I purchased the 2008 Pony Package Premium Mustang in September 2011 with 2,000 miles. The Shaker 500 stereo with integrated timer after shutoff failed. The stereo would turn on and cycle through the CD changer randomly. After a period of time the stereo no longer cycled CD's. The system would, on its own, cause significant drain on the battery. The alternator could not keep up with the battery drain and failed. It took 16 months to determine the actual problem, being the Shaker 500 stereo. There is ample research on the issue on the internet. I first replaced the battery and in three days it died. No output. Jumped the battery and it would run as long as the jumpers remained hooked up. Check drain with volt meter. Bought a charger and charged the battery. It worked for three days and died again. Replaced battery under warranty and checked the output of the alternator. It was subpar at best. Replaced the alternator and drive belt and removed the Shaker 500 Stereo. End of issue. After 8 months, still no issue. I replaced the stereo with premium GPS touch Screen Stereo from Crutchfield. It has been a pleasure to own since. Totals spent on an issue Ford knows about and refuses to address with the Shaker 500 Stereo system, $1157.00. Worth every penny.

first time it happened I got the battery jumped and we bought a new 1.
2nd time it happened on 12/27/13 got it jumped and took it 2 the store and the guy would only charge the battery said it can be charged.
a week later it got cold and I went out and started the car on Friday & let it run for a least 20 minutes. and then went out on sunday and it would not start.

Beginning in about Feb of 2011 my car would be dead when it was very cold outside...not a problem I just made a point to park it in the garage more...but as the months contiuned it began getting worse and worse and didn't matter when it was so in June 2011 I bought a new battery..all was well for about 3-4 months then every once in a while I would need a jump start...also between 2009-2011 I had to change the back blinker lights about 3 times...all of them, each. Also I would have a problem where the radio would just be out, a quick out and in of the fuse would remedy this. ALSO my fuel gague just stopped working all of a sudden one day after filling up with gas....but my main complaint is the battery..after replaceing with a new one in June of 2011 all went pretty well for about a year and then it started happening again..mainly when the car wasnt driven, like if it sat over a weekend when we didn't go anywhere...then it got to be a weekly thing of having to jump start it...then it got to where even it did start in the morning for work, there was no guarantee that it would start at lunch..so TWO years into a new battery we replaced it again...this time it only took ONE MONTH to come out to head to work and it was dead. Scheduled it with the Ford dealership to have them find the electrical problem to fix it...80.00 and a day and half later, I was told there wasn't anything they could find and I should DRIVE IT MORE... THAT is a ridiculous answer!! There is clearly a problem with a short or some wiring somewhere...I only owe 6 more months on it and I still really LOVE her so i don't want to trade her in...but I am at my wits end...anyone have problems like this?

I love this car, it's been a life long dream, but I also want dependability. This happened in March 2016 also. It had a new battery installed in Aug. 2015. We keep it in a heated garage and started it in February. In March it was dead. Took it to a car cruise today and when we started to leave it was acting weird. It wouldn't start. The CD player started cycling through, the clock went to 12:00 and the radio started playing an AM station, and I had the car off and had pulled the key out. I had started to open the door when it finally quit. I saw in these complaints post that its the Shaker stereo system causing it. I bought the car with 12,000 miles on it and it only has 13, plus now. Happy Halloween ! The wife thinks it's possessed.
