I bought this crappy, but lovable car in the summer of 2004. When i got it home from the lot (i got in Chicago, live in suburbs) the very next week, every time i start it, the cars RPM would go up and down, up and down, then i would put it in gear, and it would cut off. So i started it again, waited thirty seconds, again it cut off. So, for the last time, i revved it to about 1 or 1.5 RPM, (just a little gas) put it in drive, perfect. After that, all down hill. The reverse went out, then it wouldn't go at all. So, i parked it for the winter. I started it up almost everyday that fall, winter, and spring. I call a local Trans. shop and he says it's the Torque Converter. So i'm relieved cause i thought it would be the Transmission. But I think the guy a bought it from should have paid for it. I just didn't feel like going through the litigation of it all. Please reply if this has happened to you.
