2001 Ford Taurus. I found a large piece of metal lying on my driveway. I took my car to my local Ford dealership and was told rear coil spring was broken. I was told I needed to replace both rear coil springs as well as struts. Total bill was $970 we were very lucky we noticed the piece of metal on driveway. I understand these broken coil springs are causing rear tire blow-outs! I notified Ford Motor Company and they do not intend to address this issue.

2001 Ford Taurus rear spring failure. The drivers side rear spring broke and ruined the tire. It almost wore through the side wall of the tire. I think this is a real safety problem. I called Ford and to report the problem. At this time their are no recalls for rear springs.

2001 Ford Taurus model sel. Rear coil springs. I purchased this car in 2004 with 35,000 miles and now has 71,000 miles. Garage kept, wife drives. There was a recall on the front causing me to have protective shields placed around front coils due to possible blowout if coil broke, obviously some had broke. I had to have both rear coil springs replaced on 2/2/10 at a cost of $390 parts only. I'm 65 years of age and have never had a vehicle with two broken springs on the rear. I submit that one of the coils had shifted and could have blown out rear tire. I don't think dealerships are not seeing these repairs due to age and labor per hour at a dealership. A private mechanic repaired mine and reports having repaired others. I believe these coils on this model are defective, front and rear. Nothing has been said about the rear coils or any protective device to prevent a blowout.

Why isn't there a recall for the rear spring coils, when there is a recall for the front spring coils? the same problem happens with the rear spring coils that happens with the front spring coils. We own a 2001 Ford Taurus with about 28,000 miles on this vehicle. I am handicap and this is the vehicle that we use to get me to appointments, etc. We are very lucky that the front tire exploded while my husband was backing out of our driveway and not while we were already driving on the highway or where ever! we had the car towed to our mechanic and he told us that the tire exploded because of the front spring coil. Once we found out the cause, I looked on the internet for any issues or recalls for this problem, and low and behold there is a recall because of the front spring coils. We then had the vehicle towed to the Ford dealership that we bought the car from. They are fixing the car now. Yesterday we were told by the dealership that there is a problem with the rear spring coils and that they also need to be replaced. There is not a recall on the rear spring coils, even though I have been researching this issue for the last few days and it appears that Ford should have an active recall on the rear spring coils. Ford needs to step up and issue a recall for the rear spring coils. We have been told the Ford will not pay for the tire that exploded (btw: The 2 front tires were just replaced this past summer) and they won't pay for the rear spring coils to be replaced, even though they have to be replaced! I thought that Ford made safe vehicles, but I now know that is not the case. Ford needs to do something before something serious happens to somebody. I am extremely disappointed!!!

Front and rear spring coils are damaged. My husband was backing out of our driveway an as he did, the front driver's side tire exploded. We had the car towed to a mechanic and we were told that the spring coil punctured the tire. We were then informed that all of the coil needed to be replaced not just the front coils. After we found out about the front coils, we contacted Ford and we were told to bring it to a dealership because the front coils were covered because of a recall. Once we got the car to a dealership, they then told us that there was an issue with the rear coils and that the rear coils were that covered under the recall. I have been doing a lot of research and I have found out that all of the coils need to be replaced. Fyi: We have a 2001 Ford Taurus with 28,000 miles (yes, that is 28,000 miles). I would like a reason why all there isn't a recall on all of the coils, especially since it appears to be a problem with these cars? also, the both front tires are less than a year old. Ford needs to step up to the plate and take responsibility before there are more accidents and maybe even deaths!

Front suspension coil broke and punctured side of tire. Had this happen to back wheel at considerable expense. Hopefully this will be covered under warranty. Luckily this did not happen while my daughter was driving on highway to school or she could have been in a critical accident!

2001 Ford Taurus with 52,000 miles. Rear coil spring has snapped. Just noticed on the annual state inspection. Mechanic said I was lucky that it didn't puncture the tire while I was driving. This should be covered under warranty. The front coil springs are covered by a recall. The rear coil springs should also be covered by a recall. The mechanic said the total cost will be about $900. It is getting repaired today because it failed NY state inspection. Mechanic said he sees a lot of these rear spring failures. Please consider having Ford recall the rear springs.

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus sedan. I replaced the front struts as part of a recall earlier this year. The spring on the front strut broke. A few months after I replaced the front struts, I noticed a noise emanating from the rear of the car. When I got out of the car to see what was wrong, I noticed that the rear of the car was riding much lower than before. I discovered that the spring on the driver-side rear strut had broken, as well. The broken spring had come halfway off of the strut, and the sharp, broken end of the spring was dangerously close to my tire. I still have the strut with the broken spring. I went online to see if other Taurus owners were having this same difficulty and found many posts on message boards outlining the same problem. I have now replaced the rear struts. Because the rear struts are almost identical to the front struts, and because they are subject to the same failure, I feel that Ford should recall the rear struts.

I own a 2001 Ford Taurus which I purchased brand new. It has less than 70, 000 miles and the rear springs completely rotted out. The service station advised me that I shouldn't even drive the car home because the spring could puncture the tire. It cost $850 to replace the springs and the struts. Ford recalled the front but not the back. This is a safety issue and Ford should recall the back as well as the front springs.

The events leading up to the failure were not fatal and there wasn't a crash. I was driving and began to hear a rubbing noise in the back tire of my car. When I took the wheel off to inspect the damage the rear coil spring had broke and was rubbing a groove into my tire. I then had to replace both rear springs and both rear tires. I recently took my car into have the rear brakes replaced and was told the springs were once again broken and had to be replaced. I'm have now paid close to $1000 on faulty spring and repair.

2001 Ford Taurus. March 09, 68,000 miles drivers front coil spring breaks and cuts tire down. July 09, 78,000 miles mechanic finds both rear coil springs similarly broken. I had to replace all 4 springs, struts and 1 tire. Luckily, the car was not being driven when springs broke on front end. Dont know when the rears broke, but sometime in the last 10K miles or the 4 wheel alignment would have discovered the broken rear springs in March 09.

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus ses. I noticed that the rear end of my car was sitting very low and took it to the mechanic to find out what the problem was. Apparently, the rear coil springs are broken due, presumably, to corrosion from salt in northern climate. This appears to be a common problem with this year/model of car. My mechanic told me I was lucky I brought it in when I did as the coils were close to puncturing my tires, which would be very dangerous if this had happened while driving. Parts were replaced to fix the problem. There was a recall to have a shield installed for the front coil springs because they had so many problems, but no recall for the rear coil springs.

In March of 2009 I had a front spring blow out on my 2001 Ford Taurus. At that time Ford replaced them under a recall, however Ford refused to pay for a new tire which a set of new had been installed in Feb. 2009 and the towing bill. Now the right rear spring has done the same thing and destroyed another tire. The mechanic at my local Ford tells me the repair is $280 not including another tire and towing. He also stated to me that Ford should have recalled these cars for the rear spring also, because they've had as much trouble as the front. Luckily both instances happened at a low speed. I believe it is up to your Agency to push for a mandatory recall, before someone driving on a highway get seriously injured or killed! or does the last sentence have to happen first!

We have a 2001 Ford Taurus that has a broken coil spring in rear of the car. The fractured piece of the spring is right beside the tire in the rear of the car. In addition to this danger when the spring broke it allowed the back of the car to set so far down that you can not even place 1 finger between the top of the tire and the fender weld now. The car would consistantly rub the tires if we try to drive it. I have called Ford motor on several occasions about this problem and they told me that they had not had any other complaints about rear spring breakage so there was nothing they could do for me. Now however after reading this website I see that I am in a class of owners with the same problems - I do live in Ohio which after reading more on your site I realize that we are in the area that this problem seems to be happening to alot. After speaking to a local repair shop about my problems I was shocked to find out that rear coil spring breakage on these Taurus's is one of the most seen problems in his shop. Please continue your investigation - if it makes Ford fix these problems and 1 life is saved - it would be worth all of the complaining and nagging we have had to do to get them to step up and repair their defective parts.
