Some times the engine won't start when it is warm. Let it set until it cools off and it starts right up.

Ranger XLT 4.0L V6

The truck would start and run fine when cold, but occasionally after stopping to get gas it would not re-start. The engine would turn over, but never fire. I replaced the fuel pump relay and never had the problem again. If you don't know how, it's easy - the relays just plug into the fuse panel under the hood.

Would not start when warm. Replaced fuel pump, cheap Airtex through Ebay. Ok for a while, but soon the problem returned. Replaced fuel pump again, another cheap Airtex through Ebay, problem continued. Tried a Cam Position sensor, no change. Tried a Coil pack, no help. Then a Throttle position sensor, wasn't it. Thought about it for about a week and resumed. Got a EFI pressure tester at Harbor Freight and hooked it up. Warmed up the truck and tried a restart, wouldn't start, and there was low erratic fuel pressure. I removed the bed, and put a test light on the fuel pump, it lit up fine. Went to a parts store and got a mid priced fuel pump. That solved the problem.

The engine doesn't get spark. When your truck won't start, if you test the spark plug wires they aren't sending spark to any of the cylinders so I think that it's either the coil in the distributor or an engine control module (ECM) which is very expensive to fix. Not too sure what it is yet and I don't have any real plans to get too involved with it because i've been chasing this problem for over a year now and am fed up with it, just thought this information might help somebody.

I have a 1994 Ford Ranger. Sometimes mine won't start especially after i have driven it a while & it warms up, but it runs fine when it is cold. When it warms up it starts to idle rough, stalls, & dies. I'm not sure what it is but it just gets hot & quits. It hesitates going down the road for no reason what so ever. I am afraid it will stall/die in the middle of the road & cause an accident & it will be due to Ford's malfunctions. Just a Ford malfunction. In my opinion they should have had a recall on this problem. the items replaced are the coil packs, plugs, wires, a total tune up & it didn't fix it. I can not afford to fix it. But I was told by a mechanic that it will not be cheap to fix. I have to children that ride with me. Who is gonna pay if an accident happened due to FORD ???

This mostly, but not always, happens when I am driving on the interstate for several hours and stop to get gas. The engine sounds like it's going to turn over, but doesn't. Sometimes it will happen after a trip as short as an hour. It cranks ok but then just doesn't catch. So far, I've only had to have it towed once, sat in the gas station for over an hour waiting on the tow and it still wouldn't start when he got there. Next morning the garage called to tell me I now had an "intermittent problem" as it started right up for them, and only thing I could do was wait until it happened again and have it towed straight in. My uncle is a certified mechanic and looked at it last time I was back home and suspects it might be the fuel pump but couldn't prove it. Spent hours with it running with a tester on it but still couldn't come up with a solution. I need to drive to Ohio this summer and don't want to be stuck in a gas station somewhere on I-75 overnight. It only seems to happen when I get gas after driving for several hours, but then again, the only time I stop on a long drive is to get gas, so I don't know if it would happen if I just turned it off without getting gas. It's definitely scary to not know if this will be the time it just doesn't start at all. Or if it could be something that would make it just stop getting fuel altogether....

Same as other Complaint. When engine gets hot & truck gets parked & turned off, engine will not re-start although has lots of cranking power. This is an intermittant problem. Either fuel related or electrical. I am leaning towards electrical as only one dash lights up when key is turned for ignition when this problem occurs......the battery charging circuit light. Have to wait anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour & engine will re-start. All dash lights will light up when everything is OK again. Ford Dealership thought it might be the Cam positioning sensor. From my Nephew who is a Mechanic, this would be an expensive repair in labour hours.....so am not having it done until the problem is more prevalent. In the winter months it never hardly does it....maybe a couple times. In the summer, have to keep the truck running if I make a quick stop. What a pain in the rear !!!! You would think others have run into this problem. Sure would be nice if somebody chimed in with the solution.

vehicle starts when engine is cold, but after engine gets warm and vehicles is parked, it will not restart. vehicle has to set a while and will then start up. When trying to restart engine turns over, but will not catch. Doesn't happen every time vehicle is used. Sounds like it is not getting any gas. Had vehicle worked on by local repair shop, replaced parts in ignition system. worked fine for about three days. Took to local Ford dealer who couldn't get it to" NOT START"even after driving it around for a while. Had vehicle for almost 2 weeks, but could not find anything wrong with it as it would not malfunction for him.
