About a year after buying my 2005 mustang I had my back wheels lock up on me. I pulled into the ford place and they charged me $70 bucks to unlock the wheels. I was told that the e-brake cables had froze and that the warrenty did not cover to fix it. The cost would be around $500. The gentleman said it should be a recall but was not at that time. I filed a complaint with ford and still has not been recalled. I do not use my e-brake because I can not pay to have wheels unlocked every time.

The rubber boot on the parking brake line wears out early. Water gets in and the line freezes. When the line freezes you can't release the cable and your rear brakes are locked.
The new lines from Ford are revised and don't have this issue.
It was only about 3 hours of work to replace the lines and was very easy... but I have found many people that had issues with this the first year they bought the car new. Should of been recalled from Ford since its a part of the brake system.

Bought the car used in 2009 with only 15,000 miles on it. Drove it a friends house about 75 miles away and when ready to leave that evening the car was extremely hesitant to move...finally figured out that the emergency brake was stuck on, but the handle was released. Good thing we have the capability of checking online from a phone. Found out that the boot on the emergency brake often holds moisture in it and when sitting it will freeze up and the only way to get it going again is to have it unfrozen, not an easy task in the middle of the street though. Anyways, i am unable to use the brake when it is cold, otherwise it will freeze up again. I have seen this issue numerous places on other forums now.

This 2005 Mustang is a piece of crap. The emergency brake does not work when the weather is cold. Just kind of flips up and down does not secure at all it is extremely annoying since this car is a standard.

Had a accident due to parking brake not holding....was changing oil and the car rolled on my arm....I had brake set but didn't hold....took car for inspection and the told me it had faulty cables.....I have no idea why ford hasn't recalled these cars...very dangerous.
