I bought a 1994 Ford Taurus for 1500 in June 2011. It ran GREAT for about 5 months, then the transmission started slipping. I'd put it in drive and it would roll backward, I'd put it in reverse and it would just rev and not move. This was just a slight issue, but now once the car heats up it happens all the time. I stop at a light or sign and it just revs, then jumps into gear, if I put it in reverse it doesnt move AT ALL!! I was told to have the fluid and filter changed. We took it to a mechanic and told him the problem, he refused to touch it and told us its the transmission pump. He said to have it fixed would cost anywhere between $1,000-2,000, depending on where we took it. This car only has 63,000 miles on it, and from what Im reading, this car is notorious for this. Just plain DISGUSTED!!! I refuse to pay that much to have it fixed, especially since I only paid 1,500 for it.

My grandpa surprised me with this car since my Jeep was going to cost $1,200 to repair. He got a real "deal" from a salesman for this 1994 Hunk 'o junk at $3,300!
Three months after receiving the car, the transmission went out at an intersection in the middle of Amish country- two months after that, the breaks went out, another $600, then a tire went flat, another $100. Then suddenly the back driver's side window won't go down. Now, the antilock brake light is on and it's having transmission issues again. All of these problems and I've had the car 10 months. What a great "surprise"!
I HATE this car and can't believe I could have gotten a REALLY great car for less than what this one cost to buy + repairs. DO NOT BUY A FORD!!!!!

My wife bought a brand new, Ford Taurus EX station wagon. From when she first got the car, we brought it to Wantagh Ford numerous times for transmission symptoms (at lights would intermittently surge suddenly, etc).
Every time Ford said could not reproduce the problem. At approximately 35000 miles and 35 months, I brought the car to Ford and complained of the transmission whining. Wantagh Ford blamed on the serpentine belt. I told them this car has had Transmission symptoms and I was afraid this tranny was defective. The manager said you have had this car in numerous times and if the tranny goes within a reasonable time after the manufacturer warranty, that Ford would honor the warranty.
At 36 months 37000 miles (car had 3 yr/36,000-mile warrantee) while driving on the interstate in upstate NY, the transmission failed. Limped in first gear (it would not go into second) and left the car at a Ford dealer. Ford said the transmission was bad and needed to be rebuilt. They would give a 1 year warranty and would cost 2800 dollars to rebuild. Ford refused to honor what Wantagh Ford told me.
I went to an independent tranny rebuilder and it cost 2100 dollars and had a nationwide 3 yr warrantee which I needed to use 2 yrs after it was rebuilt. The second rebuilder said the most common tranny they get in was the Ford Axod tranny. I was a die-hard Ford customer but since that encounter, I have never bought another Ford and neither have my family. We are proud Honda customers.
PS Took Ford to Small claims court and the Ford rep said we did not do proper upkeep of the tranny, Gave out at 37,000 miles and the service manual stated no fluid change was needed till 100,000 miles
