It is a safety risk because the car is no longer drivable after the flex plate breaks. This could lead to dangerous situations if a vehicle is broken down in the road. There are no warning lights or messages that something is wrong, but a noticeable rattling sound was coming from the front end of the vehicle that lead to the diagnosis of a flex plate issue by the Ford dealership.
