The 10R80 10 speed transmission in my truck has failed, due to the steel to aluminum drum being different materials it cause pre mature catastrophic failure. the damaged components resulted in needing a full overhaul/rebuild of my transmission at my full expense. my ford dealer stated there is a known tech service bulletin about this exact failure which means ford knows there's a problem but will not fix it. the resulting damage was the sun gear has failed, the drum has failed, and there are chunks missing from gears 5,6 and 7, which also resulted in needing a new valve body, and new torque converter. i opted to take my ranger to a independent shop as i no longer trusted ford to rebuild the transmission correctly and i do also have the failed components. The safety issues were losing all drive train function randomly when in operation, on several occasions this happened on the freeway at freeway speeds, or sitting in stop and go traffic and the the truck would just rev but not go anywhere, both scenarios have happened with my kids in the vehicle putting there lives in danger. Yes the problem has been confirmed by both the ford dealer and the independent transmission shop. yes i brought the parts to the ford dealer to look at, but they do remain in my possession. no, there were lights or indicators that a failure was happening, ive done all the ford recommended maintenance at the time it was due, the hard shift had always been there but i was told that's just how it was on multiple occasions. this is a known issue and i have spoken with several other 2019-2023 ford ranger owners and majority have had the exact same issues occur.

When turning on to another road and accelerating, engine will suddenly loose all power. releasing accelerator will regain some power until vehicle speed increases. Throttle control is often erratic and transmission shifting is inconsistent resulting in hard clunks during shift. Pulling into traffic with a sudden loss of power leaves me vulnerable to a collision.

In my 2019 Ford Ranger, which has 75,570 miles, on [XXX], I was at a stop sign on [XXX], at [XXX], near Statesboro, GA, waiting for a break in traffic to safely cross. When a safe break occurred, I proceeded to cross, and at about the halfway point of crossing, the transmission bucked, and the truck began to slow to a halt. As a tractor trailer was bearing down on me broadside, the transmission jumped into gear, and I was able to proceed, and narrowly avoided a broadside collision. Afterward, the warning lamp indicated a powertrain malfunction (wrench) light. I took the truck to my local Autozone, where I used their OBD, and the test result fault was "Power Train System, P07F7-00, Gear 10 Incorrect Ratio". I have an appointment at Metter Ford to repair the issue on January 17th, 2025. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Transmission 10R80, 10 speed. Had HARD shifting, 1st to 2nd gear, excessive engine RPM in 1st gear then dropping hard into 2nd causing tire squawk. Hesitation in power after hard shift causing loss of acceleration, dangerous in heavy traffic. No warning lights and no fault codes produced. Warranty time period expired mid June 2024. Mileage at 52236 was under 60000 limit. Ford dealership refused to cover any costs. Complaints filed with Ford Motor Company twice. Corp refused any support or compensation. Vehicle was taken to independent Certified Mechanic who verified the problems. Mechanic followed Ford Technical Bulletins to make repairs. Three separate steps in the repair process produced no favorable results. Transmission had to be removed and rebuilt with Ford factory OEM parts. Several parts replaced were of new design, indicating Ford knows of the problems and is attempting to redesign the transmission, but NOT supporting customers out of warranty. Since this was our only vehicle a rental was needed for two weeks while the repair process was followed per Ford Technical Bulletins. Total cost of repairs $7301.82 for vehicle 2 months out of warranty with less than 53000 miles. Also having problems with the Sync System that the dealership also refused to even test at no charge. Since we did not feel safe with this vehicle, nor did it seem reliable, we traded the truck in for a Nissan. We are seeking reimbursement for all costs of repairs and rental cars. Ford needs to issue a recall and reimburse customers regardless of miles and warranty expirations. I have receipts for all expenditures and all parts removed and replaced on/in the transmission. Documents can be supplied upon request.

In the past 3 months, my 2019 Ford ranger has had a multitude of issues come up all at once. First, my transmission destroyed a gear and needed to be rebuilt. Next was an engine misfire code that Ford detected, and ended up being spark plugs at 66k miles. The current issue is that my fan clutch failed, causing it to rip off the wiring harness that was nearby that led to the oil pressure sensor. This caused an instant loss in power on the highway and almost caused an accident. This truck has been given servicing on every mileage checkpoint that it was suppose to.

Transmission is in signs of failure. Ford is offering updates to the computer to attempt to remedy the issue. Very similar behavior across all models with this family of 10 speed transmissions. Discouraging for owners just coming out of warranty. TSBs show Ford knows of these issues. No warning lights, violent shifting and worse yet when the vehicle is cold the shift will be missed and make it extremely dangerous when merging into traffic. I feel like I am about to be rear ended every day leaving work. There is no way these transmissions are 'okay' or that this is considered the 'new-norm' that the Ford Dealer is pushing. I have some dash cam footage that I shared with Ford (and on my personal youtube account).

There is insufficient shielding to prevent water from reaching the top of the engine. This results in water dripping on the coil packs and also entering the spark plug wells, causing loss of spark and reduced engine output. Over time, this issue also leads to rust in the engine head, potentially resulting in engine failure. Additionally, water can reach the EGR DPFE sensor, causing the engine to hesitate and shutter at various speeds. Both of these issues together cause a misfire when applying the accelerator and will cause the vehicle to initially hesitate then surge forward. Even with the engine cover, the venting at the base of the windshield allows water to drip down on the engine head, causing the above issues. Ford does recognize that there is an issue and have written several TSBs on the it.

The check engine light illuminated after leaving residence and traveling less than 5 miles. Had the vehicle check by a certified ASE mechanic, He stated that my vehicle had a misfire code (PO300), if it was a PO301 OR PO302 or etc, it would indicate a specific coil was misfiring, but the PO300 is a general misfire code. Vehicle is jerking, pulling, bogging down as if doesn't want to go forward or is losing power, mechanic changed the spark pulls the first time thinking it was time due to mileage of the vehicle, and cleared the code. One week later check engine light is back on with the same PO300 code, he says we can try changing the coils next to see if this fixes the problem. I called my local ford dealer, who says the will charge me $167 dollars to diagnose the problem, and tell me whats wrong. After I have already told them what the problem is and what the code is for the problem. Which is the same code i got from my $40 code reader is the same code he got from his $1500 code reader, so what can the tell me for $ 167 that i dont already know and have told them, and from further research on recalls for this vehicle, I have found that they already know this problem exist. Ford should be responsible for repairing this know issue of engine misfires before someone dies from this engine shutting down while driving and causing a fatality on the highway.

The vehicle skips gears when upshifting and does not shift through all the gears when in cruise mode. The truck will buck and bang jolting the passengers and appear to stall out without any warning. This has happened on numerous occasions and has even stalled out in the middle of a very busy intersection almost causing a collision by the truck not having enough power to coast through the intersection. Based on conversations with the dealership, this is not an isolated issue with our vehicle.

My 2019 Ford Ranger (Lariat) has as what I've discovered is a habitual problem that many other Ford Ranger owners are experiencing. While driving at lower speeds (28-40 mph) the trucks transmission will begin to knock and buck very hard. I've noticed, according to the gear indicator, that it is in either 7th or 8th gear. The problem has gotten consistently worse and I'm in fear of greater damage to the mechanics, or worse, a potential accident if it completely gives out while driving. - The truck has not had any modifications what-so-ever that would have in any way affected the transmission.
