This issue started a while back and as my truck was still under warranty I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and was told it is the ABS and it is supposed to do that, I said if that is so how come it hasn't done it from the start when I bought the truck brand new, I just seem to keep getting fobbed of and in my opinion it is so when my warranty runs out in 4 months then they will find the problem and charge me for it, I have took it in again today so they have it at present with the same ongoing fault and also now when it is in low range in 4 wheeled drive it jumps out of 1st gear on a decline hill that's not bumpy or uneven and also if I try to reverse in 4 wheeled low range it is as though the parking brake is full on and the truck won't move then it makes a loud clonking noise then seems to release something and moves off, The same clonking noise happened when it also jumped out of gear,
The other thing which isn't as scary or dangerous is the compass is locked in the North position I have done the reset and calibration stuff said in the user manual but it is still the same so my truck is in for all the above today and hopefully this time after around 7 times of taking it in and having to get buses and trains home and back to collect my truck they will finally get it sorted while it is still under warranty, I definitely would never buy another ranger with the ongoing problems, And what is the point of them offering a 3 year warranty when you purchase from new when they do nothing but mess you around saying there is nothing wrong it should do that and then have you worrying your soul case out that it will cost a fortune to fix after the warranty as ended, GREAT !!!!!!, NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!, totally put me off a Ranger ever again, It took me 20 years to be able to afford to buy this truck new and now I have the worry of it keep breaking down when it as only 16k on the clock now from new, What a JOKE,
Update from Sep 23, 2010: Hi Guys, An update regarding my truck issues, I had it in to the Ford garage I purchased it from for them to look into the problems, They kept it 10 days and changed the gearbox springs for stronger ones to stop it jumping out of gear which as worked a treat, It now feels great when changing gear and doesn't jump out of gear on a descending hill now well not at the moment but I haven't been up to the farm as yet to try it, The gear change is now more precise as before it was like a stick in a pot of custard it was all over the place, As for the breaks it is apparently the ABS kicking i as they call it, They took me out in a brand new Ranger 10 plate and that was doing the exact same thing as we tested there truck and my truck in the exact same location in there compound to be able to compare both trucks, And same with the 4 wheeled drive system it is what they called WINDING the 4 wheeled drive system up as I was using it on gravel on the farm when towing and it was getting too much grip so locking the 4 wheeled drive system up or winding it up as they said, I did the same test in the new ranger as with the breaks to test the 4 wheeled drive system on my truck and there truck and to be perfectly honest there truck seemed even worse due to it having bigger and wider tyres than my truck has fitted, All in all I can't fault the Ford dealer garage this time for all there help and work carried out nothing was too much trouble for them on this occasion and they have really took a big burden off my shoulders with showing me the comparison with there truck and my truck what with my warranty due to end in December of this year, I am also re-leaved as I can now keep my beloved truck as I was looking at selling it if the situation wasn't fixed but my financial situation is a bit hard at present like most of us so I would have had to go to an older 4x4 where as now I can keep and run my truck that I have look after very well since buying it from new, Hope this update as helped you guys out but I have also been informed that Ford did a re-call on the jumping out of gear issue well I was told if the customer was having the same problem of it jumping out of gear on a descending hill and they went to there Ford dealer with the problem the dealer would upgrade the spring as in my case but obviously I can't give you the 100% on this it is just what I was told so you'd need to take it up with your Ford dealer and I would imagine if your truck is still in the warranty cover they'll have to do the job free of charge under the warranty but same as I said that is between you and your Ford dealer to sort out,
