I have had a few problems with this Mustang such as squeak in the distributor, headlight switch shorting out for the 3rd time, and of course a defective fuel pump, but I love this car and wouldn't trade it for anything. All these problems enabled me to up-garde. Performance fuel pump and injectors, heavier gauge wire for the light switch, Audi style headlights, MSD ignition for better performance. During the down time I even added headers, off road H-pipes, flowmaster exhaust and power chip.

When commuting to and from work, all of the sudden with no warning, I lose all my RPM's. Basically my car shuts off with out actually going dead. It lasts for about 1 second. Today however, it lasted for several seconds. I am extremely concerned my car will die in the middle of the freeway, a very dangerous circumstance especially for my personal saftey. Please advise.

Car was a super reliable car for years. Then one day while driving to work it would randomly shut off then restart. This happened for quite sometime. Then it would not want to restart after being shut off then restart. Had to wait for atleast five minutes. Then it got real bad it would die then restart with a huge backfire. After being towed home by a friend it restarted and ran. Did some reasearch and found out the pick up coil in the distrubutor was bad. It gets hot and shuts down and cools off then is able to work once its cool enough. The part itself is cheap but you must disasemble the distrubutor to swap in the new part. Just as easy to replace the whole distributor. Just gets weak the older it gets. Though i had a same year convertable Gt with way less miles and it went out in the same way. So i hope this helps.
