Fusion Hybrid

Takata recall-dropped my 2010 Fusion off on Wednesday after 4 months waiting for the part to be in. Asked to have an oil change done while it was being worked on. I go to pick it up Saturday and drop off the rental only to find my vehicle with no power steering, power steering fault, service advance trac system. I recently herniated a disc in my back and do not possess the strength to turn the wheel, rendering the vehicle unsafe to drive without power steering. My Fusion never left the service bay. I get a call Monday from sheehy Ford service, telling me that I need a new rack and pinion to the tune of $2400, due to the electronic steering being an enclosed unserviceable system. Sheehy refused to acknowledge that they caused this failure during the course of my oil change and recall replacement of the passenger side airbag. They quoted me $1049 for an after market rack and offered to pay for it if I could prove that it was something they did to cause the failure. After hours of speaking to the service manager and assistant manager they told me that they stopped paying for the rental when I did not drive my unsafe vehicle home. By Wednesday waiting for a return phone call about any other options and calling Ford because there was a recall for the power steering on 11S and 12S, as suggested by the service manager, I told them to go ahead an order the after market rack. Thursday they call to tell me its ready. As I run home to grab the keys for the rental, leaving it in front of my house with my phone, computer, and other items still inside, Ford had sent a tow truck to repossess the rental. County police being called, rental towed, cab to the dealer, pay the $1049, and end up getting charged over $300 by the rental company since Ford refused to pay while the power steering issue was being argued. Unsafe and absolutely appalling by sheehy and Ford.

Driving on interstate suddenly warning service power steering soon light came on and within seconds service power steering now & I lost power steering! very dangerous ! car is at Ford dealership now & before they even check car I'm told it will be a very expensive repair as if I had something to do with problem. This tells me it is a very common complaint, I called Ford motor before going & was given a case number to get me off the phone,

My daughters car electric steering assist motor locked up while driving on a major road, causing the car which was turning to almost go off the road into on coming traffic. The which was being driven by her boy friend was heading into accident, however, the young man was able to force the steering back working by breaking gear on the motor assist. If my daughter had been driving, she and her children would have been seriously injured or even killed. This defect has been know on this model for some time. What is it going take to get this fixed, another death of a family

The vehicle was being driven by my elderly mother for emissions, as I am currently deployed overseas. The service engine light came on and she lost all electric power-assisted steering (epas). Luckily my mother was able to steer the vehicle off the road and avoid colliding with anything but being 66 if she lost control anywhere else it could of been fatal. The vehicle was diagnosed and determined to have the same fault as listed in the recall for the 2011 Ford Fusion model.

A $300 dollar cost at a Ford dealership just to reset a module of the steering wheel is unjustified. Seems like it would be a manufacture's defect. My 18 year old daughter driving this car when all of a sudden the steering wheel just won't function to make a turn is a grave concern to a parent not to mention a health hazard to any driver. She was pulling out of a parking space and when she intended to turn the wheel to straighten out, the wheel became hard to turn. She could only move it forward back into the space. I feel it merits a recall now and not wait for a fatal case...

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid. While driving 55 mph, the service power steering now and electronic control system warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the transmission friction element G performance and the invalid data received from ABS control module codes were found. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 149,058.

Many Ford Fusion have a recall on the steering rack. 2010 does not. Mine is in shop for repair. Also, the transfer case went out. Costly repairs. I am not able to drive due to the steering. Already fixed the transfer case and sway bar.

I exited my car, with it running, went inside a store, when I reentered my car & placed it in reverse & backed out of my parking spot a red warning appeared on my dash "service power steering now". I then placed the car in drive. The power steering then completely failed and I was forced to muscle it home from there. The dash indicators now say "power steering fault" after some research I find that there has been a recall for the exact same equipment used in this car, but not for this model year. Why is there no recall for this model year? this is an extreme safety issue. Luckily I was not at speed when this failure occurred as I am not sure I would have been able to control the vehicle had that happened.

I parked my car on the driveway yesterday and when I went out to use it today I can not turn the steering wheel. Dash shows "power steering assist fault". after investigation on the internet, I see numerous complains and lawsuits regarding this exact issue. Thank god I was not driving the vehicle when the steering assembly failed. I understand Ford has voluntarily recalled model years 2011 through 2013 to repair this issue, however my 2010 VIN was not included. Apparently replacement of the failed ps assembly is the only option and the cost is over $2,000. Even after replacement, I don't feel confident the issue won't happen again base on numerous user comments that had their care repaired. I believe the NHTSA is investigating this issue and has over 850 filed complaints. What is the status of that investigation?

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid. While driving 15 mph and approaching a stop light, the contact depressed the brake pedal. In the process, the steering wheel seized, the vehicle stalled, and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to plantation Ford (707 North state road 7, plantation, fl 33317, (954) 908-6613) where it was awaiting diagnostic testing and repairs. The contact also called the manufacturer and was informed that the power steering failure was common, but a recall had not been issued. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 108,000.
