My door handle broke, same as all of the other ones here. The solution was to take the door panel off and replace it, which is quite simple to do if you have some know-how. YouTube was definitely my friend here.

This is the aftermarket door handle I ordered. Works great.

This is the video I watched with the steps. A few Torx screws and one 9/16" bolt.

Handles have broken multiple times. The most recent, the handle literally broke off in my hand. I have to open the door by rolling my window down and opening it from the outside handle. The RF handle doesn't lock automatically, and hasn't for years. I have to lean over and lock it by hand.

I was told by the technician at the parts department of the dealer that this is a common problem. He also said that my replacement part comes with a warranty, and to keep the box/papwerwork, as I'll probably need to replace it again before the warranty is up. Luckily I have not had to replace this part again. In the mechanism, there is a plasic part making contact with a metal part, which causes the plastic part to break. Ford should've recalled this "known" failure.

The handle portion of the latch is made from plastic. The failure was bound to happen given the design of the handle. This piece has no business being made from plastic and most assuredly needs to be made with metal. Who knows how many times the latch is going to break during the lifetime of the vehicle.

This is a dumb problem that really could be easily fixed if they made this out of a thin metal piece or out of something stronger then the cheap injected modeled plastic.

Fusion SE 2.3L L4

We purchased the car pre-owned, so we knew we would have some issues to deal with more so than a brand new vehicle..

The car was low mileage and overall had good reliability reviews, but when this little plastic stuff breaks so early it is aggravating. And the way ours broke was a little piece chipped off the handle so it would not release all the way, thereby the door would not lock with the remote. We were, however, still able to open the door from the inside.

Fortunately I used to be an auto-mechanic so this was a no big deal for me to fix. It was cheaper to buy the part from Ford than go through the warranty deductible, but the warranty doesn't cover it anyway.

This just happened, no issues prior with driver side handle (had passenger handle break before). Just went to get out of my car but door wouldn't open, feels like handle isn't catching. Very annoying and I really think this could be a huge safety issue! After doing a web search on how to fix this, I have learned that this seems to be a common problem with MANY Ford Fusion owners, come on FORD!!

REALLY!? The door handle broke!? I thought the new cars were better than the old ones! I have driven many cars and never had an issue with a door handle before. I have to roll down the power window to open the door from the outside and it will not lock! WHAT THE HELL?! Definitely a huge safety issue! Come on Ford, let's take care of our customers!

Cheap plastic handles. Just like anything else, not made to last. I am sure somewhere down the road I will have to replace handle again. My sister has a 2010 Fusion and her handle broke 4 months ago. She has 35000 miles on hers.

THE CHEAP "PLASTIC" GEAR ON THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE SNAPPED OFF AND I HAD TO OPEN MY DOOR BY ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPENING IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. Contacted Ford Motor Corp. and they were unwilling to fix the door handle problem due to the car having 55000 miles and not under warranty. How disappointing. Now I have to put out $180.00 to fix a problem they already knew was wrong with the car.

I'm just really disappointed. That is a pretty major thing to have go wrong with a car that is only 4 years old. I can honestly say I have NEVER had this happen on any vehicle I owned before, and I have had cars that were 15-19 years old!

This is the second time I've had this problem with inside door handles breaking. My 2006 Fusion did the same thing but I was able to get one out of junk yard. Now the same thing happened with my 2009.

This is something Ford should fix and it should be fixed with a metal handle instead of this cheap plastic one.

interior door handle broken

The cheap plastic handle snaps off at the point where the block hits the door lock. This is just from normal use not misuse. The cheapest place I can find the handle is $40 plus shipping and the time of replacing it. Who knows how long the next cheap plastic handle will last. Ford needs to do a recall on this issue; it not only causes the handle to not work but the busted piece gets jammed in behind the door lock so you can't lock the door. The bracket behind the handle is made of stronger plastic than the handle itself, ridiculous. Over the years I've owned 3 F-250's, a Ford explorer Sport Trac and this Fusion for my wife. This is by far the cheapest part I've ever ran across in any of these Fords.

This is a huge problem. We can't lock our car and it doesn't seem to be a 'new' issue for Fusions. Ford should definitely issue a recall since it can cause someone's car to get stolen. It's not like we're man-handling our door handle, it was being used like a normal handle. And I've had a Ford F-150 for 13 years, no issues with interior accessories like this. So, obviously, low quality materials being used.
