I bought this car brand new from Landmark Ford in Springfield IL, in November of 2019. When this problem first started I didn't think anything of it as I assumed it was condensation in the exhaust system as I was not daily driving the car. When I would start the car white smoke would come from the tail pipe. Initially it wasn't bad but after a few weeks it got progressively worse, but the smoke only occurred upon start up. There was a point when large white clouds would billow out of the tailpipe clouding a large area around the car for 2-5 minutes before clearing up. At no time did the car misfire or throw any codes.
I then decided to take the car back to the dealership to be looked at and they informed be that the short block was cracked and was leaking coolant into cylinders 2 and 3. I was shocked as the car was not that old and had relatively low miles. They informed me it was a known issue but Ford would not cover the cost of repairs. The service manager informed me the 1.5L engines are notorious for this issue and they see it all the time, but there was no recalls. Thankfully I had an extended warranty as I was just a couple thousand miles outside of the manufacturers warranty.
Once I got the car back I joined a group on Facebook and the gravity of the issue became apparent as I seen so many people with the same engine complaining of the same issue. If you are looking at a Fusion buy one that does not have the 1.5L Ecoboost.
