This is my college age daughter's car. She has gotten the code" Power steering assist fault" twice. The first time was a month ago as she was backing out of the drive. The code lights up and the power steering is gone. She was able to reset it that time by stopping and starting the car.

Last Saturday she got the code again while out of town. Again no power steering as soon as it lit up. She tried to reset it, and even had a mechanic friend who lived in the area try to reset it but it would not clear. She drove home 2.5 hours with no power steering as she was out of town and we ( her parents) were also out of town but not with her.

Since this has happened and we have googled the code "power steering assist fault" we see that many others have had this same problem with their 2010 Fusions. The 2011 and 2012 Fusions were recalled for this problem, but not the 2010, even though they all have the same parts and same issue. I saw that their was a new investigation opened on October 3rd for this issue in the 2010 Fusion. I can only hope that it is also recalled so that I might recoup the $1368.00 I am paying to have this repaired.

My husband and I were driving about 55 miles an hour when all of a sudden the Service Power Steering Unit light came on. My husband pulled over and popped the hood to look to see if he could figure out the problem. He told me to turn the car off. I turned the car off then he got back in the car started the car again and we had no power steering at all. It was difficult for him to steer and if I or one of our daughter's had been driving we would have definitely had an accident.

We took the car to our local Ford Dealer who said it would be a minimum of $1500 depending on what the problem was. The Ford Dealer also said they have known about this problem for sometime and only warranty the power steering up to 65,000 miles. The Ford Dealer also said we could still drive our car, but would have to drive carefully and that the Electronic Power Steering unit usually goes out after 65,000 miles. The Ford Dealer also stated that it would be a minimum of $75.00 just to diagnose the problem.

Why is Ford not taking responsibility for their incompetent manufacturing and design when they know of the issues are occurring and causing their customers possible injury and death?

Power steering failed on my 2010 Ford Fusion. When I started my car the warning light came on power steering problem. Turning off engine and restarted which reset the power steering and came back. I took it to Ford dealer and the cost would be $1900.00 to replace power steering assembly. All warranties have run out by 5 months. This is real pain in the ASS and COSTLY. I will never buy another Ford car again,

My son was driving my 2010 ford fusion and the power steering just went out almost causing an accident. a message is coming up saying power steering assist failure. I googled info about it and ford recalled some cars for the same reason but not all models. there has been thousands of complaints about the same thing yet they only fixed certain ones. what are they waiting for someone to get killed?

This vehicle was being driven by my teenager when the steering failed. but for the grace of God he and his twin brother were not injured or worse.

I contacted Ford after researching the problem on line where I discovered that this is a known problem. In fact an NHTSA investigation # 15V340000, (Preliminary Evaluation #PE14030,) documented the problem in both the Ford Fusion and the Mercury Milan causing crashes. According to the evaluation the problem system, (EPAS unit,) was manufactured by TRW Automotive.

Ford customer relations told me, "there is no campaign for the problem and there is nothing they will do for me."

I currently have 3 Fords in my garage and 2 are due for replacement. Hmm

I am waiting for a call back from the President of the company, which I was told would take place in approximately 24 hours.

This time [see my earlier posting] the steering actually LOCKED as I turned left to leave a parallel parking place--it took half a block with emergency flashers on before it was truly under control. Fortunately it was on a slow street. Yesterday I took it to the Ford dealer. Diagnosis was $140. "Electronic steering gear is bad [and] recommend replacement...retrieved codes u3000-49 & u3000-72." Estimate was $1900, so I declined at that time and did a test around my block this morning to see if the problem could be duplicated. I tried parking where I would need to turn left after turning engine off and restarting. A "Power Assist Fault" message came on this time. I have been calling independent dealers today to see what they can do. Unfortunately--and that's putting it mildly!--the Fusion steering-related recalls don't include the 2010!

The car started but with "Power steering assist fault" warning and power steering was not working. I turned off the car and then tried to start it but nothing happens. I called Ford dealership and was told I had to tow it to have it diagnosed. I read online that there was a recall for 2011 ford fusions with same problem but not for 2010 vehicles. I do not understand why there is no recall for the 2010 vehicles if it is the same problem.

Due to the cold weather the tire was low and it read low tire pressure,, as I was driving to get air in the tire, the power steereing stated it needed serviced,, then it started to get very hard to steer, then the traction control sensor notification, low tire, and service the power steering immediately started to display, nearly causing me to wreck . After getting air in the tire, and checking and buying some power steering fluid which took about two or three ounces and when I drove it home only the low tire pressure light was off, but it still has no power steering .

My driver side tire had went flat, I changed it and immediately the service power steering and service advance traction light came on. Power steering had been working on and off since then. Then a couple weeks ago coming home one morning, it had completely went out and caused me to hit a parked car. So as far as right now until I can get my car fixed, I am out of a car.

I have a 2010 ford fusion and the electrical power assisted steering has stopped working. I went and got a quote on it and it is to expensive to have repaired. It is going to be 1800 dollars. I wrote the CEO OF FORD AND I NEVER GOT A RESPONSE. I WISH THERE WOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE REPAIRED AND I AM SCARED I AM GOING TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT OR KILL MYSELF ONE FROM DRIVING THIS THING.

THANKS

We had a low tire on the drivers side front of the 2010 Fusion. We were right by a tire shop so we dropped in. All of the sudden the "Service power steering immediately" and "Service AdvanceTrac' errors appeared. We were without power steering, and the traction control light stayed lit up on the dash. I did some research and there is a recall for the 2011 and 2012 fusions, but not the 2010 model with the exact same steering assembly. I also found out that there is a class action lawsuit for this issue since ford won't recall the 2010. What do I need to do?

2010 Fusion - While driving 55 mph on a busy two lane highway, the power steering warning appeared on the dash. The powering stopped working!!! I was able to slow down, and with the steering wheel hard to turn, managed to get the car off the highway and safely stop. If I was driving that speed and was making a turn I honestly don't know if I could of safely stopped with going off the road or hitting on coming traffic.

Ford must take the responsibility and repaired these cars and the customer should not have to pay anything. Lives of drivers and passengers are at stake here, and yet they are not addressing even though Ford knows about this and have for some time! I would sign up- relating to the law suit

So this morning I was entering the freeway when my power steering and Advancetrac sensors failed. Causing my power steering to fail. I was making a sharp right turn on the ramp when my car refused to turn anymore. Luckily I was able to slow my car to a crawl when i connected with the median on the ramp. Still managed to crack the fender and wheel well though. I just don't get how Ford can recall the 2011 Fusion for this problem but not the 2010. When I have seen over and over again people who have dealt with the exact same thing. I don't have 1600 to fix this. I'm a young guy currently trying to get an apartment with my girlfriend. Ford NEEDS to extended this recall to every fusion/vehicle that has the EPAS in it. It goes out with no warning and is goin to cause someone their life.

Fusion SE 4.0L

Well I could have SERIOUSLY hurt someone else or my loved ones and my vehicle because without any warning once so ever my car stopped turning. Meaning it was 20 times harder for me to control my vehicle. The warning that flashed in the instrument panel in the split second of me trying to fix whatever was going on was that I needed to get my power steering serviced IMMEDIATELY! So in return my car's steering abilities just abruptly stopped. Luckily, I was at a gas service, able to turn on my hazardous and honk at everyone in passing not to come near me while my sister waved everyone away.

I understand there are issues that arise when you own a car but with the 2010 Ford Fusion its beyond ridiculous and quite frankly TOO DANGEROUS! I'm on my 4th recall with this car, most of which were recognized by Ford in some recall form which include: the Electronic Throttle Body, the front airbags, the emissions fuel system and now the electronic Power Steering Control Module. The thing is Ford has issued a recall for my newest problem the (PSCM) but only on the years of 2011 and newer cars. Leaving me left in the dark with a highly uncontrollable and terrifying car to operate without power steering and a 3 yr. old in the back seat.

I know there's currently a lawsuit against Ford now for the 2010 Ford Fusion and those experiencing this issue but Ford's corporate office still hasn't suggested that they are considering any help for individuals that have this make and model of car which they should. I thought could fix this by adding fluid somewhere and everything was be ok but booooy was I wrong. This is going to cost me towing to a dealership, rental car fees, a diagnostic test of $99 dollars, parts and labor and of course my time. All with the hanging carrot that I might be reimbursed if they do issue a recall down the line or at least that's what the ford relations customer service people told me. Not only will this cost me upwards $2000 and more but the parts are one back order too. This is my only car and I have to still make car payments during this. What a headache!!!

For the life of me, I just can't understand why there's no recall for 2010 Ford Fusion models pertaining to this problem when there's significant research that states many 2010 ford drivers are experiencing this. Ford built cars with electronic power steering which doesn't take fluid so if there's an electronic software issue that persists with one make and model give everyone the courtesy of being able to have their cars updated/fixed. Because when this issue hits you it's not pretty, quick or easy.
