I purchased an extended warranty to 100000 miles for my 2013 Ford Fusion. It had numerous recalls which were all handled by the dealership, TOWNE FORD in Redwood City, CA. It was also brought in for regular service. Since I had it, why not use it, right?

At 99500 miles, while driving my wife and I to work, the car suddenly shot to high temperature, powered down and we had to crawl to park on the side of a residential street. The car would not start and had to be towed to Towne Ford where the noticed that the COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR was on recall and had failed in this case causing the engine to overheat. They replaced the sensor but never checked for damage. They gave me the car back and hoped I wouldn't have any more problems for the next 500 miles.

Shortly after, the check engine light came on saying that we have low coolant. I brought the car to an oil changers and they noted in the documentation that coolant was low. Shortly after that, the coolant alert came on again and I added fluid myself before bringing it to the same oil changers which noted that the coolant was overfilled. After this, I scheduled an appointment with TOWNE FORD. When I brought the car in, they snaked the engine and found a HEAD GASKET LEAK that requires a full engine replacement for a price tag of $8000!

I contacted Ford and opened a case and after back and forth, Ford said that they would cover $3400 towards the cost (no surprise the cost dropped as their amount equals 55% of the new cost). I would have to cover $2100. I only owe $4100 on the car.

I produced the documentation where you can easily connect the dots between the recall piece causing the overheating which caused the engine damage and based on what I know, the manufacturer is 100% responsible for any and all property damage that occurs due to a defective part. This part caused FIRES in other cars!! However, as of now, Ford is not doing what is right. I offered to give them the car in exchange to being free and clear on my loan. We will see if they accept that.

I sent them an email requesting one additional review. If they come back and are still not budging, what is my response? Bite the bullet and pay $2100 to have the car fixed and then sell it? Hold out and pursue legal action? Paying another CENT on this car really disgusts me. Options?

The check engine light on my vehicle will randomly come on and go off as I am driving down the road. Of course every time I take it to the shop there is no light on and it isn't pulling any codes however my car has also been stalling out lately while driving, stopped, and pulling out into traffic. I am very unhappy with Ford and this vehicle and there is nothing I can do to change it. Ford needs to get it together and find a solution to these issues before someone ends up losing their life!!!

On way to work I on the morning of 10-12-17 going about 75mph on interstate and all the sudden there was a ding and flash of red (Check engine light) on the dashboard stating engine overheating and engine shut down and car basically went into neutral. I lost all power, radio, lights etc. With the momentum I had built up going 75 I was able to make it across the 4 lanes to the shoulder. An Ohio State trooper stopped to assist and was dumb founded when he say there was no power, the car would not turn on. I called the dealership spoke with Jay and advised that car was being towed in. Service department at Ford is stating that it’s a safety feature to stop fire from happening, but honestly how safe is to have the engine and all electrical power completely shut down on interstate. It was a matter of seconds between ding, light and loss of power. Car was towed in using my AAA Membership on a flatbed to Liberty Ford in Brunswick, Ohio. I was advised later that day that it was the water pump and had nothing to do with the sensor that was recalled. I had to use PTO for work on Thursday and car was ready for pick up on 10-13-17 around lunch time. On 10-13-17 I had to leave work early to get to dealership before they closed at 6pm otherwise I would be charged $50.00 for the loaner if returned on Saturday morning. I picked up my car and it cost me @$107.00 for the deductible since they are stating it had nothing to do with the recall and that it was the water pump. On the afternoon of 10-14-17 (@ 12:30-12:45pm) driving in Medina area on way to event with niece in the car the check engine light came on again. I called the dealership and spoke with Jessica and she said as long as it was not flashing I was fine and had 2 days to bring car in, I asked if I needed to have it towed to dealership again and was advised no It was safe to drive. At this point I was at my destination with my niece. I called for my dad to come pick niece up after the event as I did not feel it was safe for her to be in the car. I had car to dealership around 3:30pm on Saturdays October 14th. They had a loaner waiting for me. Nicole was the intake rep that I spoke with since she was there when it was towed in Thursday. I have to be honest I was not the politest or politically correct individual in the service depart as I was so frustrated and upset, being that my car was not fixed. Recall in question has NO FIX, really! My vehicle was pressure tested in May 2017 for this recall and I was advised it passed the pressure test, but there is really no fix for it. I am frustrated because you can tell me that the issue that happened to my car had nothing to do with the recall. I was promised that there were no other issues with the car as they did a complete inspection of the vehicle from the time I dropped off till noon the following day. Recall Number 17V209000, Recall Date 03/27/2017 Component ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014 Escape, 2014-2015 Fiesta ST, 2013-2014 Fusion and 2013-2015 Transit Connect vehicles equipped with 1.6L GTDI engines. If the vehicle is started and driven with an insufficient level of coolant within the engine cooling system, the engine cylinder head may overheat, crack and leak oil. Consequence: If the cylinder head cracks and leaks oil, the oil may contact a hot engine or exhaust component, increasing the risk of a fire. What Owners Should Do: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install a coolant level sensor and the supporting hardware and software, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed April 21, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available, currently expected to be in late-2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S09.

Then on the morning of 10-16-17 I called Ford customer care number 1-800-392-3673 and filed a complaint/concern and was given a case number of #CAS13331759. I was advised that this would be escalated to the service manager and management team at the dealership. I was also advised that I should call and let them know of the case number. I spoke with Nicole in the service department and was advised that I would not have my car for a few days. With the visit on 10-12-17 R.O Opened at 8:am and closed out on 10-13-17 at 12:36pm the following was replaced: 8005D cooling system Pressure test- Diagnosis (8005) L, 1 7S7Z*8501*C Pump ASY – Water, 1 BE8Z*8507*A Gasket – Water Pump, 1 VC*3*B Antifreeze, 1 DG9Z*18472*E Hose- Heater Water, 8501A Water pump or Gasket – remove and install or replace (8501/5807) – L, 18472A Hose-Heater – Replace (18472/18663B/18C553/18K359/18N345/8B081) – L, 1591 WESP4. Loaner was issued, and Performed Multipoint Inspection (2-11) 91591 ISP. With Visit on 10-14-17 it was found that Coolant bypass Solenoid needed replaced and Fuel Injector Pressure sensor also needed replaced. If a true inspection was completed on the vehicle why was this not identified? They then ran the EEC System Diagnosis (Quick test) and Engine Module- Diagnosis Pin Point test. My vehicle hesitates now when running for long period of time. It is my personal believe that this recall is causing more damage the Ford is willing to admit or fix. I am more concerned the damage that could have happened should an accident occurred in the vehicle do to the COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER.
