Fusion 6-cyl

Driving the car suddenly slowed into a limp mode. This happened several times. The final time was on a major highway at 55mph. Luckily I was able to maneuver the to the side of the road before getting rear ended by traffic from behind. This is dangerous condition! after visits to 2 Ford dealers, they replaced the throttle body. The car was out of warranty by mileage, (not time), so we ended up paying out almost $500 for the repair and car rental.

First incident: Vehicle was traveling about 40 mph and would not pull up a shallow grade hill about 1 mile from the house. Car was started "cold". wife pulled off road and engine died. "wrench" symbol came on dash. I arrived about 15 minutes later and started car to move it further off the road. It ran so I took it back home, no apparent issue. Called dealer and got it in the next day. Dealer is about 2.5miles from my home. Dealer could find nothing wrong and we drove it home. Did not drive it for about a week. Second incident: Wife at a busy controlled intersection. Car would not accelerate when light turned green. Called me after getting car started and moved to a safe location about 1/2 mile from intersection. "wrench" and "battery" lights came on dash. About 2 hours later we took the car to the dealer with no apparent problem. Dealer informed me the computer coded a throttle body issue. Throttle body changed. We have not driven the car over 10 miles since then. Wife no longer trust car.

We were on the hwy going about 65mph in the middle lane of an extremely busy time. It was dark and all of a sudden the car stopped accelerating and we barely made it to the side. Waited 5-10 minutes while we called a mechanic friend. Started it back up to see if we can get off on the next exit and before we could, it happened again. Finally got it home but had to wait two days to take it in since they were closed. Ended up not only costing me $400 to fix it, but also the inconvenience of not having a vehicle to get things done as well as a day off of work because I couldn't get there. Seeing as many complaints as I've seen, this should have been fixed a long time ago. I love Ford, but with the issues I've had, I'm considering a trade in for a different brand.

While I was driving on a county highway at almost 60mph the car shook/shuttered, then a wrench warning light appeared and I pulled onto the shoulder of the road because it felt like the car was losing power. I had just gotten off of the highway and it stalled. I called my husband to come and because it was dark and only 20 degrees outside I started the car again about 15 minutes later. It started right up but we had it towed to a mechanic anyway and they found nothing wrong with it. Because I was scared to drive it after this I took it to a Ford dealer (ewald in hartford, wi) to have it checked over. They could not find anything wrong with it. Then this same scenario occurred again about 3-1/2 weeks later at 5:15am on my way to work. This time I was just pulling away from a stop sign and barely going 20mph. It did the same thing with shaking, the wrench light coming on and the car stalling. There was no shoulder where I was so I didn't want to wait for a tow truck or help. I started it back up and took it back home where it sat in the garage for 1-1/2 days until I could get it to a dealership. Ewald Ford looked at it for me again but they said they could not find any issues. They told me not to start it again if it happens or the codes will clear out so I will need to have it towed or put a portable code reader on it to see if I can get something for them. I just saw an article in our milwaukee paper stating that you are investigating these issues and I wanted to let you know that I've had the same problems. Please help to force a recall before someone gets killed. Thank you!!

Driving on an interstate about 55 mph and wrench light came on engine lost ability to accelerate I.e. went into safe mode and had to maneuver through traffic to the shoulder. This occurred multiple times from July through August 2012 on various types of roadways (highway, neighborhood roads) until the problem was fixed by a Ford dealership. Cause of the problem according to the invoice was the throttle body. They replaced the throttle body and the problem has gone away.

I was on the freeway when engine speed suddenly went to idle. I was in the middle lane and almost got into a crash trying to get to the road side. When I brought the car to the Ford dealer they said the throttle body was bad and it cost me $500 they said it was not covered under the power train warranty, go figure. Also the transmission does not down shift properly after heavy acceleration, they said it was normal. It's no wonder why people shy away from so called american cars, it will be my last.

The wrench light came on and stayed on steady and the car suddenly lost all engine power. Headlights stayed still on and hazard lights worked. I tried starting the car but pressing the gas pedal produced no movement of the car nor any increase in engine sound. After trying to start it several times, it seemed like it started but not a normal start. The engine appeared to be very rough but again, no fast engine sound. It kind of limped to the side of the road which was on a very slight incline. No pressing of the gas pedal produced any significant movement of the car. The car was violently shaking as it limped to the side of the road at maybe 2 miles per hour. Once I got it to the side of the road out of traffic, I did turn it off. I gave it about 30 seconds and it started normally. No more wrench light. It seemed to work fine after that. I drove home " about 90 miles with no further problems. I reported the problem to our local Ford dealer. The dealer has been supportive. Ford Motor Company has not been supportive. When I called the Ford dealer explaining the symptoms, the service coordinator?S first question was, ?is it a Fusion?? he already knew it was a common problem with Fusion. He said that I am not going to like what he had to say. He said that Ford will not allow him to do the 30-minute repair unless a code is available in the obd unit. I brought it in and no code was found. They tried for two days to get it to code. The service manager pleaded with Ford?S upper level to allow the repair but they were inflexible. Their response ? ?no code, no repair.? Ford"S customer relationship center was useless! they offered no help. The local dealer had six cars the week after my car died with the exact same issue as mine. I was placed back on the road with Ford knowing I would again be stranded. It happened again 4 weeks later.

While driving under normal conditions, at approximately 45 mph, engine suddenly stalls, wrench light comes on dash board, no power to engine whatsoever. Pulled the car over onto shoulder, engine is shaking violently at this point, shut the car off. Waited approx. Five minutes, turn car back on, no problem. No more wrench light, no longer stalls. I took the car into a Ford dealer and they said I had a bad O2 sensor. So they replace it and say that will fix the problem. When I dropped it off I told them to look at the electronic throttle body because a lot of people online had posted about the same type of problem and the throttle body was to blame. The dealer told me they checked the throttle body and it was fine.' Ha!! however approximately 1-2 weeks go by and the same thing happens again with no warning. Driving down the road everything is fine and then suddenly the car stalls, no power to engine, shaking, wrench light comes on again. This happens 3 times in a span of about 7 miles. I bring the car back to Ford and tell them what happened. They call me back a few hours later and say yeah you've got a bad throttle body (but it was "fine" two weeks ago?) they then proceed to tell me that it will cost approx. $465 and it's not covered by any warranty. I also spoke with the dealer that I purchased the car from and they told me over the phone that they were getting a lot of these 2010 Fusion with faulty throttle body parts and that if I had it replaced it would actually be a different design than the original factory installed version. Yet I had to pay to have it replaced.

Driving 55-60 mph on freeway when car suddenly lost all power. It did not stall. It would jump ahead inches at a time if I pressed the accelerator but very dangerous situation as cars behind me had no warning that I was going to suddenly just stop. It took me 10 minutes at least to pull over to the side of the freeway and this only because a long haul trucker finally realized what was happening and blocked traffic for me to limp to the side of the freeway. This happened on 9/25/12, then again on 9/26/12. The only immediate fix is to turn the car off, let it sit a few minutes then start it up again. It seems to reset whatever is causing the problem. Through private contacts I was put in touch with a Ford plant manager who had me go to a certain dealership and had a recorder put on the car. It never did it while the recorder was on the car. They told me they felt it was a throttle valve problem but that my car was out of warranty and if it kept happening I would probably have a very expensive repair if the car kept doing this. It did it once more after the recorder was taken off and has not done it since November 2012.

I was slowing down as the traffic light turned red. The engine stalled and cut out. The wrench warning light came on. It took several tries to get the car started. Over the next several days, the car stalled while we were driving on a major highway in traffic at 45 to 50 miles an hour. We took the car to a Ford dealer who diagnosed the problem as a short circuit in the throttle body and motor assembly. They replaced the parts at a cost of $438.64. We have since learned of other Ford of the same age having the same problem.

At approx. 52K while drive approx. 40mph, all fuel power was lost and 'wrench' light came on. Had to coast to a stop, car sputtering. Put in park and killed the engine. Waited a minute, car started with some hesitation. Ran diagnostic, nothing. About an hour later, ran some B-12 through fuel; cured. Twice again at approx. 56K, same thing (once at 70mph on the interstate and the other at 55mph on a busy highway); ran B-12 both times. On third event, it finally gave a reading - throttle body stuck in open position. Brought vehicle to Ford dealership, they got the same reading and changed the throttle body to the tune of $350. Ford stated there was no technical service manual indication of problem forcing a possible recall. How lucky for me and my kids that we weren't in a high-traffic situation and I could safely maneuver to the shoulder...all three times!

I have a I4 2010 Fusion, started to notice in the city that it wanted to chug forward. Started to get worse and worse and then the light came on, once the light came on totally down will. When I was sitting at the light I would just take it out of gear because the car was shaking violently. I did look online and someone mentioned unplugging the battery and letting it reset. Well it actually worked for a little bit and its starting to do it every now and then.

We were driving around 50 mph when the car stopped accelerating and we slowed down to 5 mph.the wrench light and check engine light lit up. Luckily, there was nobody on the road behind us or we might have been killed from the sudden change in acceleration. We were told by our dealer that the throttle body needed replacing. They replaced it but the check engine light is still on. It was not covered by warranty (I was told by Ford customer service that no warranty covers that part). How convenient that they specifically don't cover a part that is clearly defective. I am not sure if anyone has died from this problem, but I have two teenage sons who drive that car and I don't trust it anymore. After reading all of the complaints on this site, and elsewhere, I demand that an investigation be done into this faulty part before someone is injured or killed. Thank you.

I was traveling on a highway going approximately 70 mph and my accelerator became unresponsive. The RPM's dropped to idle, engine did not stop running but would only coast. The wrench warning light icon came on and later the check engine light came on. I coasted to a stop and put the car in park which is when the car began jerking. I shut the car off and put on my hazard lights on the highway. I was able to restart the car, but it was a rough restart. I was able to drive off and it appeared to run fine. I did some research online and found that many owners of the Ford Fusion have had this recurring problem with their throttle body. This also is affected by other models of 4 cylinder engines. My Ford customer service stated that they had no customer service complaints about this problem. I informed them of all the complaints online, they told me that the throttle was not covered by warranty and this was not a recalled part. This happened numerous times after this, resulting in two near traffic crashes and almost getting tboned while making a left turn through an intersection. The problem is that the vehicle will run fine for a day or say, but with no warning stop running, sometimes at the most inconvenient times. I cleaned the throttle body, but it did not solve the problem. I purchased a new throttle body from my dealership for $185 with tax and replaced the part myself because it was very simple. I am in no means a mechanic, I am a cop and it took me only 5 minutes to replace it. I hope Ford identifies this problem before a traffic crash occurs due to the vehicle stalling without warning.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration power and then stalled. The throttle/ transmission warning light illuminated. The vehicle was moved to the shoulder while still in drive but failed to properly accelerate. The vehicle was shut down and took over a minute to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The contact also stated that the failure recurred several times. The contact personally repaired the vehicle by replacing the throttle body. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 53,000.
