Fusion SEL 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

Transmission jerks when shifting, particularly into gear 3 and especially when going up hills. I first noticed the problem when my car had about 80k miles on it and it got progressively worse. My car has never been involved in any accidents and I have performed all of the recommended services on it up to this point. The car has a lot of highway miles as well, which means the gear shifting has been minimal.

When I put my 2012 Ford Fusion SEL in drive and accelerate RPMS go up rapidly to about 5 RPMS maybe 6, then shifts very hard but no other gears do this. I've find that once it's about to shift out of First, as if it doesn't want too, ease off gas right before it shifts out of First, it won't shift hard, then continue pressing as normal to get around and out of traffic. My wife says "honey doesn't any of our other cars do this"! definitely annoying.

My transmission problem has been ongoing and personally I am sick of it. Why can they not get things right. I cannot afford to pay for a new transmission and I dang sure cannot live without my car.

Fusion SE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,000 miles

1st drive of day I noticed the most. From reverse to drive it would hesitate before taking off into drive and when it did, it slammed into gear. Also I didn't notice until the dealership told me it wasn't normal, but it had delayed shifting between gears and would go all the way up to 3 RPM before shifting. Had PCM (Powertrain Control Module) reprogramed and had Throttle Body replaced.. It's now shifting fine

Update from Aug 10, 2015: Shifted fine for a week or so after update. Doing the delayed shift and hard shifting AGAIN

When I took the car in they told me issue not covered under warranty, and seeing here so many others have same issue. They are quoting me over $3,000.00 to have repaired. Brand new car and have had so many issues with it and nothing seems to be covered under the warranty. Ford should recall these cars! I think it is a crock that every time you take a car to the dealer with issues they tell you its not covered under warranty. What kind of coverage do they have. I bought the car brand new I am the only owner and it only had 17 miles on it when i bought it. And I put those on it for the test drive!!! So fed up with Ford ready to move onto something better.....

Fusion SE 2.5L I4 6 Speed

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

I have informed 2 different dealers of this issue. The dealer I purchased the car from & the dealer closest to my home. Both want my car for more than a day but I have no other transportation to work & they offer no loaner car for me. So I have not had this issue looked at. It happens first thing when the car is cold so I can't take it in & have them drive with me. It seems to be getting worse & really irritates me!!

I don't understand why they don't offer a loaner car when they insist on wanting my car for more than a day! I have no family & no other means of getting to work! Really, if they cared they would do something to help me because I need this fixed before something does happen!

Driving to Delaware to visit family with my son. He is 16 and has learner's permit. He was driving and our 2012 Fusion hesitates going into the next gear. He said it scared him. We immediately pulled over and I drove the rest of the way. 2012 Ford Fusion jerks/jumps/hesitates before going into the next gear. It's an automatic.

Fusion 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,009 miles

Took the car in for Transmission whining noise (all the time), advised tec of hard shifting at times and some jerking. Tec went for test drive and stated IDS Tested no codes and checked OIAS no message to reset.

But when I took the car to the same dealer last week to get a trade in value. I was told that something was wrong with the transmission. I was furious. The car drives and handles the same today as it did when I bought it. It has the same whining noise and gurgle that it did when I took it to be checked in June 2013.

So I took it over to the same shop Sloan Ford Columbia,TN and told it was not covered because it is now out of warranty. You have a lot of mileage on he car. "Ya think"

I have maintained the oil changes, replaced tires. Hell, the brakes are still in great shape never had to replace them as yet. So how is it that the trans has something wrong with it?

This car was taken to the shop on three occasions for the same thing.

Told this is normal operating condition of the vehicle. He can hear the Injectors and Evap. Solenoid are are Normal Characteristics.

Have been taking my car to the dealership since March 14,2012. I have brought my car in every other month or every month and they cannot figure what is wrong with the car. Hard to shift, take foot off gas and start to go and it acts like it doesn't want to go. Came close several times of having a accident, dealer says can't do anything unless there is a code. They felt it a couple of times. Called Ford complaints and they said they can't do anything until the dealer can find out the problem.

I guess Ford doesn't stand my their product. I guess something bad has to happen for them to do anything

Fusion SEL 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 56,000 miles

I purchased my Fusion in April 2014 and drive on the highway all weekend. In July the car started to act like it was trying to catch another gear while going at a steady speed. It since has done this at red lights where the RPMs go to 5 before it shifts. I had it in the shop 2 times at Porter Ford in Newark, DE they have changed the throttle body and it acted fine about a week and it has started again. The 2nd time I took it back they stated that nothing was wrong but they only drove it 4 miles. Now it does it even in reverse!! I had my foot on the brake and shifted into reverse and the car bucked like it wasn't going to stay stopped. It has also done this to my husband. Last week the car left me on the side on 95 with my 2 year old for about 30 minutes then started back up with no warning. I'm from a Chevy family... what was I thinking ever buying this POS!!! As a mom I don't feel safe putting my family in this car, I instead put them in my 13 year old BMW that has nearly 300,000 miles and doesn't give me any issues. I guess you get what you pay for. I hope that Ford realizes something is wrong so no one gets seriously hurt.

Fusion SE 2.5L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,200 miles

The day I test drove the car ,I told him it doesn't sound like it is shifting right . He said I didn't hear it , but the more I drove it nothing , it shifted fine. I took it back the next day to address another issue with the audio and mentioned it again . Hey it's OK, those don't have any problems like that. I bring it back the following week ,the service writer says I am not aware of any problem with the transmissions, if it gets worse bring it back . I told him if it gets any worse , I would park it in their service dept. and it would stay there until its fixed .

I went in to the dealership to find anybody who would listen and try to help. I made it thru the chain until I reached management and they said it should be addressed now and said they had been having some problems with the service dept. They said they would give me a demo to drive and would get it looked at tomorrow morning ,as it does it worse when it is cold . After awhile he came back and said his drive-ability mechanic was out until next week and that's who they wanted on it. So I'm put off another week. Meanwhile the car is downshifting real hard and clunking into 1st.

The flaring of the RPM's and the hesitant shifting and surging is getting worse . That week the worse of it came when I put it in reverse gave it some gas ,it slams into reverse and takes off towards my family and I barely get it stopped . I will not put my family back in this car with this kind of safety issue . I take it back to the dealer they act baffled and said they don't know when I will get my car back, that they have to call a special team in from FORD to look at it since it is a safety issue.
