Taurus SES

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

bought this car used in january of 2012. had been told they were a reliable car. did not expect to need to replace the transmission the first year I bought it. Dealership will not do anything. still owe two years on the car. Am very dissapointed and will never buy a ford again. getting rid of it as soon as it is paid for.

Apparently its very common for the Ford Taurus to have transmission failure or "slipping". I am so DONE with Ford. I am being sure to tell everyone about how ridiculous FORD really is. I am making sure NO ONE ever buys a ford again. They need to RECALL every car they've ever put on the road and call it quits. Long story short. My transmission is slipping.. not surprised by now! Before i spend $2,000 replacing it, i'm choosing to replace the filter and fluid. Its worth a shot! My car is having trouble shifting gears. Mainly between park and drive, then again from 1st to 2nd. Its HORRIBLE, don't pull out of a parking lot thinking your going to make it without getting hit! Ha, It almost stalls.

Taurus LS 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 178,000 miles

This is the second time this problem has developed. First time it was somewhat cured by changing the fluid and filter. A year later at 35 mph it shifts from second to going nowhere until the gas pedal is released. The sudden jerk puts my head in the back seat! I was warned about Ford transmissions but resisted and bought the crappy car anyway. As a single woman I had no idea about the difference between a 16 and 24 valve engine and the cost in repairing the transmission...there is a huge difference in price! All cars have their problems but trust me I AM OUT OF THE FORD BUSINESS FOREVER! Should have listened to my brother in law, every Ford he owned had transmission, and motor problems. Even if he found one on the road dead... he would shoot it.

Taurus SES 3.0L (U)

  • Automatic transmission
  • 173,862 miles

Just bought this thing about a month ago. Girlfriend was driving back from Joplin,MO. Drove just fine. Got up this morning and went to drive it to work and the "Trans Axle" (transmission) light was flashing. She shut it off and drove our DODGE MINIVAN WITH 225,000 MILES ON IT to work. I came home and checked all the fluids and everything was full. I let it run and warm up. Backed out of the drive just fine, put it in drive and nothing happened. Tapped the gas and it slammed into gear. Pulled it back into the driveway. Tested it by putting my foot on the brake and gave it some gas, while it was in gear. The car started shaking like it was wheel hopping in the front end. I have owned 3 Fords in my entire life, this being the 3rd. Now i remember why i sold the other junk P.O.S'S!!!!!!!! The guy we bought it from just did a filter and fluid change on the transmission AND replaced the torque converter. I'll stick with my Z71 and Dodge Caravan from here out. Next time im talking her into the Chevy Impala!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRR

Taurus SE 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 116,000 miles

The transmission in this vehicle is the worst shifting vehicle I've ever owned in my entire life. It can't make up its mind what ot do at 35 miles an hour or slower when going through a school zone. I bought this car from Beau Townsend Ford used and they had told me they went over the transmission and checked the brakes. The rear brakes went into the drums in less than 10,000 miles after I purchased the vehicle. The thing leaks fluid and has never worked right. Also was told that fluid was changed , but if I was betting I would say that it wasn't done.

Taurus SE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 43,000 miles

I have owned this Taurus for 1 year I bought it at 25,000 miles from an 80 yr old man that took good care of his car. This problem with the transmission slipping I have taken to a mechanic and a transmission specialist and they cannot figure out where the problem lies. The slipping is occurs occasionally. This car is a piece of junk I will never purchase another ford.
