After listening to my car chirp and clatter they finally found the problem. Our 24v DOHC engine had a bad timing chain tensioner. What a cheap part to have fail in such a hard to get to area. No more chirping from the engine.

The sound is definitely annoying. I put an Idler Pulley on it and it fixed it for a while, but then it came back. I found that the coolant tank was cracked so I fixed that and replaced the hoses and clamps as well. It stopped for a while then came back again. I really just think It's too sensitive to moisture being that the belt is right there. I guess fabricate a cover to fit over it to stop moisture, because when i hit a puddle, it starts doing it. Could be an alternator too. Try seeing if it usually happens if electronics are running (IE: Lights ect.). Only happens every once and again, so it doesn't really bother me.

The chirping is coming from the right side, facing the front of the car, in the engine compartment. Not near the serp. belt so I know it isn't that, but the sound does change with the rev's. Also this has caused the car to die twice when at a stop sign because the idle chokes and kills the car. Seeing a personal friend who is an experienced mechanic to find the problem; will post if found!

I have a loud chirping noise - mechanic has replaced the serpentine belt x2 and some pulley beyond the belt. No sound for several weeks, then it is back Anyone know what this could be?

I have two taurus's 2000 and 2001 mainly suspension and heater problems on the 2000, but on the 2001 heater core ,radiator alternator, and finally the stupid engine . It was bought in 2011 Oct and as of now I only got to drive it about one full week. The hub with bearings on the 2000 went and makes a constant noise and shakes whole car. Can't say too much about this car. I have had it 6/12 years. No major problems til this year and get great mileage.
