Chirping drove me nuts. The harmonics made it very difficult to pinpoint the problem, thought it was coming from belt area. Part cost $100.00 from ford, dealer item. only don't buy used! Its actually a "dummy distributor" with cam position sensor on top located under the throttle body under the wide flat electrical harness. If you attempt to change this yourself be sure you know what you are doing, you can and will throw the engine out of timing.

Hello. I do not know much, well... really anything about automobiles. My 2001 Ford Taurus SE has been having alot of difficulties lately. The engine light is one, and has occasionally flashed. It is very hard on gas, and has been losing power while driving. It has actually started bucking, and almost stalling out. It makes a very loud squealing sound, which has been getting worse. I took it to a garage, they did a diagnostic scan and told me that it was the coil pack. They ordered one, put it in, and it did nothing to solve the issue. They then took it back out. They then told me that their diagnostic machine is a general one, and to take it to Ford. I had the wires and spark plugs changed,(one plug was really bad) the engine light when out, and everything seemed okay. Had all the power back (still squealed). Unfortunately, it is all starting again. I have researched this online, and the closest thing that I could find was the Camshaft position sensor, or Camshaft synchronize.... I have no idea what to do. Any information would be of great help. Thanks.

Chirping sound from middle of engine, I have been told it is a lifter hanging up, tried some Lucas oil stabilizer, but it is still chirping. Loud and annoying, the belt was replaced due to wear 6-8 months ago and has no problems. Anyone else know of a quick, easy, and cheap fix to the chirping? What for sure might cause it?

I have reported the chirping problem. Dealer said it might be the camshaft problem at the first sight.
But then decided it's the belt. after changing the belt, the chirping was not stopped completely.
Then got the camshaft synchronizer and sensor replaced. The annoying sound was finally gone!

Started making the noise the day I drove it off the lot. Took it back and they took it to Ford and they couldn't reproduce the noise. Finally the Check Engine light came on after about a week got really bad then. Took it in the next day. And the dealer I bought it from spent $400 to fix it.

Chirping sound from accessories (AC, alternator, etc.) area of engine. This occasionally goes away. Replaced belt and idler pulley. A few weeks later it is back. Any ideas?

Sad to see the Ford Garage keeps replacing the same belt and it does not correct the issue. How many times can you replace the same belt for a customer and see it doesn't solve the issue. Talk about a rip off. Where are the good honest mechanics anymore?
