Ranger XLT 2.3-liter EcoBoost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

Around 40K miles we began to noticed at speeds below 30 mph the transmission was oddly shifting, shaking, delayed and hesitant to engage. Took it to the Ford dealership who had to refer me to another since they didn't have a certified transmission specialist on staff. After 2.5 months, weeks of calling, excuses ("The parts are scheduled for delivery tomorrow"), and having to file an official complaint with Ford due to no communication and the dealership continuously giving parts ordered for my vehicle to others needing the same work, they replaced the transmissions valve body and cvf drum. We'll see if it works.

This began as an inconvenient performance issue but progressed until it became very unsafe to drive. I'll be selling the vehicle ASAP.

Also, the issue appear to be very common among the newer Ford Rangers based on the dealership feeling the pressure to give away parts ordered for my vehicle. And THINK AGAIN if you believe Ford will provide a rental for repairs covered under warranty.

Update from Sep 14, 2023: Ford's repair failed. Took 10 weeks to order/receive parts and replace the automatic transmission, which now drives worse. At low speeds (parking lot driving) the vehicle bounces and lunges like someone learning to drive a manual transmission. Below 30, drives about like it did before and shifts oddly. At interstate speeds there is a new vibration that shakes the body of the vehicle, but is not felt in the steering wheel. Back to the dealership who forewarned me that it may be multiple months before they can get to my vehicle due to so many others requiring the same repair. Something is just not right here with Ford Motor Co.
