I leased a brand new 2014 Ford Fusion Energi on 8/8/14 and initially loved it. It even has a braking coach to teach you how to get the most recharge to the battery while braking. However, after 10 days while I was traveling approximately 10-15 mph approaching vehicles stopped at a traffic light, the brakes on my vehicle would not stop the vehicle, no matter how hard I pressed, but rather just slowed it slightly. It felt like trying to stop a stalled vehicle with power brakes. Thank God I was traveling at such a slow speed otherwise someone could have been injured. The vehicle in front of me didn't sustain any damage other than a slightly bent tip of the muffler pipe that pierced my plastic bumper. My vehicle sustained damage to the front grill, hood, both front fenders as well as deploying the driver's air and knee bags. The metal on the front of the car, part of the grill I guess, was so thin my 7 year old son could bend it with two fingers, my toaster is made from stronger material. The damage to my car clearly does not exceed the value but my insurance company is declaring it a "constructive total loss" as it may be unsafe. I am receiving no further explanation. I am curious if any other individuals experienced similar problems. Please advise. Thank you.

An exact same accident with brake failure in a Fusion Energi. My wife was in stop and go traffic, on a slight downhill freeway. She was already applying the brakes a little, to get some of the EV charge back, when all stopped in front of her, she attempted to stop totally and the brakes did not work, the pedal went all the way to the floor and she crashed into the car stopped in front of her.
Our insurance company is taking care of the car and repair, I asked them to inspect the brakes.......this must have happened to others!!??
