2019 Ford Fusion Titanium with Eco-Boost was purchased on April 2015. On May 10th backed from the carport, switched to Drive; the backup camera would not release and continued to show the rear view on the touch screen. Drove approximately 2/3rds of a block. A grey image approx. 3x4 inches appeared with the top view of a car image in the center of the image. After a few seconds, the screen turned black, flashed alternatively turning grey and showing the rear view. After a few seconds, the screen turned light blue. Took the car to the dealer and made an appointment for May, 13. when the car was started at the dealer the screen returned to normal and the camera switched off and setting chosen setting returned. The dealer could find nothing wrong, but reset codes.
On the afternoon of May 13, the same problem occurred again in the same sequence, but I was not able at the time to go to the dealer. Turned the car off after a short trip and 15 minutes later started the car; camera functioned correctly. The accessory functioned correctly on May 14.
Update from May 15, 2019: On Wednesday morning, May 15, the problem returned. Took pictures of the screen and drove to dealer. The screen was blue and then it switched to rear view and back to blue. The tech worked on the problem for 90 minutes and said it was working correctly. The service writer said that if it malfunctioned again the module would be replaced. When asked if he meant the switch on the tranny selector, he said yes. On Monday I suggested to the tech that it might be the switch that activates the camera and when selecting Drive it doesn't turn the camera off so there would be competing circuits causing the trouble. He didn't think so because they didn't have any service bulletins on the switch. Conclusion: Since the switch doesn't have a service bulletin addressing it, the switch can't be the problem. Right! That would be the first item I would check since I used to be a mechanic. Troubleshooting is the art of eliminating all possibilities systematically.
Update from May 17, 2019: Friday, May 17, 2019, The back-up camera controller malfunctioned briefly and then the screen froze on an instruction. for pairing a device. The dealer spent 21/2 hours trying to fix it. Finally, they gave up and told me they were ordering the whole integrated control module that controls everything, gauges, lights, brakes, instrument, cluster, heat and air and whatever else it controls. Of all the cars that went down the assembly line on December 18, 2018, I bought the one that is screwed up. The new module is to be installed next week. Stay tuned.
Update from May 21, 2019:
Update from May 21, 2019: May 20, 2019. Started car and engine developed a miss. Then the tranny shifted erratically. Drove to the dealer. Tech found the problem. The MAP sensor had malfunctioned. Car is in the dealer's shop awaiting a new sensor and the control module. This May 21, 2019, and no car yet. Driving a loaner from the dealer.
Update from May 22, 2019: Picked up the vehicle on May 22, 2019. All issues were repaired. Defective parts and connectors caused the problems. The dealer did excellent work and was very apologetic for the trouble with the car. The problems were due to manufacturing. Riser Harnes Ford, Searcy, Arkansas, lived up to their reputation for great service. I am very pleased.
