problem #2

Ranger

  • Automatic transmission
  • 210,512 miles

All of a sudden, with no warning signs or anything, Reverse quit working. All other gears work fine! We have owned the truck since January 2008 and have not had any problems with the transmission until now. If we want to back up we have to put it in reverse and (what we call) "flintstone it" that is push it with our feet. It is very annoying and we can't figure out what caused it because nothing else is wrong it just won't go backwards!

Ranger EXT 2.5L

  • Manual transmission
  • 123,765 miles

This 5 speed transmission is made by Mitsubishi. It lossesto fluid through cheap plugs on the trans body. Loss of fluid can go undetected, resulting in overheating and component failures.

It is also a very light duty trans that breaks when you have wheel hop. So light foot your Ranger if you want the trans to last. And keep the fluid level checked...often.
