Fusion Hybrid

  • 75,000 miles
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid. While backing out of a driveway without warning, the power steering failed. The contact stated that the vehicle became difficult to operate. The contact stated that the vehicle was cycled off and then on; however, the power steering still failed to operate as intended. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

In coincidence with a flat front tire being fixed, the dash display began toggling between alerts 'service power steering now' and 'service advancetrac.' The power steering is not working, and the 'ready to drive' indicator on this hybrid is not on. A few minutes of internet searching turned up many similar reports, including Ford having recalled 2011-13 vehicles for the same issue, but not 2010 models with same system. (?) many of the reported incidents happened at driving speed, so maybe they're waiting for more crashes/injuries/fatalities...pretty sad if so.

While driving I received the following warning indicators on the dashboard "service power steering now" and "service advance trac" luckily I was driving on local roads and not at highway speeds. I cannot imagine the panic and danger posed to myself and others if I lost power steering on the highway. This is definitely a very serious hazard and should be recalled before someone looses their life.

When I started the car the steering wheel would not move. The dashboard indicated that the power steering assist had failed. Turned the car off and back on and it was normal. However on arriving home shocked to see the legions of people with 2010 Fusion complaining of this same exact problem with regularity since the new year. Don't feel like putting my family's as well as other strangers lives in danger by driving as many people claimed that the steering stopped while driving at high speeds. Ford should recall this model just as they have the 2011-2015 Fusion. I believe the parts are the same. Thank you eric

Fusion Hybrid

While driving to work, an error message was displayed indicating that the power steering needed to be serviced "now". after I parked the car, and returned to it several hours later, after starting it, the same error displayed and I noted that the vehicle had no power steering at all. Thankfully I was not driving at the time, on the interstate which is my normal route. I was able to get the car to a certified mechanic who advised that the issue was related to the epas motor mounted on the rack. I contacted Ford to inquire about a recall for this particular year model as I noted that there was a recall for the same make/model for 2011 and 2012 year models. The part number for replacement was identical to the 2011 and 2012 models that are under recall. The error message and sudden loss of power steering issue was identical as described. It's apparent to me that this is related to the same defect yet Ford refused to acknowledge it as such. This is a serious safety issue that Ford needs to address and include the 2010 model year in the same recall.

Fusion Hybrid

  • 67,000 miles
While driving approximately 35 mph on a city street the advance trac warning light came on followed by messages to "service advancetrac" and "service power steering now". I was able to drive home safely without any real difficulty, but when I attempted to move the car the next morning the power steering was inoperable and I had to have the car towed to the dealership because I felt it would be unsafe to drive due to steering unresponsiveness. Dreading the diagnosis and cost to repair.

Power steering stopped working while making a turn on the highway. Was able to avoid accident with the car beside me but was very difficult to steer the car in the direction needed. Car code came up to "service power steering immediately". very dangerous situation if not prepared when this happens!

I was pulling into a parking lot at low speed and the power steering failed and steering manually was almost impossible. I turned the car off and restarted it and the power steering worked. The next day I took the car to a repair shop and they could find no problem with the steering. They contacted Ford and were advised that the vehicle had no recalls relative to the steering failure. I contacted the Ford service department and was told that Fusion hybrids were being recalled for power steering failure, but my vehicle was not on the recall list. How can that be?

For the 4th time since March 2015, service power steering now and service advance trac system. All four times this happened will driving typically 30mph on city streets. Once happened on the highway. All four times the power steering would remain engaged until car was powered off at which point the vehicle did not have power steering. The 2nd and 4th times both occurred within weeks of the repair by a dealer. An additional time the same warnings occurred with the loaner/rental vehicle provided while my own vehicle was being repaired for the problem. Last repair (10 days ago) cost $1600.

Power steering is not working. Have taken to mechanic twice who cannot find anything wrong other than to reset computer. Steering works for a few days then fails again. Typically get warning light, then after vehicle is turned off, power steering no longer works. Have researched this issue, seems to be common among Ford Fusion since 2010.

Our 18 year old daughter was driving the car when the power steering ceased to function. She was able to stop and call us for help. We took it to a dealer and they said the whole power steering needed to be replaced. The car had just under 100,000 miles on it.

The power steering randomly gave out while I was driving. At first a light came on the dash board that said service power steering now. Then another light saying service advance track. After I parked my car turned it off and went to turn it back on I was no longer able to easily turn my steering wheel.

Fusion Hybrid 4-cyl

  • 84,000 miles
As we were driving about 35 miles an hour, the power steering repair light and the advancetrac repair light both suddenly came on. We were almost to our destination. After we stopped at our destination, the power steering was completely shut off in the vehicle. We had to have the vehicle towed and the repair charges (from the Ford dealer) are estimated to be $2391. For a car that's barely 6 years old and in otherwise great condition (~80,000 miles) to have a sudden failure that would lead to extremely expensive repairs is ridiculous. I worry, based on what I've read from other users online, that if we hadn't been about 1 minute from our destination that the power steering would have just shut off while we were driving, which would have been very dangerous on such a curvy road.

My power steering went out while my wife was driving the car with my kids in it. She totally lost all power steering making a turn, I took to the dealer and they said they had to replace the rack. About 3 months later it happened again while she was getting ready to turning in our driveway. I took back to the dealer they said it was fine just needed reprogrammed. It worked for about 6 months and now it is doing the same thing. I cant afford to take it to the dealer again so it is sitting in my driveway.
