Driving home on expressway when there was a loss of power and no acceleration. Wrench codes appear. The car went into "limp home mode" and I was able to get off the expressway to a parking lot. I turned the car off then back on and it seemed to reset back to normal mode and was drivable. On the way home the check engine light came on. Had codes checked and showed throttle valve not closing. Codes were erased but driving home the wrenches came back with loss of power. Restarted the car and it returned to normal. I'll get it fixed monday/

My vehicle started showing the wrench light and would stop accelerating or having any push beyond what the battery would provide. When I turn the car off and turn it back on, the problem goes away. It has happened four times in two weeks. This appears to be the throttle body which was recalled on non hybrid models.

Car has started making a clattering sound while accelerating under load or going uphill. Then on a long trip the yellow wrench light started coming on, usually after an hour or so of driving. It reset whenever I shut the car off. When I returned, I took it to my dealer's service department...they had no information until the second day; then they said it needed an electric water pump and an idler assembly. After 3 days and $967, I took the car home. The next day, there was still clattering, and the yellow wrench light came on again (much sooner than usual). I took it back to the dealer while the light was still showing (I never turned off the car...). They kept it for the day and said that the wrench light had not reset properly and that they would reset it again. That evening when I drove the car home from the dealer, it still clattered on acceleration, and the wrench light cane on again!

Wrench light came on, said stop vehicle safely, next day my car would not start, I also had my steering wheel seize up when I was reversing. Scary to think if I would of been driving

On a one hour trip with 4 people in the car the wrench light came on. Checked the owners manual and it said to have vehicle checked. Performance didn't seem to be affected so we got to our destination and let it set for 2 hours. I checked the engine, fluids and tires and everything looked good. Started car and drove home with no wrench light on? Thought it might be a weird freak occurance, but a couple weeks later it happened again. So I realized that both days this happened it was in the 80s. I called the dealer where I bought it and they said the only way they could get a code that caused the wrench was if we brought it in with the light on. The car does not store the wrench codes? The dealer is 40 miles away and the light only comes on when were driving a good distance when the tempature is fairly hot. Needless to say this is not very convenent to acheive. I went ahead and changed the antifreeze for the engine and the electric motor with 50/50 premium antifreeze hopeing that the previous owner add to much water or antifreeze, throwing the mixture off. But the wrench is still coming on intermittently. Maybe someday it will come on while I'm driving by a Ford dealership and am not in any rush to get to my destination?

My wife was driving when it first occurred. She was driving on the busy interstate on a Saturday afternoon. Traffic was heavy traveling at speed limit or higher (60+) she noticed that the car was slowing down...she also noticed that even when she pressed to accelerate the car still slowed down until it was going about 25mph ON the FREEWAY. She took the first off ramp and called me. I told her to try turning the ignition off for awhile and restart it. It worked and she proceeded home on the less busy roads until she was almost home. To get to our house she had to drive uphill and the problem started again. The car literally crawled home 10mph.
The next day I took the car out and could not duplicate the problem. Tried several times during the week to get the same error icons and action...no cigar. Finally about a week later I was coming home climbing the same hill and the car duplicated her experience. Car slowed to a crawl. Wrench lights (both) came on. Car would only go 10mph until we reached home..approximately half mile. Next day I left my car to be repaired. The repair shop replaced the throttle body. It cost $600.
I called Ford and they would not cover the repairs. This is a very dangerous problem...and very likely will be responsible for a very serious accident in the future. It is a harrowing experience to be driving at freeway speeds and find that your car is slowing down and you have lost total control in a very dangerous situation. I did notice that when the car was slowing down that it was using the battery mode because it was draining rapidly.
