On July 13, 2009 I wrote a letter to the claims dept regarding an investigation on an airbag fire due to an accident on a 1999 Ford Ranger. I received a response form a steve bardell on Aug. 20, 2009 that there were no open recalls for a speed control activation switch which were of no concern to the damage that occurred on our vehicle. I responded Oct. 5, to please investigate this matter further for the safety of other customers and the fact that the driver's airbag did in fact catch on fire with the driver behind the wheel and to find out what caused this. I saw a recall on this morning's news but when I check the recall for the cruise control switch as stated, to find out what I needed to do to respond to this I noticed that this particular year of vehicle was not listed and definitely should be. Please! help on this matter. I am attaching pictures and the original letter for further investigation on my vehicle.. thank you in advance for looking into this matter.

The contact owns a 1999 Ford Ranger. While driving 50-55 mph on a bridge he crashed into the wall. The air bags did not deploy. The driver broke his nose. The front passenger cracked the windshield and suffered a concussion. Both passengers were wearing seat belts. The VIN was unknown. There was no police report. The current and failure mileages were 127,000.

- Barnsdall, OK, USA

During a 45 mph frontal collision front air bags did not deploy. The seat belt released from the belt buckle. Consumer sustained minor injuries, and had the vehicle towed. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

- Kenmore, WA, USA

While driving 35 mph consumer's vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact both frontal air bags failed to deploy. Driver sustained minor injuries, and was transported to a hospital. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.

- Seattle, WA, USA

After hitting a deer at 45 mph a white powered smoke came out of the front air bag when deployed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

- Carlinville, IL, USA

While sitting in traffic the vehicle accelerated without warning and both airbags deployed without contact with another vehicle. The driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer for analysis.

- Amsterdam, NY, USA

While driving 45 mph vehicle was hit on the right driver's side. Neither side or frontal air bags deployed upon impact.

- Miami, FL, USA

While driving 45 mph the driver tried avoid another vehicle but vehicle rolled over twice and was hit on the side and the front. The air bags did not deploy.

- Antlers, OK, USA

Consumer was involved in an accident, and the driver airbag failed to deploy.

- Litchfield, OH, USA

Owner had to hit brakes due to a vehicle in front of him coming to a dead stop while driving 50 mph. Truck went into a skid, and struck vehicle in front. Upon impact, neither air bag deployed. Numerous amout of front damage from hood to coolant system, etc.

- Glendale, AZ, USA

During a head on collision at 45 mph airbags did not deplpoy, causing serious injuries. Airbag is under 5 year / 50,000 mile warranty.

- Rocky River, OH, USA

Vehicle involved in a roll over and headed into a ditch. Upon impact, both air bags did not deploy. Dealer / manufacturer were not notified at this time.

- Clarence, IL, USA

While driving 5 mph another vehicle driving 4O mph hit consumer's vehicle on front end. Upon impact, neither airbag deployed. Vehicle was totalled, consumer suffered minor injuries.

- Garland, TX, USA

While driving 25 to 35 mph vehicle hit a telephone pole head-on, and air bags did not deploy. Vehicle had a frontal impact.

- Spring Wells, PA, USA

Struck the side of a car that turned blind in front of me at 50 mph totalling both vehicles. Had my hands on steering wheel at 10 and 2 oclock. Bent steering column forward slightly from impact. Air bags did not go off!! had seatbelt strap soreness following. Police and fire rescue personnel were surprised that air bag did not deploy. Reported to morries manager - told they would contact me - they never did. Also reported to insurance rep.

While travelling on interstate 25 northbound near albuquerque, rear axle broke on the right rear of the vehicle. Right rear wheel with wheel & part of axle separated, causing multiple rollover of the vehicle. Driver was severely injured and the truck was totalled. No air bags deployed in the vehicle although there was significant front end impact on the driver's side of the vehicle.

- Albuquerque, NM, USA

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 40 mph. Upon impact, airbags did not deploy, resulting in minor injuries. Dealer has been notified.

- Novia Scotia, Canada, 00, USA

Drivers side door flew open in crash and wife was ejected from truck. Air bags on both sides did not deploy. Truck was totaled.

- Marion, OH, USA

Was traveling 35mph when another vehicle "T" boned Ranger, this caused Ranger to hit a cement planter and gas pump, vehicle was totaled, and air bags failed to deploy, causing 2 people to sustain injuries.

- Phoenix, AZ, USA

Consumer's husband had a head-on collison and passenger's seat belt failed to deploy.
