Both rear coil springs fractured at the same time, car has 51,000 miles on it. There was a recall on the front springs but not the rear, and now they have broken, seemed very strange, and Ford will not stand behind their product, repair cost over $500.

- the contact called regarding a 2001 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that he noticed part of the rear coil spring lying on the garage floor. The driver had already left with the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer the next day, and the dealer diagnosed the vehicle as needing the rear coil springs replaced. The contact stated the front coil springs were repaired under a recall and he feels as though the rear coil springs should be as well. Updated 03/02/07.

- the contact's vehicle was in a crash due to the strut failure. The contact said that she was driving 40 mph under dry conditions when the failure accurred. The contact's vehicle spun and then hit a tree. She stated that she had a mechanic look at the vehicle. And mechanictold her that the coil spring was the cause of the failure. She also stated that she had the crashed car in driveway. Update (June 17, 2008): Ms. Edward said that she was driving around a curve when she suddenly lost control of her 2001 Ford Taurus and struck a tree. The mechanical told her that it was a rear (not front) suspension spring had failed. The crashed vehicle was towed back to her house and sat there since (not repaired).

The rear springs of my Ford Taurus have fractured without any accident or collision. The cost of repair was upwards of $300. In addition to that the rear tires have undergone excessive wear due to broken springs. Currently the recall is only applicable to front springs, but I strongly recommend that it should be extended to rear springs also.

2001 Ford Taurus 55,000 miles excessive repair cost - vehicle taken if for front end shake when speed at 60 mph. Front end alignment done to take care of this. Understandable and I am fine with this. At the same time the dealer discovered rr coil spring was broken. They replaced both rear coil springs for an additional cost of $376.87. I spoke with a friend of mine and they had to have rear coil springs replaced on their Taurus as well with 65000 miles. Something is not right.

My car is only 5 years old and both rear struts failed. Also the right rear spring broke and punctured the tire. Why are the front springs be on recall and the rear springs are not? had to replace both rear spring & struts. $521, and tire $124.) I have been told by many if this happen on the hwy, I could have flip my car cause a major accident! now car does not want to start. I took it to four Ford dealership, they all said the same thing. First they would have to run diagnostic test, then depending on the results of the test and a tech to drive the car. Maybe they can fix it. And to top everything all the Ford dealerships sent everybody in the shop home, because they did not have anything too do ?

Car was not handling well and there was a scraping noise coming from somewhere in the rear. Car was taken to dealer to determine problem. Dealer replaced broken right rear coil spring, seats & brackets, and a bent rear sway bar link (approximately $230 charged for the repair). About 2 weeks later (6-16-2006), the car was taken in again since it was still not handling well. The right rear strut and mount were replaced (approximately $264 charged for this repair). This problem seemed related to the repair performed on 6-1-2006. The possibility of a recall for this problem was investigated since the front coil spring recall had been done last December and it was found that the fractured rear coil spring had happened many time before although no recall had yet been made.

2001 Ford Taurus. Failure of left rear coil spring. The inside sidewall of the left rear tire was cut by the broken end of the spring causing a blowout. No injuries. Ford has issued safety recalls for the exact same issue with the front coil springs. Why do they not cover the rear??

Driving to work and heard a load rubbing sound in the right rear spring/tire. What alerted me to get this taken care of was the burning smell of rubber and the loud rubbing noise. I contacted the dealership that I purchased my vehicle from because I purchased an extended warranty. Brought it in and was informed that the rear right side spring was busted and it gouged my tire. If I would have drove just a bit more, it could have blown.

Wife heard rubbing noise from rear of vehicle, I pulled of tire to look at brakes when I found rubber debris from tire. After looking further I found that the right rear coil spring on strut broken and end of broken spring protruding out, hitting tire. I then removed left rear tire to inspect spring and found it also broke. Both rear coil springs were broke about 1 coil up on the spring. The car was towed to a tire service store and a after market spring (moog brand) installed which had a life time warranty. I did retain defective parts.

Left rear spring broke on my 2001 Ford Taurus. Took it to my dealer to fix it and I had to pay for it. It almost blew out my tire, which would have caused me to crash. I hear that Ford may be having a recall on the rear springs on the 2000 and 2001 Taurus. However, I do not feel I should have paid, to have the spring fixed and I called Ford about it, they told me that I had to pay for it. I believe that there is a defect in the springs. I'm E-mailing this in hopes that Ford will recall the springs so I can get my money back on the repair. Unless they make it right with me, I will not buy another Ford product!!
