Bubbling paint from aluminum corrosion on Ford aluminum hood. Car is a 2007 mustang shelby GT. Ford replaced hood at 3k miles. Dealer repaired twice, but back again. Brought car in at 80 K. Dealer said it is a Ford problem and they were washing their hands and not repairing again.
Ford said screw you, and now the car has 110K miles, and I have to practically give the car away when I go to sell it. How does Ford get away with this? I guess just like Landrover did when they made those aluminum engines that dropped cylinder liners making customers replace the engine.
I'll never buy another Ford product! They absolutely SUCK!

The paint on the front of my '07 Mustang's hood has been blistering for several years. I am the original owner, the car has been garage-kept, and I've taken meticulous care of the vehicle since new. I originally discovered the paint blisters on the underside of the hood early on (within the warranty period). However, since the blistering first occurred along the metal seams, I mistook it for sealant, which I assumed had been applied at the factory. Over a period of several years, I've noticed the blistering was increasing in size and progressing along the seams. At that point, I began to research what was going on. It then became apparent that my car had the symptoms of a problem Ford had issued a TSB about. The cause of the problem is that the manufacturer bonded two dissimilar metals (steel and aluminum) without properly insulating them. The result is galvanic corrosion, which is occurring under the paint. When I returned to the dealer where I purchased my car, they informed me that it was outside of the warranty period. Had I properly identified there was a problem at first, it would have definitely been before the warranty expired. Several body shops have declined to repaint the hood since they are convinced the problem will just return within months. The only solution offered to me is to have the entire hood replaced at a significant cost. The main complaint that I have is that Ford issued the TSB in regard to this problem prior to the manufacture of my vehicle. I believe they should take responsibility and replace the hood at their cost. Other than this issue, I enjoy the vehicle and would like to keep it for a number of years.

I take pride In my stang, but when Ford cuts corners and doesn't admit their mistakes and becomes cheap, that is when I draw the line. A few months after I purchased my mustang I noticed the paint blistering under and on top of the rim of the hood, So I took it to my insurance broker who diagnosed It as a minor deductible, I only paid 100.00 for the repair. This was in February of 2015. as of July 26th, 2017 the repainted hood is blistering again in the SAME position. So I took it back to ford where It was repainted. The bastards told me that they do not have a warranty on painted parts and decline that their was any damage to the hood when there clearly was. IF you decide to repaint it, do not bother, because the problem will rear Its ugly head again, and I want to thank The Staff at Dave Sinclair ford For not honoring a warranty on a paint job with a 25,000 car. As long as I am walking on this earth I will NEVER buy a ford product again.

I noticed that the hood of my mustang had paint that was chipping off and after a closer look almost the entire length of the front of the hood has pain bubbling up and when it is chipped it has corrosion under the paint. I have been sick for a few years now and have not been able to work so painting the hood is not within my budget and actually I feel that Ford should have to fix the problem. I love my car and it is very frustrating to see my car looking the way it does now.

Noticed a small area of blistering paint on the front edge of the hood.
Had a body shop look at it so I could get an estimate to repair it and they showed me the problem is under the entire lip of the hood and the cause is the paint poorly reacting with the aluminum hood.
Absolutely no signs of any body work ever being done on the hood so this is clearly a manufacturing defect and/or design flaw.
Ford should take responsibility for this problem they introduced in their designs.

The paint in the area near the seam under the front of the hood has started to blister and peel. The blistering is moving to the top of the hood and impacts the cars general appearance. I have read that Ford had a problem with iron contamination of the aluminum hoods. I have wire brushed the blistered paint and the paint blistering area is now pretty significant. Not sure if I will get the entire hood repainted or replaced. Either will probably be a substantial expense. This is my first Mustang and I really enjoy the performance, I have owned numerous F-150's and never encountered such an issue.

Paint blistered and chipped off the front edge of the hood. Took it to a auto body shop and was told it can't be repaired because oxidation will keep coming back. This is apparently a well known defect with many Ford vehicles.

I am a ford guy and have Fords all my adult life. This corrosion on the hood is a real issue for me. I keep my car in the garage, it doesn't get driven in rain and its cleaned every week. When I pop the hood to show off the motor the corrosion is staring you in the face. It really makes Fords quality look really bad. I was going to fix this issue but its about the principle of the matter. I wash this area by hand every week but it is getting larger. There are 2 spots that are about 4 to 5 inches long and about 2 inches wide under the hood. The corrosion has moved to the
from side of the lip just above the grill, but I sanded and touched those spots up but it is still coming through

Just sad. I liked my car, went to Ford right away when I noticed the bubbling and they wouldn't do anything about it, over two years old. Now it is just ugly and everyone notices it right away. Quote over $4,000 to get fixed so it will just have to stay ugly.

Hood very bad on a 2007 Mustang with 57000 miles. Always garaged. Ford needs to make good. Cost $450 to repair.

Bought the 2007 GT Mustang used in 2014 with 23,000 miles. When washing noticed paint blistering on underside edges of hood. This car is absolutely flawless which makes the paint blistering annoying. Anticipate it will get worse over time which makes the car's value a concern as the problem progresses. Ford shroud replace the hood without charge as it appears the blistering is an issue with Mustang owners.

Just recently acquired the 2007 Mustang. Needed some minor work done.. When I took it for estimates...that's when the bubbling paint was brought to my attention....was told by 3 body shops that this was a common problem with 2007 Fords....the car has low miles. I have other vehicles (none Fords) and I have never had a problem with the paint bubbling.....not sure what my course of action should be.....from what I've been reading.... Ford knows about this issue....but doesn't want to step up......this could be why many people I know would never buy a Ford....I have the original sticker and when it was purchased from the dealer the msrp was $28,580! Wow! Ford has the nerve to charge almost 30 thousand dollars for a car and can even bother to get the paint right! Shame on Ford! People are not made of money to fix a default that was known about before these cars rolled out of the factory.

My car is garage kept and driven in the rain on a limited basis. My hood is black and it has paint blistering around the front edges of the hood and around the hood pin holes in the hood. The hood is aluminum and the hood pin screws are aluminum too. How does aluminum rust? I've read Ford is aware of the problem but does not want to fix the problem.

Bought my 2007 mustang in 2008. a year later the paint started blistering on front/back bumpers. I took it to a local dealership & they took pictures & then told me there wasn't anything they could do, that they had not had any other complaints other than mine. I was & still am disappointed that they wouldn't even consider trying to address the problem nor did they seem to care! don't think I will ever purchase another ford again.

The hood is blistering. Contacted Carsmetics, and it will take $450 to fix it. BUT, the hood is aluminum, so they can't guarantee it. Some people need to get it fixed every couple of years. Yikes! I am going to join class action lawsuit against Ford if possible.

Inquired about the oxidation and found that Ford will only fix the problem if u are the original owner and it was in the original warranty period even though it was noted by Ford that they knew of this problem at the manufacturing site

I have wanted a Ford Mustang for a long time and looked around for almost 2 years for one. .I finally found one I could afford and just my luck I had to get one with one of the faulty aluminum hoods and substandard paint jobs.. Now after having this one for awhile and finding out about all the issues with the cars (peeling paint, blistering hood, clanking suspension) I understand the old saying to be careful what you wish for because it may come true.
I have never owned a Ford before, and after this experience probably never will again. If they found out about the issue with the hood prior to 2004 when the dealer alert was issued and continued to manufacture cars with the same materials and methods shouldn't that be enough to show their neglect and liability for the faulty hoods and paint jobs.
If they did not try to correct the problem when they did find out about it, then it is only natural for them not to claim responsibility for it now. It makes all the bad things I have ever heard about a FORD that made me hesitant to buy one seem so true, and one of the best reasons to never make that mistake again. Even Takata is trying to right their faulty product by recalling the airbags in Ford vehicles, but will Ford do the same. Not FORD. Yet Ford will make money replacing the Takata airbags in their vehicles, while they turn their heads on their own customers problems caused by their neglect.

I purchased the car new in late 2006 and it was beautiful. By about 2013, I started seeing small areas of paint blistering on the hood which continued to get worse. I took the car to a body shop to see what they had to say and was told the only fix was to replace and repaint the hood due a problem that Ford was aware existed.
I contacted Ford to see about a recall or replacement program. Ford said they provided no assistance for this issue and the cost of repair was mine.
