I was out of town and in the middle of a busy highway, I got a message saying, "service power steering now" and the advance track system was malfunctioning. I could not steer the car at all, but managed to get to the side of the road and my brother took over and at least got the car home.
I went online and read many complaints about the same thing. My father has worked for Ford for over 35 years and he checked with a dealership to see if there were any bulletins or any "hidden recalls" and no to both. I found a mechanic that diagnosed the problem and re-set something on the computer, but told me I'd need to take it to a dealer within a week to have the computer re-programmed because the codes to reprogram are proprietary and only Ford has them.
This is a dangerous safety issue and Ford has not recalled this yet. I'm also going to issue a complaint to Ford and to the NHSTA.

I just purchased my 2010 Ford Fusion on August 1, 2013. I believed that I was purchasing a great car, however, slowly but surely I am learning that my 2010 Ford Fusion has issues along with a number of other Ford Fusions sold in the states. On Sunday, December 15, 2013, I experienced a flat tire. Luckily, a gas station was literally on the corner, I pulled into the station and filled the flat tire with the appropriate amount of air. I got back in my car, started it and proceeded to back out, my multi-function display begin to flash "Service Power Steering Now", "Advance Trac", I had NO idea what this meant until I began to turn the steering wheel.... It was EXTREMELY difficult to do so. However, I had no choice but to try and steer it. I made it back home safely and accident free running to the computer to research this since the Ford dealership was closed. I "Googled" power steering failure on 2010 Ford Fusion and there appeared a number of complaints from Fusion Owners. I thought that maybe this was a good thing... Perhaps there was a recall on my vehicle and this would be a quick fix or repair by a Ford service department. I contacted the Ford service department to inquire about this issue and to see if there's a recall and a representative confirmed that there is absolutely NO recall on my vehicle. I grew increasingly frustrated because after reading all the complaints I couldn't fathom how no one had researched this issue and deemed it a repair/recall that Ford should take care of. I am now subject to a $116.00 diagnostic charge by the Ford service department although the car is already stating what the issue is, and I will still have to come out of pocket for the repair, God only knows how much that'll be. Ford better do something and they better do something soon. I will take this as far as I have to!!

needed a new steering rack. lame. apparently you cant buy JUST the rack, because apparently this flawless equipment has been completely redesigned to prevent further problems... IF i didnt get it fixed, there would be a sudden outage of steering and would cause my car to lose control.

2010 Ford Fusion SE V6 - 61,500 miles. 2 weeks ago my daughter experience loss of power steering while driving on the interstate. Had car towed to dealer and they "reset" computer / power steering system. My daughter had been driving the vehicle for 2 weeks without another issue until a few days ago. Again, she was driving on the interstate, Advance Track light and "Service Power Steering Now" comes on in car. Steering wheel locks up but she was able to safely pull over and park car. Car gets towed a second time to dealer.
Service shop claims that they've never encountered this problem with Ford vehicles even though there's a huge Ford recall on the Ford Escapes for power steering issues. I was told 2 solutions: replace entire power steering system ($2,200) or have system reset/sensors recalibrated again. Even if I replaced the whole entire power steering system, they couldn't warranty or guarantee that this issue wouldn't happen again and of course, vehicle isn't under warranty nor would power steering fall under it.
Again, I had the dealer recalibrate everything (whatever that means) - checked all sensors including tire pressure monitor sensors. And again, their computer diagnostics show the vehicle as being "good".
I'm going to pick up the vehicle but scared to death having my daughter drive it. I'm going to give my daughter my vehicle for the time being - hopefully Ford will issue a recall for the Fusions. Are they waiting for someone to die in a car accident before addressing this issue? I see a ton of complaints on multiple forums about this exact issue. I also noticed a class action lawsuit in CA for this as well. WAKE UP FORD! Wouldn't you rather prevent an accident/fatality before it happens?
