So on my birthday i went to go get a christmas tree it was -5 with the windchill and a blizzard, i got to the top of whats called washington mountain in the berkshires and i pulled over for a moment because my tree was blowing out of the back. When i put it in park the shifter just broke off in my hand I was stuck in neutral. Now the road i was on is in the middle of nowhere, little traffic, no cell phone service and certainly no stores your lucky to see a house every 5 miles or so. Anyway i had to take the plastic around the wheel off with my leathermen (all in one tool like a swiss army) to find out the rod that goes down under the dash thats connected to the shift rod was broken right in half i could tell it was made out of "potmetal" just by its texture. The break is about a foot down from the base of the shifter. After about an hour i finaly got it to go to first gear and that was it i drove home 15 miles in first gear with my flashers on in a blizzard i could not have called a tow truck or anything.
From multiple other post of people that have called ford it seems they plain and simple do not care. i would love for a representative from ford to contact me and even tell me there sorry for my problem, but no that will never happen never mind recalling this issue, which i can not even believe is not considered a safety problem. Ford you failed another customer and its said to believe this once reputable company has come to this, come to replacing parts that should be heavy duty with garbage POTMETAL!!.... good job saving a dollar. Well you did live up to one reputation ...found on road dead... where mine STILL IS because i dont have the 1500 or whatever to fix it, so ill just continue to pay my loan for this.
