I purchased the car new and took pristine care of it as I always have with every car I’ve owned. I wash it weekly and fully detail it using premium car wax with poly additives 4 times a year. I noticed the paint on the hood start to fade, blister and peel last part of the second year. Took it to the dealer and was told that the warranty didn’t cover normal wear and tear and that it was caused by the hot sun living in Phoenix AZ. Unbeknownst to me at the time that Ford was knowledgeable of their problem for some time and lied to me with their BS response.

I don’t understand why our government doesn’t have an effective committee or appointed group to help when hard working American tax paying citizens are directly screwed over by auto manufactures or any merchant for that matter who fails to stand behind their product or service and make it acceptable to the purchaser. This matter is even more serious involving high cost products such as cars and trucks. Personally I see it just as criminal as directly stealing a persons money in a theft. Let’s face it if the taxpayer didn’t purchase anything the economy would dry up causing all kinds of problems. Why does the government protect car manufactures, airlines and rail transportation and not the major key factor in this unfair merry-go-round the taxpaying citizen and buyer? I guess I’ll never understand it nor find a satisfying reason.

Yet another of many Mustang owners who've got paint peeling on the hood. The dealer says it can't be covered under warranty unless it's actually causing holes to rust through the body. FORD YOU KNEW THIS WAS A PROBLEM ALL THE WAY BACK IN '04 AND YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING.

After many years of not purchasing an American made car, I realize now that US car manufacturers still cannot compete with the Japanese or German car manufacturers. I thought FORD was in better shape but apparently in this day and age their quality and customer service is still years behind.

The following is my e-mail chain in response to FORD's stance that they will not cover any repairs due to "out of warranty" even though this issue is a clear manufacturing defect, as many others are experiencing, as well.

MY INITIAL RESPONSE AFTER RECEIVING AN E-MAIL FROM FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Good Afternoon Frank, Thank you for your follow up e-mail. The truth of the matter, although this vehicle was not purchased from Schultz Lincoln Ford but from another dealership, I do have this vehicle serviced at Schultz. Tom was the service writer I originally spoke with regarding the issue with the paint quality on the hood but he was not very receptive to advocating on my behalf due to my purchasing the vehicle from another dealership. My scheduled appointment unfortunately, Tom happened to be the service writer who wrote up the defect information, although I did not receive a copy of what was written. In any case, I am not here to discuss the concern with Tom's lack of good customer service but to address the issue with the paint bubbling, blistering and peeling in different areas around the perimeter of the hood. The rest of the car's paint quality is pristine so obviously it's just localized to the hood. I am not sure if the quality of the pictures you are looking at and I have attached a couple to show significant defects in two areas. I do have other pictures and can send them, as well. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly on my cell at 914-925-2418. Thank you again for your concern with resolving this matter. I look forward in hearing back from you.

I am a Ford Customer Service Manager assisting Angela in regards to your vehicle and have reviewed the pictures in reference to the hood of your vehicle. At this time I am awaiting a call back from Tom at the dealership to discuss the situation and cost on the repairs required. I then will review for any assistance that can be provided and either I or Angela will email you to let you know on the resources available to us. Again, I am very sorry for the issue and will do everything in my power to assist you.

SECOND RESPONSE AFTER RECEIVING DENIAL OF COVERAGE FROM FORD: -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Angela:

I am fully aware of the stated warranty that Ford Motor Company has implemented but unfortunately I am not pleased with this response.

There is clear evidence that an underlying defect with the initial preparation of the front hood bare metal that was performed for the initial coat of paint primer and or top paint coat. The paint condition on the rest of the car is pristine which only proves this is a localized defect of the hood only.

As you are aware there is a pending lawsuit against Ford Motor Company for this exact problem where the paint on the hood perimeter is bubbling, blistering, peeling and rusting along the edges. I am not the only person making this claim it appears.

Many thousands of dollars was paid for this vehicle that now as a result of this continuing worsening condition will lessen the overall value of the car.

As a result, I have no choice but to address your companies decision and direct a formal complaint to the New York State Attorney General’s Office. I have a family member who is a NYS Supreme Court Judge who will be able to direct my complaint to the necessary personnel for review and advise.

I am hoping your immediate decision is changed and Ford Motor Company will resolve this issue expeditiously without my taking further legal action.

I respectively await for your response.

Best Regards,

Paul S. Berliner

I bought a new 2012 Ford Mustang V6. I noticed that about 2 years after purchasing the car that the paint had started bubbling on the hood. I drive a lot, so I crossed the 60k warranty coverage. I took the car to the dealer and they said that its no longer under warranty. I had bought the extended warranty when I purchased the car. The dealership told me that the extended warranty was an extension of the bumper-bumper warranty that came with new Ford vehicles. It was an absolute lie!!! I also called Ford corporate and have not had any luck with the incompetent mutts that work there. Will not but a Ford again. I've discouraged many of my friends from purchasing Ford's as well.

All Ford had to do was seal the weld... Now I have to pay money from MY pocket to get my hood completely redone. My car was only a few months old when this started happening. Honda recalled some of their cars that were 5+ years old for paint problems. Why can't Ford do that?!

Here in lies the problem. The dealer sold me the vehicle and of course offered the extended warranty. I normally would not get the warranty but the dealer stated that the extended warranty was an extension of the bumper to bumper warranty. That was a lie.

I don't live near the beach, this is my fair weather car, it is hand washed and has never been put away with a bug spattered on it. Needless to say - garage kept.

Regretfully, I will never buy American again! I'm 45 have never owned a foreign car, but now firmly believe that are own car company lacks integrity.

paint peeling off hood

I went to the dealer's body shop to get an estimate on repair and was then told that the problem was due to problems with the aluminum/iron contamination during the car assembly and that a new paint job would only be a Band-Aid. Brought problem to dealer and was told they would document and send to Ford for resolution ... 3 months later I contacted the dealer, and nothing had been done. On the 2nd visit, they documented the problem and said it would be submitted to Ford. The result was that Ford denied the claim because it was beyond the 3 year term. When I researched the aluminum corrosion issue I found that sending a complaint to Ford Customer Service might elevate the claim, I sent a message to Deysha at Ford. She was very nice and sent me the contact info for my area's Ford Customer Service representative, Susan. She let me know she was checking into the problem but that the only real solution is to replace the hood. When I heard back, she informed me that: "the cost to replace the hood of your Mustang would come to approximately $2,483.32. I can assist with 50% of this repair but not to exceed $1,241.66 in the unlikely event that additional repairs are needed. I have contacted Curtis at Apple Ford and advised him of my offer. I can honor this offer for up to 30 days from today." I cannot afford to put out money to fix this and feel that a problem originating in the assembly plant, which has been well documented, should not be covered completely by Ford. If this were a problem with the mechanics of the car, it would have been fully covered.

This is a common problem, apparently, with this car. Other cars I've seen in public have it. When you call Ford, you have to have a dealership look at it, inspect it - then file with corporate to see if it will be repaired - when it's a defect! Photos won't suffice. Well, working 2 jobs and commuting does not make this an easy process. I do, like my car otherwise.

I bought two 2012 Mustangs, same dealership. Mine and my husbands. My Mustang is a V6 his is a GT. I drive a good distance back and forth to work on the interstate so my warranty ran out quickly.

Both vehicles have bubbling paint in the exact same spot on the hood. His is under warranty so no issue it was fixed but due to the fact mine was 2 thousand miles past the warranty no go. Finally my husband called Ford corporate and after many weeks of almost promises we get down to well you pay the first $150 and we will pick up the rest of the tab including replacing the stripes on the hood which will be removed to paint the hood. Okay was not crazy about the $150 on a paint job less than 2 years old but in the spirit of cooperation ok! Oh and lets not forget the costs of the rental car for the week.

Then I get the follow up call and offer of I pay $350 out of pocket and a rental cost so a total of about $600 out of pocket for a paint job that should be good at only 2 years old. Ford admitted to me they are aware of this issue, the salespeople, the body shop people they all know. Ford corporate knows yet they continue to sell cars that will knowingly peel and reduce value not to mention rust factor issues and no before you ask I do not live in a state that uses salt on the road. South Florida has no need.

So now I am stuck with a pretty mess of a car with no value to anyone. Can't sell the thing with the high miles as I have only been paying on it for two years and do not have the available funds at this time to repaint my hood or replace my hood. Comes down to bad customer care and service and no regard for Ford loyal customers. Any company who knowingly sells cars with contaminated paint and then refuses to fix the issue warranty or no warranty should be run out of business.

I would like to see a class action lawsuit passed. I saw on the web that there is one that has been started and waiting for a judge to pass. I am refusing to pay the $350.00 I told them I am willing to consult an attorney and I will be telling any and all about this issue and to NOT purchase any Ford vehicles unless they make this right.

Two years ago, I bought a brand new 2012 Grabber Blue Mustang Club of America edition and it has been garage kept. Live in Florida so do not deal with salt on roads. Noticed paint bubbling on the hood this past weekend while washing the car. Called the local dealer and asked if there was an issue with the paint on Mustangs. Was told "Yeah they have problems because the hood is aluminum on the top and steel underneath". He said they have seen several and it should be covered under your bumper to bumper warranty. Told him I have 45,000 miles on my car so my bumper to bumper is gone but wouldn't it be covered under the corrosion part of the warranty. His response was " well it has to be eaten clear through before they consider it covered under corrosion".

Really, this is all Ford can do? Especially after I've done research and found out about all the complaints similar to mine. I have previously owned Mustangs before,as well as a Thunderbird, and a 2013 Boss 302, but now FORD, YOU JUST LOST A CUSTOMER !!!!!

After getting a quote from the Dealer for $600 for an issue that they were very familiar with. The vehicle is only 18 months old and only driven in the state of Florida. My last 4 vehicles have been F150's bought new and kept 4-5 years driven the same way and never had a bit of corrosion when they were traded in.

I find on the internet that this has been a problem since 2006 or earlier when the Ford cars and SUV's went with aluminum hoods. If this is not repaired to my satisfaction by the Dealer, I will crank up another blog and track my efforts. Stay tuned.
