I bought a used 2016 Ford Mustang EcoBoost with the original warranty still on the car and an additional warranty that should have covered most things relating to the engine. I was driving on a 2 lane road when my car suddenly cut off while I was driving and would not start back up. I had a line of cars behind me and I was stuck in the middle of the road. I was able to push it out of the road and had to have it towed to the dealer, because the warranty says so. They fixed my car, something to do with the fuel injectors. After paying over $400 because the warranty doesn't cover it, I have my car back.

6 days later, my car does the same thing on the highway. The check engine light is not on but my car cuts off while driving and you lose complete steering ability. My car was towed back to the dealer for them to fix it again. This time they replaced the T9 sensor. Another $100, my car is "fixed". (Warranty doesn't cover this).

A week and a half later, still no check engine light, my car cuts off while driving again on the highway. I called the first Ford dealer and could only get "I'll pass along the message" and could never speak to anyone. After 4 phone calls, I had it towed to a different Ford dealer. They kept saying nothing was wrong with my car. Finally, after 5 days, they said it was the fuel sensor and my car is fixed. I had to pay another $400 because the warranty doesn't cover it.

I drove my car for an hour and half, cuts off on me while I was driving again on the highway. I called this dealer back to be told "I'm sorry sweetheart, there's nothing I can do for you." I had to pay to get my car towed again but this time it is not at a Ford dealer because they can't seem to do anything right and it's simply not their problem. And of course, the warranty doesn't cover a rental at all so it's just pay out of pocket for all of this.

After 6 weeks and paying $900 already, my car is still sitting in a shop, waiting to be fixed. Who knows how much this time will cost me. Clearly there is something wrong with the manufacturing of this car. IS FORD GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS? I have 38,000 miles on a car that can't do anything but break down and Ford doesn't cover any of the repairs? I am not the only person having these problems and at some point, someone is going to get hurt or die because the car is cutting off on highways placing people in dangerous situations.

Mustang Pony Package Ecoboost

Like other posts here, I was driving my 2016 Ecoboost in left lane at 60 mph. This 4 lane divided highway had concrete barrier to the left, 2 lanes my direction, and an 11 -foot shoulder on the right. The right lane was bumper to bumper traffic traveling around 55-60 as well.

My car suddenly lost throttle power, lights came on dash with warning messages,and bells started dinging. I went from 60-30 with a Corvette behind me. Thank goodness they were paying attention because they were able to slow and avoid rear ending me.

I had the sense/composure to turn my hazards on right away and a car in the right was able to let me over to make it to the shoulder.

Like others, I let car sit 10 minutes and restarted it. It started up fine and I thought I could drive it 3/4 mile to the next exit on shoulder. No go. All the lights came back on with warnings. I did toggle through my gauges and the oil pressure, temps were all fine and the boost/vacuum seemed to be where it should be at idle.

Vehicle at dealership now. I'm awaiting their diagnostic info. Will update when I get more info.

Update from May 10, 2017: the dealership indicated that the code P068a showed up. The problem was the battery. They replaced it and test drove it 100 miles and feel it is fixed.

I have a 2016 Ford Mustang V6, only 4 months old and with only 7800 miles on it. I was driving about 45 miles an hour in the mountains and suddenly lost engine power. The car was still on and engine was on, but I had no power. Hitting the gas did nothing, and neither did switching from drive to S or N. The car was not overheating. The engine warning light was on and there was a giant wrench warning light in the middle of the display. I just kept losing power until I was crawling up the hill at 2 MPH to get to a spot where I could pull over. I shut the car off at that point (it was about to die anyway when I had it in park) and let it sit for a few minutes while I checked around the car for leaks of some kind (there was nothing). I started the car back up, although it took a bit to get it started. I was able drive another .25 of a mile to reach a telephone (no cell service) at a ranger station, but it lost power a second time just as I was pulling up to a safe location, and almost died again while I put it in park to shut down. I left it for about 15 minutes and it would start back up, but the engine sounded terrible. At idle, it would chug and almost die, then kick back in. A fire ranger was there helping me and he said he could hear lifter/tappet noise in the engine. I had it towed to the nearest Ford dealership and am still awaiting the solution.

This posses for a very dangerous situation. I owned a 2015 manual mustang and I was at a gas station getting gas. A guy pulls up in his 2015 mustang and asked me about stalling and loss of power. I told him that I didn't have that issue then. That was last year. This year I got. The 2016 mustang auto and now I know what the guy was talking about. It happened to me today. Luckily I was in a parking lot when suddenly the car lost power and no ability to throttle forward. I could limp the car home at 10 mph. I get it home, put it in park and it idle a little rough. I shut it down for a few minutes and started it up again. It was back to normal. However, I did a test drive in my neighborhood for about 2 miles and it did it again. I put it back in park and shut it down. When I went to restart, it took allot longer to start. Like it was flooded. This could have been allot worse if this problem occurred at a traffic light making a left in front of on coming traffic. I have lost trust in this vehicle. It's like a time bomb on my mortality. When will it strike again.

Update from Nov 13, 2016: Car failed again in a Pakistan lot. Loss of power and rough idle. Engine died and wouldn't start. I had taken it in previously and they said they replaced the throttle body. This is a huge problem.

On highway lost power during rush hour. Coasted vehicle to berm. 1st time - "wrench" warning - check manual. Turned car off. Restarted. Drove away. 5 miles down the road. Happened again. This time - service engine light came on and stayed on. Tech revved but no power. Pulled over. Had to re-start three times before drivetrain would engage. Even with manual transmission and tach showing engine rpm. Drove another couple of miles. Did it again. Taking to dealership tomorrow. Based on internet research, Ford might have a problem they are not telling people about. Loosing power on a highway could cause some serious accidents.

Lost power in insanely busy Irving/Dallas intersection near major highway - could have been a huge accident!

5400 plus miles. Car came off assembly line Jan. 13th 2016. I received it Feb. 28th. V6 engine without any warning signs what so ever.

Stepped on gas and nothing! had to creep across two lanes of traffic and limp up onto a sidewalk as that there was no breakdown shoulder. Than God the curb was about 2 to 3 inches high.

Wrench icon on dash: "See Manual".

Turned engine off and back on - RPMs surged to the red and then dropped to below 1000. Tried the off/on thing about 3 times - same results. Engine was chugging and acting as if it were missing, even exhaust was chugging like some old jalopy!

Checked the electronic gauge readings - everything was normal except the Vacuum pressure - It was between 5 and 0!

After several calls to dealership, Ford roadside assist and tow company; turned car off again - 30 seconds to a minute later, restarted it - and it was running perfect - Engine light however was on. Vacuum level was running between 17 and 20.

Towed to dealership; it's a week now and I have just learned from them that it's the throttle body.

Was told that "Ford had a bad batch of these" on this engine size (V6). The part is on back order. The dealership service rep stated it's taken as long as a "couple of months" but Ford is getting faster at getting the part out, so it could be a week to two weeks to get it in.

I have seen reports of this same issue here on the site for Explorers - from Jun 5th 2016 - stating that Ford had 7000 throttle bodies on back order!

This is an exceptionally dangerous situation with these things losing power like this on highways and in major traffic.

Ford needs to issue a recall on this throttle body!

I bought 5 ford mustangs for my business. All had the same issue. While driving lost all acceleration. Almost got into accidents. Had to tow all of them. Dealer said part is in back order. One has been gone for a month. Bad news
