the same issue. I consider this a serious safety issue, I believe the reason I haven't had an accident is that I'm used to the issue now, but I believe it's a matter of time before an accident happens.

While making a moving left turn that had a dip in the road, while braking for the turn, the brake pedal went to almost floor on all subsequent braking. This had happened before temporarily after going over a bump while braking. At this time the car will stop with brake almost all the way down, but doesn't feel safe at all.being I've heard through the news & complaints that this may be a common occurrence and is being investigated, I felt I should also register a complaint so hopefully there will be a recall before someone gets injured.

Several near miss accidents occurred with my 2008 Ford Fusion, after my brake pedal went "soft", the car took longer to stop in most driving conditions, particularly slippery, snowy, roads. The brake would require to be pushed nearly all the way to the floor to successfully stop. The brakes would require this no matter what speed I was traveling it, particularly very dangerous on highways. The brakes being in this condition led me to not use the car on highways or in slick conditions. As a result of these brakes, I had to have my car serviced and have the ABS pump & master cylinder replaced, leading to $1,700 repair. My local mechanic mentioned that Ford has seen this occur on numerous occasions in Fusion, yet has not put a recall out. As a driver with two small children, I was unable to use my Fusion for 3-6 months during any slick road conditions due to the bad brakes. I had numerous near miss accidents occur. I would like for Ford to be investigated on this part and be refunded for my cost of repair if it is recalled.

First event, upon approaching a city stoplight & braking, the 2008 Ford Fusion skidded on a manhole cover, vibrated, shuddered & suddenly brakes went soft & I had to press all the way to the floor to stop. Car took a long time & distance to stop, & approx. 15 minutes to recover normal braking capability. Problem has occurred when brake is engaged & travelling over rough pavement as well as manhole covers - with additional time now required to recover brakes. These sudden anti-lock braking episodes occur on city streets while coming to a stop so no excessive speed involved. Episodes increasing in frequency over past year. Mechanics dismissed issue after checking brakes a couple times & finding no problem. Of course, anti-lock episodes are intermittent & never happen when mechanics are at the wheel! although our only vehicle, car is garaged until replacement parts arrive as unwilling to risk attempting to brake in winter road conditions. Dangerous issue although thankfully no accidents to report.
