Ranger Edge 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

My tranny started slipping horribly on the 1-2 shift. It shifted out of first just fine, but when it went to go to second, it didn't. It went to a "free-revving" state and would not accelerate. Finally after many seconds of anticipation and waiting to obtain a speed of greater than 15MPH, it slammed into second and after that, shifted normally. It seems to get worse as I drive. There are only 30,000 miles on the truck, and it has been very reliable except for this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions/tips that might help besides replacing or rebuilding the transmission? It is a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge Extended Cab 4.0L V6 2WD 5-spd auto. If the transmission model helps anyone, it is the 5R55E (I already researched that).

The trani revse up real high with not going into gear. When it does it feels like a bunking broco. The rear end jumps around. When on free way RPM's jumps around like crazy. This is a manufacturing problem. It was built inproperly.

my vehicle since it was firt bought has had a transmission problem, it jumps into and out of gears, clunks. it has been repaired 4 times concerning this problem, they keep replacing the same part/s it keeps happening, the latest is the O/D light started to flash on and off and in low speeds the tranny wanted to jump right out from under the truck upon acceleration and deceleration. will ford canada replace the tranny... nope they will replace a different part each time stating that it is now fixed. im at my wits end and a chev is looking mighty fine right now.
