Engine loses engine power when driving. Pressing the accelerator pedal does nothing. Must coast or brake until the car stops. Power steering, braking, and climate control systems remain functional; radio remains on; turn signals did not work. 'trans not in park' message appears on the display. Event has occurred three times when driving at highway speeds. Cruise control was on and set during at least two times out of the three events. Car may be restarted after coming to a stop, shifting into park and turning key to off. Appears to 'reset' to work correctly until the next unexpected event occurs. Check engine light does not come on. Chime occurs after the loss of engine power. The car does not shake during or before event. Have not experienced any harsh or delayed shifting when starting from stop or after slowing and trying to accelerate. Three identical instances have occurred since driving this car. In one of the three instances, the key was bumped with a knee. Present milage is about 48000. Car was obtained in 12/2016. Local Ford dealer states that there are no recalls or services outstanding for this vehicle; did not know of any reported problems like this. On May 15, 2018 wes myers at bob sight Ford in lee's summit, Missouri checked two other Fusion and noted that this same problem will occur if the key is barely rotated back - not so much as to think it should turn off the engine. As such, he did not find anything 'wrong' since other vehicles exhibit the same problem; replacing the ignition switch with another that has the same problem would not provide a fix. Also stated that unless the car was still under the bumper to bumper warranty, that Ford would not take any action. The vehicle leasing company (enterprise) has not issued any notices stating this is a known issue with the vehicle. NHTSA 9/19/2016, blacklick, oh, is similar issue.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. After parking the vehicle and shifting the gear shifter to park, the contact noticed that the vehicle displayed neutral instead of park. The vehicle started to roll away and the contact had to engage the emergency parking brake in order to stop the vehicle. The contact notified aaa and the technician placed the shift cable back in the correct position because it was loose. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer (fiesta Ford, 78990 varner rd, indio, ca 92203, (760) 772-8000) where it was diagnosed that the transmission shift cable fractured and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 60,169.

Car stopped accelerating in the middle of the highway, yellow wrench light came on and airbag light came on. The car started shaking and came to a complete stop. I barely made it to safety on the highway full of cars. I pulled over and turned it off because it wouldn't drive. I turned it back on and it drove fine. I have researched this and realized this has been happening to thousands of people who own 2016 Fusion and yet there is no recall. I am terrified of driving it. It seems to be the throttle body that needs complete replacement but at expense of the owner despite thousands of cases. How can this be? please advise.

This vehicle has had a dead battery 2 times after sitting overnight. No extra power draws we added. The last resulted with the engine light on once it was jump started. The engine code that was on was a P068A ECM/PCM power relay de-energized performance. It will be scheduled to go to the dealership to try to resolve this issue

This vehicle has had a dead battery 3 times after sitting overnight. No extra power draws we added. The last resulted with the engine light on once it was jump started. The engine code that was on was a P068A ECM/PCM power relay de-energized performance - too early. This vehicle has already been brought into the dealership where they performed a battery test and reprogrammed the modules. This was less than 1 month till it happened again

Similar to issues others were having with the throttle control placing the car into "limp" mode, it would appear that this is what happened yesterday as my wife was driving the car on a major highway near pittsburgh (376 West, near the split of 79 North/South) with me in the passenger seat, and three kids under the age of 9 in the back seat. Without warning, the car seemingly shut off or "throttled down" and began to shimmy and shake, losing most of its functionality. We were forced to pull to the side of the road, which we barely did, with vehicles speeding past at 4 lane highway speeds. The following day, I contacted Ford and explained the situation but was not told anything about this systemic issue. It was not until I discovered the issue on my own, that I learned about the fact that Ford has not issued a recall for the electronic throttle body control but instead a "customer satisfaction program" which was not communicated to me, to the best of my knowledge, until after we nearly lost our lives and I had to have the car towed. This issue is going to get someone killed (if it has not already happened) and it would appear that Ford fails to appreciate it. My vehicle has just over 18,000 miles on it. I own 2 Ford vehicles but won't be buying another.

While driving today, I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. The vehicle began to vibrate abnormally, and then the power went out. I began to smell smoke, and I almost hit the vehicle in front of me because I couldn't control my car! once I finally came to a stop, I was able to restart it and pull over to a safer area-- but the smoke remained. I believe the throttle body is malfunctioning, which is unacceptable on an almost-new car.

The etb (electronic throttle body) has failed twice. Once causing complete mechanical failure, the other causing the vehicle to go into limp home mode. I've read thousands of similar reports about 2013-2016 Fusion doing the same thing. This hasn't costed me any money but it's extremely dangerous, for the car wont move over 8 mph suddenly.

4th time: Engine misses, violent shaking like torque converter is connected, gas pedal not responsive, dash board lights up with a wrench. Owners manual says go to dealer asap. Been to dealer once, they said a transmission reprogramming was necessary. Now it has happened again within 12 days of being "fixed". this is very dangerous when driving at highway speed, or any speed for that matter, and the car dies and shakes and jolts. This has happened at 25 mph and 50 mph. One time in heavy traffic on a hill and I couldn't get up the hill and just had to block traffic. Help! if I can make it, back to the dealer tomorrow.

While traveling on business my 2016 Ford Fusion fleet vehicle suddenly lost power to the accelerator and began vibrating. The gas pedal could be pressed but had no affect as if it had been disconnected and an orange wrench appeared stating see manual. I was traveling approximately 70 miles an hour at the time (cruise control was set and had been at this speed for some time, no recent acceleration had occurred). When it happened I was in the middle of a highway construction zone with no shoulder. I went to tap the brake to see if it was still functioning and when I reached for it with my foot it was already partially depressed and when I tapped it the car felt like the brakes had locked or were for some reason extremely sensitive causing me to rapidly decelerate almost causing an accident since people were traveling behind me. After that happened I decided I had no other option and moved off to the right between the cones and brought the vehicle to a complete stop. When I was at a complete stop the vibrating intensified briefly before I was able to shut the car off. I waited 5 or 10 seconds and turned the car back on and it seemed to work fine. I completed the remaining 60-70 miles of my drive and have made a few 50-100 mile trips since without it occurring again so I thought it was a fluke thing until I got an email from the fleet company stating this is a known issue, I am scheduled to bring the car in for repair now. The incident occurred at approximately 12,000 miles.

The vehicle starts running rough, steering becomes loose, the wrench light comes on with the message 'check owners manual', then the engine stalls. This happens when the car is in motion. It has happened twice at low speed ~35 mph and once at high speed ~70 mph. We have had it in the Ford dealer twice. The first time they said there was no code so they couldn't do anything. The second time they said they reprogrammed the PCM with a recall 16B32. I will drop it off this morning for the 3rd time.
