We have a 2013 Ford Fusion 1.6L EcoBoost which my wife drives as her daily driver. She has been having issues, which have been reported in another post, with electrical issues on the car but now it has started stalling on her when she is driving. Most of the times that this has happened, it has been when she was pulling through the parking lot at her work, in a store parking lot or while pulling down our driveway. However, it stalled on her again a few days ago while she was driving through town on a four lane road. Luckily she was able to put the car into neutral and coast to the shoulder and then was able to get the car restarted but this could have been much worse. What if the shifter had locked up and she could not get it in neutral and couldn't get it to the shoulder? What if it had happened on the Interstate Highway? I am sure this issue is related to the electrical issues she is having as all components of the fuel system is working properly. Has been tested and no issues found with the fuel system. But there are several owners of these vehicles with the same issues and from what I can tell by following each of the posts to other posts by the same owners reporting multiple issues they all relate back to the electrical problems. Now I am not an ASE certified automotive tech but I have been working on, restoring and customizing cars for about 20 years as a hobby when I have the time and money and I am an IT Professional so the computers and electronics on the newer cars make perfect sense to me as far as how they work, what they do and how the computers are programmed. However, what doesn't make sense to me is how there can be such a major issue with a vehicle that has so much technology in the car and so many sensors to monitor everything on the car and no diagnostic test no matter how often they are ran or when they are ran will show that there is an issue. This is insane. We are beyond frustrated. We are beyond mad. And we certainly will get rid of this car once we get it running properly again and I can assure Ford and anyone else that we will never own another one again!

Bought the car new at the end of 2014 with less than 500km on it. First big trip and at about the 750k mark, the engine completely dies on the highway, total loss of power. Managed to get to the side of the road, wait for heart to slow down, and try to start the car, nothing. Hmm, new car, dead on the side of the road. Waited 15 minutes more, cranked it over, started but was in some sort of limp mode. No power, sucking back the fuel. Got to my destination where I had to park the car and take a company truck to a remote job site for the next two weeks.
Come back from job site, car starts up no issues. Drive it home back to the dealer, he plugs in his gizmo, says I've got codes on everything. They do a couple of recalls as well as change out the PCM behind the front valance, say its all good,,,, of course stay tuned, because sure enough it happened again that summer.

2013 Ford Fusion has stalled while driving four times in the year and a half. Driving down the road and car loses power and will not restart. Fuel sensor and an "air" sensor have been changed. The most recent breakdown was March 17 after having fuel sensor replaced after last breakdown on Feb 20. After it comes back from the shop I will be trading it in.
This is a known problem with this vehicle and Ford needs to fix it!!!!! Will insist shop checks the electronic throttle body which as I have read is a problem with this car. Will NEVER buy a Ford product again!!!!! If you're thinking of purchasing a Fusion--DON'T!!!

I have a 2013 Ford Fusion. Lately for the past month or more my car is stalling out. While driving, while stopping, while idling, while being put into gear, it does it randomly at any time. I couldn't get the car to stay running at all when I went to pick my son up from school so I had it towed to the shop. Once it got there of course they say that they can't duplicate the issue but they replaced the fuel sensor which is all they could think of to fix. Cost about 400 dollars and wouldn't you know IT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM!!!
This is very frustrating and it is extremely dangerous. I went to pull out onto the road and my car just died. I have a child and I live in Memphis, TN. This can literally cause me to lose my life, my son's life, or someone else's. This is beyond ridiculous. I have already had around 12 recalls fixed on this vehicle. This is nonsense! If no remedy is available to fix this issue then they need to recall the vehicles because this is endangering people's lives and that is not right!!! I am beyond frustrated!!

2013 Ford Fusion 2.0L Ecoboost would intermittently rough idle and stall between 50-65K miles. Was able to reproduce the issue multiple times after several months; noticed it was correlating with refuels without topping it off. Filled up on a Monday, same Monday evening(5pm) reading e-mails in a parking lot stalled repeatedly until check engine light came on with a low fuel rail pressure code. Worked out came out and started up fine and drove it home. Did some lengthy research through Ford Forums and found the symptoms to be a persistent issue with other models in the same age range. Evap purve valve is the perpetrator in this case. Unfortunately, the issue was not resolved before stalling in a mall parking and being t-boned at low speed.

Vehicle is stalling at low speeds, after being warmed up (driving for 30 minutes or so), then stopping and shutting off car, and then restarting within 10-15 minutes. Very concerning problem and can be extremely dangerous if needing to accelerate into busy traffic. Problem is 'unheard' of in Calgary dealerships, but must be occurring in other Canadian Ford Fusions.
should be under warranty!!!

On several occasions my car will randomly shut down. I have to put in park and re-start. It usually happens when I've been driving a while and stop somewhere (like a store). When I'm leaving, before I get out of the parking lot, it shuts down. It stopped doing it for several months and it happened again last week.

My 2013 Fusion Titanium 2.0L intermittently would lose power after shifting into drive from parking or reverse and stalls. I would have to put the car into park and then restart the vehicle and it would drive fine afterward. The problem is very random and doesn't happen all the time. The last time it happened to me was on a trip from Houston back to Dallas, the car stalled and the engine light came on after restarting. I took to the dealership to have it diagnosis, which came up as a low pressure fuel sensor error and spent 350.00 to have the sensor replaced. After looking up the issue online, it seems like this is a common issue with this car for people experiencing the same stalling problem. Ford really have issue with quality and this is not covered under the powertrain warranty per the dealership. This really is a safety issue Ford should address.

While pulling onto a major highway, car died. Quickly shifted into neutral and restarted car. Unfortunately, there's no check engine light on, hence no way to diagnosis the problem.
Update from Dec 30, 2016: Finally a wrench light came on in the car. It did go off when I turned the engine off, but a local mechanic was able to diagnosis as a fuel level sensor - it was replaced a week ago - so far I have not had any other issues. I almost hate to say it - because I expect something else will fail - it notoriously does on this car. Fuel Sensor and labor cost me $190.

My car has stalled around 8 different times while driving. Most of the time, I've been in a parking lot, just started to accelerate and the car shakes and sputters and shuts off completely. I restart it, which takes a bit longer than normal and all is well again. However, I did have this happens 2 times in a row, back to back. A couple times it happened on the road while driving. Wasn't going very fast, it stalled and I had to restart it again. This is really dangerous if in heavy traffic or city driving. Which is the case for me daily.
I have brought it to the dealer 2x, currently its there again. I was told the Ford extended warranties on certain cars due to this problem, however, unless they see this problem for themselves, they cannot diagnose or fix it. They supposedly drove it over the weekend and claim it never stalled. The problem is, driving it for a half hour here or there is not proper time to see if it will stall. It's pretty random. Beyond aggravated that they just want me to keep bringing it in every time this happens, only to be told they can't fix it without proof for themselves.
Beyond ridiculous and horrible customer service. Other than this issue, I love my Fusion but this is crazy!

My car stalls out when I shift into reverse and then back into drive. It has been doing this off and on for the last few years. its doing it now more frequently. The car acts like its starving for fuel and starts bucking and then shuts off. Then I start it up and it is fine. The cars shows no check engine light, the dealer and other mechanics can not find a problem with the car and why this is happening. This will be the last Ford I buy. The car only has 22,000 miles on it and had been taken care of and had the 8 recall all done on this vehicle.

My ford fusion has stalled/died on me 4 times now so far. Each time it was when I was leaving a parking lot driving fairly slow. It started right back up the first 3 times but this last time it didn't start immediately.
This last time I was ready to enter a busy intersection. Thank goodness it died before I had entered the busy intersection. This could be very dangerous if it stalls when I am in heavy traffic. I have read some reports of others with this same problem. One person said it was the electrical throttle body. If this is happening to allot of cars, ford should fix this problem.

Car dies while sitting at an idle in parking lot. Had radio and fan turned on. RPM's kept going under 1, and then engine died. Did start right back up
- pebsk, Lexington, IN, US
The car engine will sputter and then stalls shortly after it starts up and put into drive or reverse, it starts back up. This has been happening for awhile according to my wife but I got to witness it twice today. The car is started and you start to move a short distance then it loses all mechanical power and the engine dies. This can be an extreme hazard if this would happen in an intersection. Ford needs to figure this out, as I'm not a big fan of Ford after this issue with our car.

The Ford Fusion has been having problems with engines shutting down for several years now. The problem is always the Electrical Throttle Body. The engine will shut down at normal speeds or slow speeds such as driving in a parking lot or slowing down to a stop sign or traffic light. The engine just turns off like you ran out of gas. You can then turn it back on like nothing is wrong. If it happens in heavy city traffic it can quickly become a safety and very dangerous concern. Ford was covering the part under an extended warranty called "Customer Satisfaction Program". I was happy to hear that till I discovered Ford was very specific. The car had to be from a certain factory at a certain time under a certain full moon when corn is planted (sarcasm). My 2013 Ford Fusion Ecoboost is not covered although it has the same problem as other Ford Fusions! The dealer said it would be $700 for the part and $200 for labor. Sounds like a great way for Ford to make money huh? They sell you a known defective product and want you to pay them to fix it. I can say this is my last Ford product. I can't help but see other Ford Fusions on the road waiting for an accident to happen.

I purchased a 2013 ford fusion new and a few weeks ago the engine had a catastrophic failure (dealers words). While driving down the highway the engine lost power and when I hit the accelerator black smoke started coming out the tail pipe and the engine light starts flashing. Had to pull over and get have the car towed. They said it was due to a malfunction of a fuel injector, and the engine will need to be replaced. The car is only 3 years old but has 76k miles so is out of warranty and Ford will not cover any of the cost ~6k.
While I understand the vehicle is not under warranty because it has 76k miles I feel given the type of failure and being a repeat customer Ford should stand by there product and provide some assistance for the repair. The service manager referred me to Fords Customer Relationship Center, and the CRC in tern refers me to the service manager.
Update from Nov 27, 2016: After a few months of negotiation with ford the engine was replaced at a cost to me of 2500.

First, this is my 17 year old daughter's vehicle. The first day we brought the car home in March of 2016, we were sitting in the driveway with the car turned on while we were going through all of the controls and handbook when the car sputtered and died. I started it right back up with no issue, but at times it acted weak as if it wasn't getting enough gas. I overlooked the issue until it happened again this week. My daughter had driven 30 minutes from home to the restaurant before church, parked, went in to eat, came back out to the car, started it, backed out of the parking space, and started to pull away when the car sputtered and died. She called me crying because she didn't know what to do. Thankfully, it didn't happen when she was pulling out onto a main road! I decided to come switch cars with her to see if I could replicate the problem. I drove the car around with no issues so I decided to stop in a store. Once I came back out, started the car, started to pull out into a busy intersection, the car sputtered and died. I was able to steer and coast to the side. The radio still worked, the lights were still on, but the car simply died. I put it in park and started it right back up. I took the car in for service today and they can't replicate the issue or find anything wrong with the vehicle. No warning lights or error codes popped up. There have been several recalls from Ford for cars stalling and dying because of fuel pump issues but of course our vehicle wasn't on that recall list! Not sure what the deal is, but I don't feel comfortable putting my daughter or myself behind the wheel of a vehicle that quits working while driving down the road!!!!
Update from Nov 21, 2016: We had the throttle body replaced about 3 months ago and haven't had any issues again. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I bought my 2013 Ford Fusion March 13 2015. While sitting at a stoplight on April 6 2015 and the engine shut off. I put it in park and it started right back up. Needless to say I was concerned because in about 5 minutes more I would have been on the highway going 70 mph. I got home okay but was worried all the way home that it would happen again. I called the Ford dealership and made an appointment to have it looked at.
They could not find anything wrong with it. I took it to another mechanic who has worked on all of my vehicles for the last 25 years and they could not find anything wrong with it either. On October 4 2015 while out of gear and sitting in the driveway waiting on my husband the engine shut off again. The radio is the only thing that stays on.

I am apparently not the only one going crazy over this problem. My 2013 Ford is doing what everyone else is doing. STALLING- Come on Ford this is an on going problem you have had numerous recalls. Like everyone else I am tired of "if we can't get it to do it when we drive it, we can't help you". This is an unacceptable answer" FORD". These issues need to be addressed.
I don't care, I will pay to fix the problem but I am not paying 800 dollars for a fuel pump that might fix the problem. I have found numerous possible issues and not 1 of them is the fuel pump. But that is what my dealer suggested. Once my car is warmed up and I run into a store could be 5 to 50 mins. I come out start my car go to pull out into traffic and it stalls.
My car has been doing this for 3 months now. It starts right back up and is fine. NO check engine light. It doesn't do it at traffic lights, stop signs, slowing down for turns. Only when I stop at a store, start it up and go to pull out into traffic. I am so disappointed with FORD over this problem. Their customer service even told me they could care less because I said in total frustration that I would never purchase another Ford product. FORD where do you want me to go with my FORD product for help? I thought a FORD dealer but apparently not. Please HELP!!!!!

I have a 2013 Fusion, the first few times this happened I was getting gas after running around town and I went to start the car and everything turned on, AC working radio working etc all like normal. But I couldn't accelerate at all, it would just shift into drive like normal and just coast. I would turn the car off and turn it back on and it'd be fine. It didn't occur very often, maybe once or twice in several months. Then my AC went out, went and got the hose replaced since there was a leak. Got the car back from the shop and it started happening more frequently. Now its not just when getting gas but any random time I try to start it. The scariest part was when I was crossing a busy intersection and the engine just shut off and wouldn't accelerate, I had to throw my hazards on and pull over and turn it off then back on again. Went about my business and not even an hour later it did it again when I was pulling out of a driveway. Shortly after that I tried to take a look at it, popped the hood, turned the car on and it didn't even take 2 minutes before the engine just stopped running. Took it back to the shop and they have a few guesses, they're thinking its one of the many fuel sensors. The check engine lights giving a couple codes but they cant tell which ones doing it, especially because they cant seem to replicate the issue at their shop. Car isn't under warranty and after being told I could drop anywhere from $200-$1000 to replace the sensors and it still might not work I'm honestly at a loss. Has anyone else had this issue and managed to fix it for good?
