Ranger XL 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,500 miles

Had just come out of a right angle turn and upon acceleration truck acted as if it were in neutral instead of drive (D). I actually couldn't believe it and had to drop in to '2' to have enough power to move at approx 25 mph. After a couple of mile of this and almost home the OD (overdrive light) started flashing.

Ford Dealer the following afternoon and $397.00 later showed me the 'valve body gasket' they had replaced. It appears (I kept it) to literally have shrunk, wilted up, shredded somewhat on one side from a corner about 6 inches out.

I love the truck, but for some reason decided to go online and see who else, if anyone, may have had similar if not the same problems. Holy Crap! This was a heck of a way to have to get my tranny fliuid changed, and am I to expect it to happen again?

Ranger V6

Got this crapy truck 1 year ago and nothing but problems. Now they say the transmission may need to be replace after only 1000 miles. This is not the first high price problem, but it will be my last with this truck. Im selling it off.

Ranger 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 52,195 miles

I bought this piece of crap 2002 Ford Ranger brand new. At 84,000 km I had to have the transmission rebuilt. I felt that the dealer or Ford Canada would have the decency to help cover some of the cost since the mileage was so low. Guess what, not in these exact words but Ford Canada basically told me it sucks to be me and they would not help out. Oh, did I mention it happened two week before Christmas. The dealer said he'll give me a good deal on a used trade in. I told him "too late, I bought a 2010 Toyota Matrix and would you buy a ford after the way I was treated". So I'm tell ya all, Don't buy a Ford because they build crap and won't stand behind their product and the customer service at Ford Canada is terrible.
