While driving the instrument panel lights up with an organge wrench and check engine light. I am unable to accelerate and need to get off the road as quickly as possible.when I press on the gas pedal nothing happens. It sounds and appears like the car is about to stall.this has happened at least 8 times in the last week.I had the car towed to my mechanic who told me it is the trottle body and that a Ford dealer would fix it. I dropped it off only to pick it up 2 days later and they told me nothing was found. Since it didnt occur while they were driving it they would not replace the part. I have no other option but to continue to drive the car as I am a single mother with no other means for transporation and the mechanics at the Ford dealership told me it was "safe." The car engine stops responding at high speeds.. how is that safe?! updated 9/21/15

I have replaced multiple defects on my 2010 Ford Fusion. Now, on the way to taking my children to school..my power steering completely shuts down! I've read that there are over 400,000 complaints and a pending lawsuit on the same issue with my car! I've filed a lawsuit to address this problem. I've spoken with the Ford dealership, who stated that nothing can be done. I will never again buy a Ford!

My 19 year old daughter was driving to college when out of the blue she went to drive around a right hand corner at about 45 mph and the electronic power steering completely failed the car steering was so hard to turn the car didn't make the right hand turn so the car went across the road and up over the curb and almost hit a lady walking her dog no one was hurt but sure could have been the car has no other damage besides the steering and the advance track not working I'm very glad everyone is ok I'm 50 years old and I have never seen anything like this I had to go get the car off the curb and drive it to the Ford dealer way hard to do even harder then a older vehicle if the power steering failed something really needs to be done before someone gets killed 42000 miles car is like new and I see well over 500 complaints so far so I would say this isn't just a random problem.

I was driving, and the car chimed a couple of times and the power steering immediately stopped working. The service power steering system now reading and advance trac reading started to show. Ford says it has not had any major issues as per 2 Ford service dealerships. I went to college for automotive and worked as a tech for Ford and I know power steering randomly going out is a safety issue. We were fortunate to not have any injuries, but this issue almost got us into a wreck. I will not pay Ford to fix a dysfunctional part that they installed. Paying Ford to fix the problem is like paying a serial killer to sharpen your knives before he/she decides which knife to stab you with.

My wife was driving the Ford Fusion and an error for "service power steering" came up on her dashboard. She still had power steering and was able to make it to work and park. Upon leaving work, she turned the car on and realized the power steering was completely gone. She could not drive the car because she could not efficiently turn the wheel. I had to go pick her up and at which point I realized I could attempt to steer the car. I was able to make the commute home safely, although the drive was a struggle the entire time. We took the car to a Ford dealership. They were unaware of any common issues. They diagnosed the car needing a new rack and pinion unit (the epas unit). We replaced the rack and pinion, not through Ford because they wanted $1800 we did not have. And the issue is still present. The car not safe to drive. It has been a real inconvenience for my family. The car is 5 years old and this is a major issue. And we still have 3 years left of payments on something that is currently not drive-able....//. updated10/27/15 updated 12/05/2017

I was driving home from work, had to stop and drop some items off for my daughter at summer camp. When I was leaving camp the steering felt like it wanted to pull to the right, a few miles down the road all power steering was lost. Service advanc-trac warning message was being displayed on the dash board. I pulled over at a convenient store to investigate the problem, could not find anything. It was raining so I carefully drove home without any power steering. Took car to local dealership where they diagnosed the problem as a rack& pinion failure, total cost to repair $1,641. The dealer stated they had not seen this problem before. After a short search I found hundreds of similar problems reported. I read where this same problem initiated a recall on the 2011 Ford Fusion, but no help referenced to the 2010 Ford Fusion. If they identified the defect in the 2011 models, shouldn't they fix the problem from the previous models with the advance-trac system. No dealer will touch this vehicle with its defect as a trade-in, meanwhile I'm still paying on a car that I can not drive safely.

I was traveling down the highway around 60 mph and the power assist check message came on. I stopped in the next town and shut car off. When I restarted I said to check system now and had no power steering whatsoever. Since I was 1.5 hours from home I tried driving for about 20 miles and decided that was enough as there was very little control of car. Ended up having someone come pick up car a trailer it home.

I was driving about 25-30 mph in the busy streets of van nuys California, I had my entire family in the car as we were going to eat dinner. As I approached the parking lot from the street, the "vehicle dynamic control off indicator light" turned on, then immediately right after a message on the dashboard popped up and read "power steering need service". as soon as I tried to turn into the parking lot the power steering went out, I had to use all my strength to pull the steering wheel and avoid crashing into the cars exiting the parking lot (the cars were waiting to make a right, into the main street van nuys blvd). I can usually muscle a car without power steering, if it were a traditional oil pump, but the electrical system was almost impossible to turn. Luckily I made the turn without incident or injuries, but this is definitely something Ford has to address. There are many situations I can imagine where this power steering failure may lead to property loss, injury or even death. The power steering gave no warning, I looked up how to fix this problem online, only to find that hundreds of people had experienced the same exact problem, I also noticed that all their posts were within the last month, so this problem is not uncommon. Ford must address this problem asap in order to avoid injury or death, they should have noticed this in the testing phase of Fusion production. Thankfully my family and I are ok, but now I have to find a way to work and come up with $1800+ for repairs.

While driving 30mph the advancetrac system flashed on the that dash board. As a result I lost all power steering control and almost ran head on to an, on coming vehicle as I was making a right hand turn. Took the vehicle to dealer to get repaired ($1249.40). This all occurred on 12/15/2012. The second incident happened on 12/27/ 2014. As my family was traveling 70mph down I44 near joplin, Missouri. The advancetrac system flashed on the dash board and once again I lost all power steering control. In doing so the vehicle took a hard right almost putting my vehicle underneath a tractor tailor. I was able to get the vehicle under control and limped the vehicle back to my home. The fault in this vehicle almost killed me and my family, this is a on going problem with this vehicle around the nation. How many fatalities is it going to take before the NHTSA forces the Ford Motor Company to recall the vehicle's and fix the problem. Thank you for your work, in getting this problem resolved.

I had a problem with my power steering wheel wit a Ford Fusion 2010 I investigate end found that 2009 to 2011 have a power steering wheel problems that cost 1600 to fix it there's 1000600 complains about this and Ford needs to change all the power steering wheels end there's being a lot of accidents when people are driving on the freeway when the power steering brake down they should make Ford fix this problem like they made Chrysler I don't know know how much people are going to die until you guys fix this.

This is 3rd incident. Daughter driving vehicle on interstate approx 75mph. After 1 hr of driving, steering got stiff, advance trac light sensor appeared and "service power steering". she slowed down and was able to exit the interstate safely and park the vehicle at a gas station. After turning off the vehicle and turning back on, power steering was completely out. "service power steering now." My husband went to pick up the vehicle and see if it needed to be towed back to dealer. Once the car sat for about an hour, my husband turned on the vehicle and steering was operational. He was able to drive the vehicle back to the dealer (an hour drive on interstate going 50mph). He noted that the steering would come and go - didn't matter what speed he was going- it was sporadic. Dealer recommends new power steering even though the power steering was replaced 2 years ago. They weren't sure if this would or would not happen again. Seems to be a Ford defective part (software issue or sensors) that hasn't been recalled yet so by replacing the module again may only be a band aid till a recall is made and a "fix" is made to this part. "advance trac sensor, ?torque sensor, etc.. seems like once the advance trac sensor is tripped, it's a domino effect and power steering sensor is somehow disabled. Ford already recalled other models with this epas for different defective sensors - not sure why the Ford Fusion haven't been recalled yet. Maybe they don't know the exact cause of the power steering failure"

We were pulling out of a parking lot and a warning chimed to "service advancetrac" and, simultaneously, I lost power steering while trying to turn. We came to a red light so I tried shutting the car off. Upon restart, everything appeared to be working properly. However while driving home the warning came back on, and I continued to lose power steering at random times. Driving around curves was especially frustrating, since I would go into the curve without power steering, and it would sporadically resume function, causing me to run off the road twice. We have not driven the car since then.

I was driving at about 25-30 miles per hour and got a flat tire. I stopped the car and changed the tire, but once I started driving the caution alarm came on and started flashing that the "electric power assisted steering" malfunctioned. It became difficult to steer the car. I almost ran off the road into a drainage canal trying to make a turn.

As I was going down the highway, my power steering failed. I was almost unable to turn into a parking lot to get the car off of the road. The messages on the dash read power steering fault and service advance trac. This seems to be a common problem with these type of cars. The replacement part is $1400 plus labor. Something needs to be done to get this recalled.

Shortly after starting the car the power steering service and advance trak service announcements came on dash. We drove for another 10-min and then stopped the car. When we restarted the car, we had no power steering at all. Powering off the car and trying to restart has not restored any power steering capability and the advance trak and power steering service warning display constantly now. The car is undriveable.

Drove 120+ miles on interstate, parked car for approximately 30 minutes. Restarted and noticed warning light on dash, later determined it was "advancetrac" light. Drove 2 miles at 45 to 50 mph, car pulled extremely hard to the right. Stopped and cut off car to check tires, they were ok but noticed on dash readout was "service advancetrac and service power steering now." Restarted car and had no power steering. Extremely hard to drive but managed to get to Ford dealership; they said that the steering gear needed replacing at a cost of $2,249.27. Was out of town and couldn't leave it over the weekend so they reset fault code and I drove back home; power steering worked and no warning lights or readout on dash.

I had my daughter and 4 month old grandson with me. We drove 7 miles to town to go to grocery store with no car troubles. Parked and went into store upon returning and starting my vehicle it started dinging at me and I didn't know why until I tried to pull out and had no power steering. At this point I noticed I had 2 messages "service advanctrac" and "power steering assist fault". I looked under the hood for my power steering fluid only to discover that I had none and that the car had electronic power steering. I shut the car off and restarted both messages went away and car ran fine. In July it happened again and this time I was out of state, 5 hrs from home, on the freeway heading home when I had to pull off and shut the car down and restart it then I made it home. In September it happened again and this time my daughter had my car coming home from the grocery store in town with her 8 month old son coming up a hill out of town limits. She shut it down and restarted then made home. Now its October and on Sunday the 26th I drove to town for church with my foster son and the car ran fine. When I left church I started the car and both messages appeared again but shutting off the car would not fix it. I had to drive home with no power steering. My husband disconnected the battery for 1/2 hr and that didn't fix it either. I have been researching and found that this is a problem in the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion and its a costly problem that I cant pay for so now my car has to sit and I have no means of transportation, especially since I live in the country with no public transportation. Please help!!
