The 2013 Mustang (with 67,071 miles) transmission (6R80) downshifted to 1st gear at highway speeds exactly like the F-150 recall and would also shift out of gear. It could have been catastrophic, but was able to keep control of the vehicle. Was able to get the car home and only drove it to the dealership after this incident. The dash showed the airbag light, no mileage and the wrench similar to the F 150 issue, which pictures are available. Teh vehicle would also sporadically act as if it was in neutral. The vehicle was taken to a Ford dealership and the transmission diagnosis showed codes P0722, P0731. The repair was extremely expensive and should be recalled similar to the F-150 faulty transmission. I have a 2013 Ford Mustang V6 coupe with Automatic transmission. I purchased the car Certified Pre Owned through Ken Grody Ford in Carlsbad, CA with Less then ~11,000 miles on it in 2/2014. I have been complaining of a jerk/ knock at ~ 1-1.6 RPM-??s when idling & driving in stop and go traffic/ off ramps/ on ramps and parking lots - it appears to come from the transmission area. Fast forward to complaining over the years during service intervals ~ 2x a year for for the works service - oil/ lube/ etc, dealer did a Transmission Control Module computer reset & advised to monitor for symptoms in 11/2020. As covid was present, the car wasn-??t driven much during. However the knock/ jerk between 1-1.6 RPM-??s has always been present, even returning after the TCM reset. Dealership was notified, and neglected to return calls or follow up. Fast forward to 9/15/2022, after 3-4 wks of calling and leaving voicemails to no avail from the dealership service department manager/ dealership. I set up an appointment for 9/15/2022. On 9/5 & night of 9/14/22, the car instrument cluster lighted up with all notifications, and dashes for the total mileage on the car, orange wrench light - indicating Ford Limp mode, and low fuel popup (car was just fuels 1 hr prior to driving from Costco for grocery) I left and drove up a hill when this occurred as I was going 40-45 miles per hour the speedometer dropped to 0 MPH & the car barely drove beyond 5-15 MPH. I pulled over at the nearest local street from The hill parked the car and powered off the engine. I had a OBDII Tool that indicates: Global OBD FORD. P0720(1 / 1) Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit. Severity 2 of 3. I finally heard back from dealer after calling & escalating between 9/15-9/19, once I got ahold of the customer relations managers assistant she said the service manager/ customer relations manager would call back by today 9/20/22. The service mgr states I am out of WTTY & need to cover cost of repair myself. TSB for trans. is attac

Vehicle suddenly downshifted on it's own from highway speed and set several malfunction indicator lamps, nearly caused a highway speed collision. Checked codes afterwards and P1500 Vehicle Speed Sensor malfunction code was present, this is a known issue with this type and make of vehicle but this vehicle has somehow been omitted from a safety recall.

  • 112,000 miles
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that twice while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle began to jerk as the vehicle independently downshifted without warning. After each failure, the contact was unable to accelerate above 35 MPH. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the battery and other engine parts were replaced; however, three days later, the failure recurred. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V190000 (Power Train, Exterior Lighting). The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer where she was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

This an update to November 13, 2021 NHTSA ID NUMBER: 11440318 The problem continued and I could not risk an accident so I brought it to my Ford dealer who was able to replicate the problem and diagnosed it as failed sensors in the "Molded Lead frame". The work was performed(copies attached) and there has been no recurrence of the problem. The same problem that was in the recall for 2011-2012 Mustangs! "Randomly while driving there is the engine revs up but car does not go any faster, no response from the throttle, no power. It slams down into lower gear, at one time the rear wheels screeched. My wife was driving this time, we were in traffic and was almost rear ended. She will no longer drive the car. Sometimes the wrench light would come on when it was slamming into a different gear then go away after shutting the engine off. I had someone check for codes but none were found... more..."

Randomly while driving there is the engine revs up but car does not go any faster, no reponse from the throttle, no pwower. It slams down into lower gear, at one time the rear wheels screeched. My wife was driving this time, we were in traffic and was almost rear ended. She will no longer drive the car. Sometimes the wrench light would come on when it was slamming into a different gear then go away after shutting the engine off. I had someone check for codes but none were found. On 1 occasion I took a video on my phone while driving at asready throttle and the speedometer was all over the place, up at 40 down to 20 up then down to 0. I had the spark plugs, pcv, evap purge valve, throttle body replaced and it is not fixed. the car has 49K miles. We have owned this car since new. It happens more often now but I cannot replicate it on demand.

My 2013 Ford Mustang had some problems with down shifting, and my daughter took it several times to the dealer, they said it is probably the throttle body, so I replaced it, and thought that everything was fine. So on September last year my daughter was in an accident due to the car downshifting to first gear, the tires locked up and she swirled to some freeway wire retainers. Thankfully she was OK, So thinking that the throttle body went bad again I replaced it, and last week, I almost got rear ended because the same thing happened to me. The car shifted abruptly to first gear, locking the tires and rear swaying side to side.

Vehicle intermittently hesitates to accelerate after coming to a complete stop.this first occured in 2019 and only happened a hand full of times until November 2020. In recent instances it has repeatedly stalled at stop lights and in traffic situations where I need to slow to a near stop, such as a yield or sharp turn.the rpms jump high and engine revs but doesn't hardly move for several seconds, after which it jerks suddenly forward and a yellow wrench light comes on in the dashboard. It has become a daily occurence and mechanics have suggested it to be related to a computing error that the Ford dealership should address.

Vehicle will suddenly not accelerate while driving - randomly. The car had no response. At times, wrench light will be on - other lights too. After turning off car, the problem seems to go away, but it has repeated and frequency seems to be higher. This is very dangerous as this happens in highways or exists, the car is basically with no response.

I purchased a used 2013 Ford Mustang boss 302. The car only has 9,000 miles on it. It only comes with the 6 speed manual transmission. It has a clunky shift between 1st and 2nd gear and 5th gear. You must shift very slowly when it is cold or it will grind the gears. I have looked at several Ford boss302 facebook groups and everyone states they will have clutch lockout if they shift at high RPM's and ultimately will have transmission failure due to a clutch that is unable to provide enough clamping power to hold the flywheel when shifting. Numerous users stated that as soon as they upgraded to clutches by mccleod, exedy, or mantic, the problems immediately went away. They all state it is not the transmission, but the faulty clutch that causes the transmission to fail eventually. The boss 302 engine has a 7,500 RPM redline which is higher than the other coyote 5.0 liter engines. The clutch can not handle this high RPM limit. So, basically Ford sold a performance car that you can't drive anywhere near its limits because of the faulty clutch/transmission. They should be required to replace the stock clutch with a higher quality aftermarket clutch. If they replace it with the same Ford clutch, the problem will repeat.

In a nut shell, look up Ford tsbs: 13-4-9 and 13-6-8. 2013 Mustang, 65,700 miles, with 6-speed auto (6R80) transmission will suddenly get stuck in 5th gear when starting or when cruising at highway speeds. Very dangerous when pulling out into traffic or an on-ramp and suddenly stuck in 5th gear with no ability to accelerate. Not to mention potential road range from drivers behind a car that can't move when the traffic light turns green. The orange wrench, airbag, low fuel indicators illuminated, the speedometer needle drops to zero, odometer, trip meter, "miles until empty" meter all display dashes while driving. Symptoms will clear after an ignition key cycle, but return. Trouble codes (dtcs) P0720 is sometimes stored in the powertrain control module. I'm currently stuck with a >$900 repair bill to replace the lead frame attached to the valve body in the transmission. Please increase scope of existing recall for other years/models with the same 6R80 transmission problem. Ford csp 16N02 has already extended coverage for 10 years, 150,000 miles on other vehicles with this same tranny, so it's incomprehensible the 2013 Mustang isn't covered as well.

While driving my car it went into a "limp mode". it has happened several times but this particular day I was crossing an intersection and my car just lost power. I was almost smashed on each side. A wrench light popped up on my dashboard and the car would not move. I was literally stuck in the middle of the intersection. I had to place the car in park and turn it off for 3 minutes. It started back up but it still does it at least 5-6 times a week. I had the throttle body cleaned and it still does it. I am only the second owner of this vehicle and I take good care of it. I love the Mustangs, but if I would've know of this very serious safety issue, I wouldn't have bought it. I can be driving at 60mph and this will happen. This is very dangerous and frightening. I've read that some previous Ford models have been recalled for this same issue. I don't understand why the Mustangs haven't been. This is unacceptable by Ford. When I called them they just told me to keep my receipts. I cannot believe they are doing this to people.

My vehicle is doing the exact same thing as this recall #19S07 - 6R80 transmission unexpected downshift into 1st gear. My VIN says there is no recall yet it is happening to my car on a semi regular basis 2-3 times per week. I do not have the money to take it to my local Ford dealer and feel this VIN should be recalled for this problem. The car just drops down into 1st gear irregardless of speed. It is a danger to myself and other drivers around me. I am writing this desperate email to NHTSA to please put my car on this recall asap and also documenting the fact I am telling you about this problem in case there is a future accident for insurance purposes and a law suit waiting to happen. Please help me. This vehicle is dangerous and needs repair today. I do not have the money to take it to Ford. I know what ever the costs it will be 500-1000 or more. Please recheck my VIN: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
