In addition, the contact stated that the steering rack column was unusually loose. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed steering rack column. The contact was informed that the steering rack column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline and report the failure. The contact referenced an unknown recall repair which had a similar failure description, however the contact's VIN was not associated with the unknown recall repair.
