While driving home from work, the wrench light came on. The car seemed to go into a neutral drop and stopped accelerating. I pressed the gas, but there was no use. I had to turn on my flashers and pull over to the side of the road. I shut off the car and it shook for a few seconds. When I restarted the car, it drove like normal, and then repeated the issue. I took my car in to Ford today, to fix the issue. I was called 6 hours later and told that the "throttle body" needed replacing. After researching this online, it appears that there are 10's of thousands of Ford Fusion owners (same year, same model) facing or had faced this same issue. I called Ford, to see if there was a recall issued. The customer service rep said that there was not enough evidence to merit a recall. This is a safety issue if I had been on the freeway or a road with no shoulder, I would have been rear-ended for sure. This makes me question Ford's commitment to quality and safety with their products.

Instance #3 (in 2 days). After I left the breakfast place (see instance #2), I drive about a mile and it started shaking again and would not go. I turned it off and restarted. This was at a light that just turned green in heavy atlanta morning traffic btw. ~~I drive it to the dealership and explained what it was doing. Interesting thing is the service writer said he was pretty sure he knew what it was and said throttle body but could be the engine. ~~ he said he thought it was under warranty but I got a call later saying, sorry, no the throttle body is not covered under warranty. I did an internet search and found carcomplaints.com with five other owners of this made, year and model that had this same exact problem in 2013. Add to this the service writer at the dealership knew what the problem was just by my initial description. Why is this not a recall? a car suddenly loosing all propulsion is a danger to the driver and others.

I was driving South on I-95 in northern Florida doing 73 mph.. my vehicle suddenly lost all power and would not respond to pressure on the gas pedal. The highway was under construction at the time and I had to make an emergency maneuver between safety cones to pull over to the shoulder. The dashboard displayed two warnings: A 'wrench' figure and the engine trouble light. I restarted the vehicle and tried to resume my journey. The same thing happened one minute later and I again had to make a desperate turn onto the shoulder. I had my vehicle towed to a Ford dealer. After they checked the vehicle they told me the message that came up indicated the 'throttle body' needed replacement. The repair was not covered under their 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty! I have since found out this part has been very problematic for this make/model. I believe this part should be covered and a recall issued. This part failure at highway speed causing a total loss of power is very dangerous and put my life in danger. Please help me and other Ford Fusion owners.

Was driving my Fusion and the colder the weather gets the more the transmission messes up. I was told by the dealership on multiple occasions that this is normal and that there is a defect in the transmission that Ford is unwilling to fix causing long pauses between first and second gear and second and third, with high rpms (3500-4500). I have done research and found that there are hundreds of people with the exact same problems I have. I live on a main road and a few days ago I went to pull out and it was slick and a truck almost hit me when my car paused before shifting gears so that I can go. This makes a very dangerous situation and I would love to see the transmissions get fixed before something terrible happens. As of right now the dealerships are saying that Ford is not allowing any further servicing on the vehicles as a preventative measure.

While driving near my home at about 25 mph my 2010 Ford Fusion suddenly decelerated to about 2 mph and I had no control over the accelerator. Since I was only about 100 yds from home I let the car creep along and as I reached my driveway, it suddenly bucked and briefly accelerated. I parked on the side of the garage rather than drive inside as I was afraid it might accelerate inside the garage. I had it towed to the dealer the next day. There it was diagnosed as having a faulty electronic throttle body. A brief online search indicated that this is a rather common problem in the 2010 Ford Fusion. I was very fortunate that is occurred on a quiet side street with no other vehicular traffic. It could have had tragic consequences had this happened while driving on the highway.

I was driving at 65 mph on the highway and the car lost all throttle response all of a sudden. I had to turn on my hazard lights and coast to a safe spot to pull off. This happened 3 times in 2 days. The dealership says it needs a new throttle body which is not under warranty. I have researched online and found that there have been several 2010 Ford Fusion with this same problem. This is a major safety problem! there needs to be a recall on this part. All 3 times this happened I had to coast to get out of the way of traffic moving at highway speeds. Had I been on a 4 lane highway in heavy traffic in a middle lane I would have had a hard time moving to the shoulder safely.

Transmission fluid leaks seal at left cv joint. I took it to have it serviced due to slipping/ jerking when changing gears. Total of repairs cost me over $500, 4 days later, seal is broken again and needs to be replaced again. Ford needs to recall this vehicle...after seeing hundreds of exact same issue!

The car jerked hard once while traveling at highway speeds. The car then lost power and the wrench dashboard light came on. The car had to be guided to the shoulder in heavy traffic with no power. The car jerked and bucked very hard. When turned off the car restarted and the check engine light came on. This exact pattern has repeated several times at various speeds over the past 24 hours.

We were traveling on highway at 65 mph when suddenly lost power, car was shuttering and "wrench" light came on. Since we were going uphill at the time, we lost speed incredibly fast but managed to make it out of traffic lane and onto the shoulder. The car was turned off and then after a minute it restarted and ran ok but we're afraid that it isn't safe to drive until this problem is fixed. It would appear to be a faulty throttle body.

Driving to work approx 40 mph, car began to sputter like it was running out of gas, but had 3/4 tank. Wrench light lit up and lost acceleration immediately in the middle of an intersection. Was able to coast to the side of the road. Put car in neutral and tried to rev the engine - thinking maybe dirt in fuel line or fuel filter. No luck. The car did not stall, so I put in back in gear and was able to limp at negligible speed thanks to a slight downgrade to a parking lot nearby. After shutting off and restarting the car it seemed to run normally but I didn't want to risk driving it and stalling somewhere more dangerous. Had it towed to the dealership. Awaiting their diagnostics. Sounds an awful lot like the other documented throttle body issues.

This vehicle was driven at highway speed of 50 mph. The advanced trac light came on the instrument panel, saying to service the advance trac is needed, when the transmission down shifted harshly an the engine light came on, an would not go off even after cutting the vehicle off an restarting the vehicle an would not accelerate higher than 20 mph in traffic on a Sunday afternoon. I had to continue this procedure the entire commute to my work place which was a 50 mile commute one way. I parked the vehicle for 16 hours to hopefully reset the system. I came out to get in my vehicle to hopefully go home an the same actions started again on the highway. I turned the vehicle off an drove the vehicle to the dealership where I purchased this vehicle from with the engine light on the entire trip to the dealership. The dealership told me they would need to keep the vehicle to analyze what was wrong with the vehicle an had to take the transmission pan down to find out what was exactly wrong with the vehicle. The service was done the next morning an I found out the wiring harness was shaved with in the transmission an the part was not covered by the warranty or the extended warranty I purchased when I bought the vehicle. The cost was going to be at least 500 dollars to repair my vehicle. I know that other Ford Fusion owners must have encountered the same problem as I have on these vehicles an also I had the throttle body problem also on this same vehicle which cost me 600 dollars to repair this problem also in April of 2012. This was a severe safety issue since I am lucky to be alive now since if I had not been able to get off the road an restart the vehicle with the repeated problem.

My wife was driving home from work on interstate 85, she was in the middle lane, 70 mph at rush hour, a wrench light came on and the car lost all power, she almost got rear ended, and could barely get the car to the side of the road, it did start again after a few minutes, she got it to the dealer, they told her it was the throttle body, which had gone bad.

I felt a jerk, like something may have hit me but there was no other vehicles around. I pulled over to the shoulder and as I did I notice a light had come on (little wrench) and the car just died. I sat for about 10 minutes and it restarted. Have called around and seems to be a common factor for Ford Fusion to have to replace the throttle bodies. If there is a problem, why have they not been recalled?

Turned the car off waited a few minutes turned the car back on started up fine. Didn't happen again until a week later, some problem happened again.

While driving the vehicle, it seems to lose power and the wrench light is displayed, sending the car into "limp home" mode. This has happened twice in the past week and a half. Luckily I was on backroads and was able to safely pull over both times the car lost power and ultimately shut down. I was able to restart the vehicle both times and the wrench symbol was no longer displayed. I had the vehicle towed to Ford, where they determined (based on codes stored in the computer) it to be throttle body failure. From online research this seems to be a very common problem with these cars, and a highly dangerous one. I travel on the highway daily too and from work and this is an unacceptable problem to have to deal with! hopefully there will be a recall/class action lawsuit so I can get some sort of reimbursement for the $550 this repair is going to cost. Of course this is not considered a "powertrain" issue, so it does not fall under my warranty.

At the end of an interstate on ramp, the Ford Fusion clunked, stalled, and the wrench light came on. It was in a very dangerous place. Lots of honking that I could do nothing about. After turning the car off and back on a couple of times, I was able to get it to a less dangerous place. Towed it to the Ford garage where they replaced the throttle body.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle began to lunge and jerk. The vehicle failed to accelerate and stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure and current mileage was 35,600. Updated 12/24/13 the throttle body failed. The consumer stated he purchased the part from a local Ford dealer and installed it himself. There have been no further problems.
