Drove through a heavy rainstorm on the highway. I got off the highway and stopped at a red light. While stopped, the steering wheel shuddered, and I had no power steering. I drove slowly to a parking lot, shut off the car for a few minutes, restarted and had power for about 20 seconds. Repeated several times, but the problem persisted.

I allowed the car to rest overnight. In the morning I had power steering for about 2 miles, then it failed again. Brought car to dealer, who said they could not look at it for a week! Left the car there and had to fly to Florida instead of drive my $42,000 Ford. Ford called me while in Florida and said the steering was working, but the diagnostic said the power steering box had failed, and recommended replacement. Had the unit replaced because I could not risk this problem happening while driving on the highway.
