My 2022 Ford Maverick developed a water intrusion defect caused by improperly sealed body panels under the hood cowl. This defect allowed water to enter the cabin, pooling in the passenger-side floor pan and creating a persistent, extremely strong interior odor. A chemical treatment temporarily masked the smell, but it returned and worsens over time. The vehicle cannot be reasonably operated without rolling down the windows due to the odor, raising health and safety concerns. The defect was difficult to replicate, but eventually the servicing dealer confirmed that the leak occurs when the vehicle is parked or driven at a downward incline with the rear elevated. The driver side door has cracked/broken welds near the hinge area. I have had it inspected by the dealer and confirmed the issue. There were no warning lamps however the door does flex and this area excessively, and there is an audible squeak during door opening/closing.

Two issues. There are times when I close my driver side door when I am outside the car with my keys in the ignition, car is on and the door locks. Luckily I am able to get in because I have Ford number combination unlock but this can be a serious issue for others. I also have been dealing with bad CV boot issues. Passenger side CV boot leaked and made the truck wobble at around 22k miles. Driver side CV boot is now having issues at 24k miles. This is problem is known in the forums and the mileage before CV goes bad can vary. Ford is currently fixing but no new parts or modifications are made to CV that will make the part better.

Weld points at driver side front door have cracked and disconnected making the door stop in operable condition. Same issue as the Escape 2020-2022, likely same welding method used. Using a temporary bungee cord to secure door from overswing situation.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was confirmed. The contact stated that the mold was a hazard to the health of any occupant while inside the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer unrepaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
