Mustang Convertible 5.0L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

Bought new in April 2011. Great Car. This car has never been north for trips to NJ, VT and NY in the winter. It is kept in a carport and is well maintained and it's never been in an accident. The top is still is in excellent shape. I noticed the rear panel above the bumper getting discolored and a little rough. It has really gotten much worse. I also noticed the bubble in the paint on the passengers side front edge of the hood. This has also gotten much worse.

This is our second Mustang Convertible. We had a red 2005 GT that sounded like the top was down all the time. Other than that it was also a Great car. We also bought a new 1996 Crown Victoria LX with the handling package that was probably the best car we ever owned. I sold it to my neighbor three years ago with 275,000 miles on it. It was also well maintained and kept in the same carport. In fact it was out in the sun much more than my wife's cars. It had some fading of the paint but no rust or bubbles. I have not contacted Ford about these problems but do not feel they are aware of their shortcomings in the paint department.

I only buy USA Made cars (my crown vic was Canadian Built) Close enough for me. I am sure Henry Ford would not be happy with his company's present attitude toward customer relations nor their politics. I would be interested in any civil suits filed against Ford. At some point in time I will probably replace the hood and have the car repainted. After all it is only nine years old. I had my crown vic for 21 years before selling it to a neighbor.

Like many had the same issue of bubbling at the edge of the hood. Took it to a local body shop. Owner was very knowledgeable about the Ford aluminum painting problem. He said that there is a special way to paint aluminum and Ford probably just cheaped out on this. He fixed it by repainting the whole hood, properly. That was 2 years ago and I have zero signs of the bubbling.

Ford knew about the paint blistering and peeling on the aluminum hoods it is so obvious. They refused to fix the problem and are very arrogant about it. The only place the paint blisters is on the front edge and almost all the complaints are exactly the same. Even if you get it fixed the problem will come back. It is a design fault and they won't own it. I will never own another Ford.

After conversations with local Ford dealer acknowledging the problem, Ford told me to pound sand. The estimated cost to replace hood is $2300. Repair and repaint is not recommended. A used hood might start peeling in week. Shame on Ford for not standing behind their products. I won’t be buying another Ford again!

Very disappointed with this common problem with Ford Mustang hoods. Paint started flaking and bubbling at front tip of hood a few years ago. I am contemplating buying a new hood and painting rather than repainting stock hood. I was hoping Ford would acknowledge this common defect and offer assistance to keep their consumers happy with their product. 😠

Understand from all of the internet complaints that this MANUFACURING and QUALITY CONTROL problem

that FOMOCO refuse to rectify (at any level). I would be totally satisfied if FORD would REPAIR and WARRANTY a repaint of existing hood OR install an ALL STEEL and PAINTED color match, but I suppose that either is a pipe dream. If a clash action suite is in the works what is the time line for settlement.

The paint on both front corners of hood, top and bottom blistered and falling off. Not the original owner of Mustang but have extended coverage. Was told that this wasn't covered. Repair shop advised me of the problems Ford had with lack of proper treatment prior to painting the hood.

Called dealer and they said warranty is only for 3 years .. I had same problem on my 2006 convertible--. hood looked like sh*t.. I traded it in for my 2011 thinking I wouldn't have the same problem and now I have the same nightmare...I am the second owner and original owner kept it in garage and I have rented a storage unit cause I have no garage ..there is no reason for paint to peel.. FORD should be replacing all of our f-----d up hoods....

Submitted two claims for Ford for corrosion but due to no perforation doesn't classify as warranty. Maintained my exterior with appropriate waxing and washing products. There as also a technical service bulletin for Ford regarding this in 2004.

I'm disappointed to find my hood having flaking paint problems and this is my first new car purchase. I baby my investment by washing, claying and waxing the paint to make it last the lifetime to only find my car having paint issues with the aluminum hood. I have had great experience with the quality of Ford products and this only makes me question my product loyalty toward them. I just want my investment to last a long time and want my confidence in Ford to return.

2011 Ford Mustang paint bubbling and chipping. Ford corp. refuses to help in any way. They know about this problem and refuse to do anything to help. I've spent more time at the dealer where they took pictures and sent them to corporate, but to no avail. How do so many Mustangs have the exact same problem and they refuse to do anything about it? My friend was all set to by a Shelby and I told him to save his money and buy anything but a Ford. Sucks that American made product is so crappy. No wonder people are going for imports.

As with everyone else, Ford will not stand behind their product....The only recourse is to replace the hood with a aftermarket carbon fiber hood....Will submit the bill directly to Ford Motor Company....(which I know they will ignore)...please add me to any class action suit.

This car has been a garage queen it's whole life. It has always been kept clean. There is no reason on earth why there should be surface rust showing up along the front lip of the hood. I am just heart broken, because this car was my baby, and I loved driving it. Everyone who that saw it commented on what a great looking car it is. Now I am just sick looking at it and knowing that in no time it will look like a piece of junk. This happened to cars in the 60s and 70s. And Ford has willingly and knowingly continued to manufacture these cars with the same issue. I see the lawsuit was for up to 2007, but the issue continues on to this day. Eight years later, and they are still foisting this junk on their customers. I was really excited about Ford and the quality of the car when I first purchased it. However, today my opinion is completely opposite. They do not care about their customers. It makes me so angry to know they are taking advantage of their customers like that. I will no longer be a Ford customer. And I will make sure that everyone I know is aware of this mess. I am going to post photos on Facebook with commentary. Hopefully it will go viral.

I recently bought a used 2011 Mustang Convertible color Race Red. After bringing the car home I noticed on the front of the hood some of the paint bubbling. I am not a happy camper. This needs to be fixed by the Ford Company! It's a great looking car. But for the bubbling paint. JUST FIX IT FORD!!!!

Just bought my first Ford a used 2011 Ford Mustang with 7,641 miles on it. I bought the car in April of 2013 I noticed the spots on the front edge of the hood in the summer of 2014. I have been taking my car for service to a Ford dealer near my home in Hampton NH. I asked about the issue of the hood and if their were any recalls on this issue and he told me, no! Only now have I been finding out about this thru the internet. And it sounds like Ford knew about an issue with this very problem..

paint flaking off front end of hood paint flaking off front end of hood paint flaking off front end of hood paint flaking off front end of hood paint flaking off front end of hood

Paint is blistering and bubbling on front edge of hood. Ford refuses to repair under warranty. According to Ford Customer Care (less), blistering paint does not fall under perforation of warranty. Appears to be a manufacturer defect to me and cost estimate is $1100 to have repaired. Many other Ford owners are having this same issue. Check the web for bubbling paint.

Any other recourse?

How does Ford expect to keep returning customers with poor quality products.

Mustang GT 5.0L V8

I just purchased a 2011 GT used off a family member. There is a bubble under the paint on the tip of the hood. The bubble travels around the whole lip of the hood, and is the size of 2 nickels next to each other. The car has had a 3m clear bra installed since 3,xxx miles. The fact it had a clear bra, and still bubbled is proof it's 110% Ford's fault. The fact they won't cover this under corrosion warranty is really a dick move. It's corrosion causing the issue, plain and simple. The hood will never rust through because it's aluminum. If Ford won't honor their warranty, they're gonna have a lawsuit on their hands.
